One of the few CW cancellations this season was freshman drama Hellcats. While the series didn’t have the worst season average ratings, the numbers were essentially in a slow over the entire season. Towards the end, it hit a series low with a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demo, a 0.7 rating in the young female demo, and fewer than a million viewers. Even by CW standards, those numbers are just too low to get the TV series renewed.
The CW officially acknowledged that Hellcats was cancelled last week. Unfortunately, the finale was shot before the cast and crew knew the TV show’s fate and it ended with storylines unresolved. Prior to the cancellation, Zap2It spoke with Hellcats creator Kevin Murphy who gave some insight into what season two might have held.
The Marti/Dan/Savannah storyline was put on hold in season one but there were plans to revisit it in season two.
Since he was accepted at Lancer University, townie Dan Patch would have had some storylines of his own. Murphy noted, “He’s always either been the boyfriend of Savannah or the friend of Marti. I really wanted to be able to give him more points of access to Alice and Lewis and Vanessa and everyone else.” Part of that would have included Dan becoming a cheerleader. This was almost shown in the finale with Matt Barr was actually in the uniform but it was never shot.
Despite the blow-up at the end of the season, AJ would have continued to be an important part of the series. There were plans for Ciara return as well and the pop star was enthusiastic about the possibility.
Following in the footsteps of the special Zombie episode, Murphy had plans for more theme episodes. Possibilities included a Western-themed episode, aliens and post-apocalypse.
Executive producer Tom Welling wanted to direct some episodes but couldn’t because of his Smallville commitments. Had the show returned, Welling was planning to direct some of the season two installments.
What do you think? What do you think of these season two plans? What else would you liked to have seen happen?

The CW made a huge mistake by cancelling Hellcats. There are so many people who are upset with the cancellation including myself. I just recently got into the series and I’m ticked off because I can’t finish it. Nowhere online allows me to watch the show and now I’m dealing with holes in the plot. Bring Hellcats back and CW might have a chance to go uphill again.
I think they should continue with the second season of helcats.Honestly my friends and I couldn’t stop talking about season one.We loved all the drama.cheerleading and dances really it was all to enticing.I’m from South Africa and I know many others must have loved the show as much as myself and my friends did.I hope such amazing writing and directing doesn’t go to waste please play season two.May I add I’m most probably ur biggest fan please fight for this amazing show.
This really sucks I was really starting to get pulled in… My husband too but I believe it was a different reason…lol but they should give hellcats another chance OTH Didn’t do that well in the beginning either and look how far they went….
they should still make a season 2 the ideas sound awsome and it left off with there being able to make a season 2 and alot of people watch it otherwise there wouldnt be so many people upset with the people that cancled season 2. they should try to think of other people instead of just money or themselves. our opinions should matter cause that just shows how many people think its a terriable mistake to cancle it and it also shows how many people love the show and for the people that don’t then they dont have very good taste do they.
The mistakes the writters of Hellcats made was when Marti and Dan had sex in the car Marti told Savanna and in front of everyone–Who does that?? Really? Dan and Marti should have been together– Not Dan a Savanna— They needed to fix that part. Savanna and Dan were a boring pair– It could have been saved– They just needed a bit more creativity–
Thank god they cancelled that awful show. I’m so happy they decided to continue Nikita though. That show is actually good. While everything about Hellcats was bad. The story line, the people. IT WAS AWFUL.
I think abcFamily should pick up the show Hellcats. That station so far has interesting shows, I’m sure the rating could go up if Hellcats were on their!
I really hate when I get interested in a series, they cancel it. Hell Cats was a good series. Clean and wholesome. No one was was being brutally murdered, no autopsy scenes, no naked people jumping each other’s bones…SO, it was cancelled! So what if the numbers were not high enough among the 18-49 demographic. Obviously no one cares what us older folks like. According to these genuis’, no one over 49 watches TV.
Bring Hellcats back!!! Like everyone else Im so sick of the stupid vampire movies. Hellcats was realistic and something people could relate to. What an awful and poor choice the CW has made. If they keep making choices like this they are going to loose a lot of viewers and the channel will eventually go downhill. Hopefully the creators of the show will find a new station to pick them back up. Im just so sad to see the show is canceled. Please reconsider what you are putting all the fans of an amazing show through. Now I have less of a reason to watch tv.
Okay i love hellcats and hate that it’s cancelled and i want it back. But vampire movies and shows are great aswell.
to be honest cw has made terrible decisions lately..! what were they thinking when they cancelled “hellcats” it was a really interesting and fun story.!… it obvious the series in cw channel are going down.. the series they are lately presenting are awful.. $”#& my dad says, vampire diaries, molly and who knows.. they are cheap and its obvious they dont have a story to tell.. there’s for sure that one day the cw is gonna only present old series like friends, 2 and a half men, gilmore, new christine, because the new ones are cheap and boring… but whatever. By the way PLEASE.. cw should have given a 2nd chance to hellcats, but its obvious they are only thinking about the money.. to bad our opinion don’t matter..!
