I watched Hawaii 5-0 from 1968 – 1980 and never missed an episode. I loved that show. I
have tried to watch the new version, but get about 10 or 15 minutes into the show and turn
the channel. That show is not good at all. For 1) Alex doesn’t come close to filling Jack Lord’s shoes. The only McGarrett (Jack) was a take charge, take no crap boss. The new McGarrett (Alex) seams to be lost and let’s the new Danny talk down to him. The show sucks. 2) Kono was a man, not a women. The only thing I like about this show is that they
kept the original music. Like so many other TV shows Hollywood tries to remake, to me they have failed again. Keep the memories of all the past shows that were great and there
were many alive by not trying to remake them. It doesn’t work!

I love the new Five O but enough of Danno’s caustic, snide, nasty, unnecessary remarks and tyraids. Good grief.. the original Dano would never have spoken to McGarret that way.. they were a team.. This Danno is a discrace to the character.. I now Tivo the show, then transfer it to a tape, deleting most of Danno’s B S.. Alex is the perfect McGarett and Kono and Chin are professional.. Danno is an obnoxious jerk.. Jealous because Steve is smart and in charge of Five O..

I will never understand why Moonlight was canceled… Neither do I understand why Three Rivers was canceled.. Both were pretty good shows, and he was great in both…. Meanwhile, there are some pretty crappy shows on the air (my opinion) which have lasted for years!!
Oh!! One more thing… I wish I looked like Alex O’Loughlin!!! I’m straight, but even a “real” man can see the guys good looks (yes, I’m very sure of my masculinity, that’s way I can make that statement!!)..

Ahhh Susie: here we go again…I KNOW Alex didNOT quit Moonlight…Lord why would he and left the country (with I think his then girlfriend Holly) and brooded for a while. Yeah he’s pretty well into what CBS wants him to do now but I firmlydoubt he would talked into something he didn’t want to do CBS or not. Anyway, we could go on and on…bottom line is we love him and wish him the best always…you and I should get an award for being his BIGGEST FANS!!! Right? Love, Suzanne

Ah Suzanne, you leave so many issues open to address but then I think, why bother? And I am chilled, thank you very much. One thing I do have to correct: Alex O’L did not choose to leave Moonlight, he was fired. He does not do shows he wants, he does shows CBS wants him to. He’s under contract with them. I’ll try this one more time: This thread was not about how great Alex O’L is, it was about the demise of a show he was in called Moonlight. We, who liked that show, were discussing various issues surrounding its cancellation. I think I and others here are pretty clear in our posts. Since I do not like when other internet posters draw conclusions about my mood or pshychological status, I won’t draw a conclusion about yours. Have a great day!

Suzanne, I hope you are being sarcastic about the hype and promotion meaning Hawaii Five-O will be a blockbuster. LOL I agree about the JLo movie bomb though.

Just to be clear, what we are writing about here is not “whining.” If viewers don’t let networks know what we like(d), they will decide for us. I just don’t agree with being a passive viewer.

My understanding was that Alex had a three-show guarantee in his CBS contract. They cancelled Moonlight for no reason, Three Rivers was a bust, and my personal predication is that Hawaii Five-O, their third try, will fail. I guess I’m not so much an Alex fan as a Mick St. John/Moonlight fan. The topic of the thread to which I posted was about the demise of Moonlight.

Then I guess I am not a true fan, LMAO. I don’t follow actors but shows, and Three Rivers proved most people agree with me. I loved Moonlight. CBS won’t bring it back, well, whatever . I will not watch anything that CBS throw at me just because ALex O’ is in there, specially a silly remake, duh ! How interesting is that . I don’t see that much buzz about Hawaii 50, sorry. . My friend went to the Comic con and told me The Event got the most hype . You and others “true Alex fan” can watch the remake, same as you watched Three Rivers and stop “whining” because most of Moonlight fans are not interested in Hawaii 50 . You watch the remake, not problem with me , I will watching NBC Chase that looks terrific.

