They should totally end it after 8 seasons. I hate seeing my favourite shows going downhill, and there’s only so much they can do with these characters. I don’t want to see it becoming a lame broad version of itself, just because they’ve been offered a lot of money. Have some artistic credibility, guys.

Whatever happens, do NOT continue without any of the core cast. If Segel wants to leave after the eight season, just make sure the story is complete after the first season. If the whole cast agrees for a 9th season, make a 9th season if you have the material. But don’t let it continue without the core cast. Other sitcoms showed that really ***** up it’s legacy.

I agree with ellie up there. If something is awesome, don’t squeeze all the awesome out until there’s only a few drops left; and then you take those drops mix it with other stuff and try to continue to pass it on as the original awesome stuff. the same thing happened to That 70′s Show when they hit Season 8 and they replaced Eric Foreman with that pretty boy, who wasn’t funny at all by the way, and then they got rid of Michael Kelso. That show could’ve ended on the 7th season but HAD to continue which kinda messed it up. I don’t want the same thing to happen to HIMYM

It needs to end after 8 seasons. I love HIMYM but look at scrubs as the example it was contracted to last only 8 seasons and they continued to 9 and Ofcoarse the 9th season was the worse season ever. Learn from others mistakes and end it when planned.

I have to admit, Jason Segel is my all-time favorite actor, and seeing HMYM is my absolute favorite show ever. I feel like I am part of the group, and I can relate to them. It will be sad when the show ends, but I think Jason Segel will be on to bigger and better things to further his acting career, and I can’t wait to see it.

i think that how i met your mother is an amazing show! but as much as i love it i think that letting it end at the end of the eight season is a good idea because its been going for so long and everyone just wants to know who the mother is but i also think it should tell u what happend with everyone else no matther what i know itll end as awesomely as it started and it will be LEGENDARY. oh and by the way i LOVE marshal erikson he is by far my all time favorite charachter

Yeah himym has been one hell of a show, probably the best of all times but everything that has a beginning has an end(as barney says- new is always better). Yes we are going to miss every single moment of himym – because its not just a tv show – its a part of who we are or who we want to be or how we spent our twenties and thirties. Maybe this is the perfect life that everybody wants to feel – friends, love, careers, experiences that teach you whole new things and much more. Maybe this is why the show was a huge success. Well if they want to end the show after season 8, then let it be. But we will never forget himym. We love you ted, robin, barney, lily and marshall. No matter happens you’ll always be a part of our life

I could totally see the series taking a different turn after season 8. Yes the cast, Segel and maybe the others. Will quit the show and see towards new things… But! With Bob Saget as the FUTURE Ted ! What if they made a show about that.. Future Ted acted by Saget! Could be EPIC, to say the least… But in all fairness, it would be wierd and seem pointless to continue on. Although i love the show, best ive seen in a LOOONG time! Its probably about time to end it.

tell us and show us who the mother is but don’t tie it up just yet put her in the story talk about ted and her life together make some twists act like they break up they see different people and then love will bring them back together also what happens to some of the other people tie up some of the loose everyone loves a good twist.

I think season 8 is a great place to end, after all these episodes of how i met your mother and after probaly 48 more i think its time to end and see the end of the story. To bring a new cast to the series would only pull away the viewers and no one will ever find out what has happend to ted and his story. Season 8 is the place to end it, its a great show and definatly my favourit, but its always good when something ends

I have to say that there are not many shows that I follow in such a way that I do this. The characters feel so real to me as if I was to live out their lives. Every twist and turn and funny moment are legen…….wait for it……dary! I only found this show a short while ago but I can say its one of my favorites. Without a doubt I can’t say season 7 or season 8, it doesn’t matter when it ends to me. I have enjoyed the stories and the experiences that I had with this show. Somehow I look upon this as if it should be my life (two kids at a young age looking at a group of friends living out their lives in a big city) should have been. Not many people in this generation would know what the show “friends” is but its like a leap forward to my generation. To connect with such characters in an emotional level is great. To go through the happiness and the hardships is just what I look for in a show. No matter which way this show comes to an end I will be happy to know I had a chance the experience great writing and great actin on everyone’s part. Long live “himym”!

i totally love that show, but i think everything has to end at some point. we don’t want it to get all lame, do we? there are always new shows coming up, and i’m sure, himym won’t be the last good one. (even though i really fell in love with all of the characters, but this is what dvd’s are for )

The writgher of this sitcom, is most careful and consistent when wrighting the story.

