Hostages: Has the CBS Show Been Cancelled?

Hostages on CBS canceled?CBS has just released details about the two hour finale of Hostages but refer to it as just a “season finale” instead of a “series finale.” Does that mean that the “limited series” is coming back for a second season?

On Hostages, Toni Collette plays Ellen Sanders, a doctor who’s set to perform a fairly rudimentary surgical procedure on the President (James Naughton). When a group of men (led by Dylan McDermott) invade her home and take her family hostage, she’s faced with a lose-lose decision. If she doesn’t cause the President to die on the operating table, the terrorists will kill her family. The cast also includes Rhys Coiro, Billy Brown, Sandrine Holt, Tate Donovan, Quinn Shephard, and Mateus Ward.

The Monday night drama got off to a mediocre start in the ratings, drawing a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.41 million total viewers. In week two, the numbers fell more than 16% and they’ve essentially kept falling ever since. Last month, it hit a new low with a 1.0 demo rating and 4.5 million viewers.

The network touted Hostages as a “limited series” from the start but, had the show been a success, they surely would have found a way to bring it back in some form.

How? Well, we don’t need to worry about that. Unfortunately for fans of the show, there’s virtually no chance that CBS will bring Hostages back next year. The ratings are just too low.

Hopefully, the producers knew the show won’t be back and have prepared a very satisfying ending.

[Possible Spoiler:] The two-hour season (series) finale airs on January 6th at 9pm. The episodes are titled “Suspicious Minds” and “Endgame” and are described this way: “After Duncan discovers Sandrine’s betrayal, he decides to use her to save Nina and Sawyer. Also, just before Ellen is to operate on the President, the First Lady confronts her and forces Ellen to tell the truth about the assassination plot.”

What do you think? Do you like Hostages? Do you think it should be brought back somehow? Why do you think that more people didn’t tune in?

I think the over kill with it being a new fall program played a role it becoming a turn off. also the story line was just to involved. it might have made a good movie but for a weekly tv show I think not

I love this show! I don’t know why it hasn’t been more popular maybe because it’s opposite the Blacklist. I wonder if your survey count those who see it on Demand. When two good shows are on the same time, you’ll watch one as it airs and watch the other on Demand not wanting to miss either. Can’t wait to see the two hour finale and I HOPE it will come back.

Love, love this show. Keeps you always guessing, and love the surprise elements in the show. Too bad more people didn’t give it a chance. Great suspense and an awesome ongoing series. Actors have chemistry and seem to get totally into their roles. Hate that we’ve been kept hanging. Unfortunate that there is so much to choose from; it complicates the ratings. So sorry to see it end.
I looked forward to it every Mon. night. A great change from all the NCIS shows.
Wish CBS wouldn’t tout these shows, such as “Under the Dome,” and of course, “Hostages,” and then just rip them out of the lineup with no ending.
CBS should keep the actors together, continue the show with a different angle or storyline. Maybe have them all work for the government.
These characters work well together.

I think that hostages is a fantastic tv show. It is exciting, enticing and is very suspenseful. It depicts how life truly is or can be when your life is on the line. I have been looking for the Monday 10pm show for the last 2 weeks and it has not been there. I thought it was just a break because of the holidays. I still believe that no matter that the ratings are down, there are still followers of the show and have the right to see the show to the end. I would faithfully be home to watch it but if for some reason, I was not home at exactly 10pm, it was taping and as soon as I got home, I watched it. I do not know if the reason for the problem was due to the Blacklist as this was not a show that I got interested in. Please do not take this show off the air, I think that Dylan McDermott is an outstanding actor and he is also very handsome to look at.

The show has very intriguing features that kept viewers watching. I am actually surprised to learn it has low ratings probably the time it is aired could be a factor. Also poorly promoted but the actors are special and straight shooters. They make their role and intents real which make you sometimes wonder what is coming next. I hope it stays better than most shows that’s on going to say the least.

I love Hostages, however, to keep the show running it can’t continue to be based around killing the president. The show is intense and suspenseful. I hope they come back for another season.

I have really liked this show since its inception. Do hope it keeps on going. Shame for another good TV program to be cancelled and probably replace it with one of those dumb reality shows (UGH!)

Excellent show that really depicts life. When faiths and a concerted effort takes place – nothing will defeat you! Looking forward to the finale. This series shows how “raw” instinct, ingenuity, intelligence mixed with pressure will produce that “diamond” of a result/conclusion/outcome and closure you’re looking for.