Much better than Alex as a cheese farmer in Back Up Plan (thanks JLo though she isn’t my favorite) There is excitement, good actors, terrific effects and all around “bring it into the 21st century.” Alex has said he doesn;t like to be caste as ONE character but have a large acting range, Moon Light was terrifice and a a good movie some day. Why put Alex O’L in a remake of an old show instead of making a new modern show called Moonlight, which, in its way is also a cop show? I am not interested in any remakes of old shows… that just PROVES Hollywood has no creativity, or they just shut out those who do. The creators, writers and actors on Moonlight did something new, creative and modern, not an old retread. Why not try Alex in a new Mannix or Gilligan’s Island or Dobie Gillis? I know the S must stand for STUPID in CBS.

It all depends on the writing, the talent and the timeslot. Don’t doom a potentially good or even great show by putting it into a loser position from the start. Some of the most successful shows didn’t develop a following until the end of the first year or even the second. Characters have to develop and viewers need time to connect with them and the story line. That isn’t going to happen if a show isn’t aired consistently or in its entirety. After reading the comments the execs should “get it” and so should the advertisers. I thought that Three Rivers was a potentially good vehicle for the actors and the organ donor programs around the country. Could have been a winning combination. If they decide to do a remake of Hawaii Five-O I hope they will be fully committed to the project. Alex O’Loughlin and the other actors deserve it.

There was something very strong about the Moonlight series and the way it was written. Very much like picking up a good book and not being able to put it down. It had a great storyline, filled with romance, suspense, drama, action and comedy. I love how it led you into getting to know the characters. I felt it was a shame that it cancelled and that it should have gone into a 2nd season. I hope it comes back out of popular demand. Any network would benefit from airing the show. There are shows out there that have nowhere the impact and have survived several seasons. I am 53 yrs old and loved watching Moonlight. Alex O’Loughlin was perfect for the part and the chemistry with co-star Sophia Myles was incredible, including the chemistry with all the other actors. Please bring Moonlight back and continue writing more series.

I wouldn’t watch Hawaii Five- O . I am sick of repeats of the same old thing. I’ll watch a cop show if it has romance and something unique about it ;like with the paranormal. I like Alex O’ Loughlin’s actingbut sick of all the cop shows on TV.The only ones I have watched is Medium and Moonlighting. Give Alex some special powers and romance, I will tune in. Oh ,and have him grow his hair out like in Moonlight again.

I, too, would rather see Alex as the son of Steve McGarret. That way he can establish his own character and not have to live up to an already established personna. I will watch anything he is in. But CBS needs to really support him and this show for more than one season. They owe him that much.

I think Alex is a very talented actor and can play a variety of roles. I don’t think remakes do well historically and will be surprised if this one does. However, they are selling him as if he’s a piece of meat. But even that is not the problem. What CBS did this time around to the Moonlight fans was unprofessional, vindictive and unconscionable. That being the case as a Moonlight fan I will not support any CBS products including movies. If Hawaii Five-O makes it to season 3 and I’m interested I will watch the DVD’s. Luckily I get them for free from my niece who is a costume designer.

Alex in Hawaii Five-O, Wow, this is going to be fantastic. I can’t say or see enough of Alex. He has the ability to take on any leading man role. On top of that, he is so gorgeous, charming, witty, lovable and a great humanitarian. I just hope they give him a good time slot and don’t keep pushing this series back for sports. I think Alex acting the role of Steve McGarrett in this series may very well be as wonderful as Moonlight was. I can hardly wait to see Alex again in Hawaii-Five-O.

I think it might be time for a relaunch of 5-0 but although I like him, they would have to do a drastic redo on the main character. McGarret was supposed to be all cool and swagger, hip and tough. I think Alex is too dour and suave to be that character, unless he can really stretch that way as an actor and I haven’t seen it yet.

I would much rather see Alex as Chris McGarrett and not a remake of Steve McGarrett. So many of us watched Hawaii 5-o for all those years and to see Alex as Steve would be just a bit much to reconcile. Ok, bring it back but bring it back updated. Seeing Alex as Steve would be too much like the “Dallas” dream sequence debacle (Steve is back but has become young again). Way too much to ask us to stomach. I think Alex makes a great cop as witnessed in Moonlight and The Shield. I just hope that CBS knows what they’re doing so Alex won’t have another show in the dump. Make sure this will go. I know that Alex is so a good actor, that he can make a magnificent role of detective, already we have seen him as Mick in Moonlight and as Kevin in The Shield, with excellent results, but I think we should support any new project quality in which able to demonstrate, that besides be a charming, sexy and very handsome man, Alex is an actor of enormous talent yet to be discovered, just needs a little luck, a quality project and support, but of true, of CBS, something that until now he has not had.
I do not know if Hawaii Five-O is the best possible project to finally launch his career to the success, but at least has a good team of writers and an executive producer on prestige, I think we should wait to see what happens in reality and have trust in his wisdom to choose it best, Alex will be who decide in any case.
I am ready to support him in whatever he decides to do and I wish you all the luck in the world, for that this time it be all a great success.

I believe that Alex O’Loughlin is a very versatile, gifted and intelligent actor who is absolutely perfect to portray the detective role of Chris McGarrett on Hawaii Five O. I wish Alex best wishes and good luck on this soon to be a successful crime drama series on CBS. Three times is the charm for Alex O’Loughlin this time. It speaks volume that CBS still supports and wants Alex back on television with another leading role because he is an extremely talented and versatile young actor.

Just so you know the Chris McGarrett story line I think was scratched in favor of Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci’s idea with the lead being Steve McGarrett,I still think this show will be amazing with these writers on board,And Alex will be perfect for this role IMO,he showed he does this kind of character very well in “The Shield” and “Moonlight”.Alex is a wonderful actor he is very versatile and makes every character he plays come alive.I am looking forward to this show and know that this will be the series that will last many years to come.

Ok, really? I know they like Alex o’loughlin and wanna keep him around, but why do they keep giving him projects that are not very good. I loved moonlight and they would probably get a better following now on the wings of the twilight movies. But I watched three rivers and I knew it was gonna tank. It just lacked an urgency or any really good drama. Plus the TV is really saturated with medical drama’s right now for some reason. I can only watch so many. I can say if they do put him on this Hawaii 5-O thing, i’d attempt to watch but I don’t see it going very far. Especially with all the CSI versions out there already too. That’s all that’s on TV – medical and cop dramas. Come up with some new ideas networks!

Hawaii Five O is a spin-off, not a remake. The new version will be updated with current story lines and filmed in Hawaii. The leading character will be Chris McGarrett, the son of the original show’s Steve McGarrett. I am extremely happy and excited about this new show, an updated crime drama.

I think Alex is a rising star, but he will crash and burn again in this remake. The odds of remakes succeeding are 0%. Knight Rider, Bionic Woman, Terminator, Melrose Place (isn’t doing well and may already be canceled) just to name a few. Apparently, they have already tried twice to revive this old show and failed. Why does CBS keep airing different versions of NCIS and CSI and now trying to revive an old show from the ’60s? They had something fresh and original in Moonlight. Vampire shows are in right now and this show still has a loyal following. From what I have been reading at different sites, no one is for this project. They are expecting Alex to crash and burn a third time. Sorry.

CBS refuses to bring Moonlight back because they won’t admit they made a mistake. With all the vampire popularity now it could bring in higher numbers than the previous run.

Three Rivers had the football overtimes working against it. They made a mistake switching the 2nd episode to air first ,it was not very good and the continuity was off because of airing out of sequence. The show got better especially the ALS story. It could have made it but CBS lost faith.

I hope Alex gets to do Hawaii 50, he deserves better than the treatment he has gotten so far.

I will watch any show that puts Alex O’Loughlin back on my TV screen. From everything I’ve read the Hawaii Five O remake has a lot going for it with such wonderful writers heading this series. My hope is they are able to bring to it the same fun and energy they injected into the new Star Trek movie. By the way, the remake’s main character will be Chris Garrett, the son of Steve McGarrett, so there will be no need for any actor to step into Jack Lord’s shoes.