Unlike the show that is so close to this one “Friends”, there have not been any counterdicting actions troughout any of the seasons.

It is only natural that he tought about the time when the whole thing will end, from the very begining.

Unlike Friends, where if I remember right, it was Monica wich says that Chanler can’t grow a beard, but when they have highschool memories, he clearly has one.

The consistency of this show, is what cept hooked.

Also. I don’t think the last episodes have been that down.
After all, the worst episode of “How I met your mother” has to be the third one out of the very first season. (I allmost quit watching after that episode)
It is only the death of Mashals dad, wich has grimed out the atmosphere lately.

Make no misstake, I am certen that this will wear off.

Soon enough we will be getting new inside jokes, such as the dopplegangers and the 5 slaps.

i dont think he will because in season 1 the thanksgiving episode ted meets a stripper and she says her real name is victoria and then says “that is how i met your mother im just kidding” which would mean that the mothers name has to be victoria because his kids believed it at first

This is a great show but it definately seems to be in downturn compared to previous seasons. I agree with a lot of other comments…. they should show the story of Ted and the mother and develop the storyline. Could be a great ending to a great show!

I say sure, end it at 8, the show has been amazing. See Friends was a lot like Family Guy is and even the Simpsons. The amount of time you have been on doesn’t mean crap. I could watch all my favorite episodes of friends in no time, out of 10 seasons I probably have around 40-50 episodes I love. Same goes with Family Guy. Some episodes are just dull. I seriously can start from season 1 again and watch and laugh and enjoy every episode of how i met your mother. i hate to break it to people but sex sells, and it has more sex references in one season than all 10 seasons of Friends combined. I believe without the Barney character I wouldn;t enjoy it as much. But Segel is awesome as well, they all are, I love the series and I am ok with 8 seasons because I know eventually they are going to run out of ideas, kinda like he was saying with the bad divorce angle, just end it while it’s good. Plus it gives us 2 more seasons so im not complaining.

Wow, I really don’t see how this show will continue to thrive with a different cast; even if only one person is replaced, like Jason Segel, the whole show will seem a little disorientated and the characters won’t seem so real.
I also know that many of our main characters were chosen specifically to play these parts and if they end their contract at the same time as Segel, I don’t think the writers of this show would be too happy to replace them with just anybody.
But I would be very interested to see who some people think could replace our current characters (For instance, it’s soo hard to find a really hot, down-to-earth Real Canadian like Cobie Smulders~~)

I think it shouldn’t keep going with other actors but shouldn’t stop after 8 seasons. Yes it can’t go on forever but they are already on the 6th season so there’s only 2 more left. It will be sad to see it end but it has to. Sure they can continue With different actors but it won’t be the same without the original cast. Also I really want to find out how the mother is like most people but it’s better for us to not find out so we can enjoy the rest of the show while it lasts.

SPOILER ALERT – I’m almost positive that it was Season 1 Episode 1 where Ted stated to the kids, “and that’s how I met your Aunt Robin.” Assuming of course that Ted is the father of the kids, I would say that Robin is not their mother. He also mentions the yellow umbrella as their mother’s yellow umbrella, and that their mother was that one girl’s roommate, which definitely excludes Robin. I know Robin would be perfect for the part, but anyone who truly believes she’s the mother didn’t watch the first episode, or isn’t even up to date on the current episode, hence the SPOILER ALERT.

I love this show but I think that it is starting to not be as amazing. as much as i hate to say it i think its time for the show to end. I think that it still will be good after the 8th season but if Jason and others are leaving it will be hard to still be good. I think he should meet the wife in the 7th season and a relationship/marriage/pregnant in season 8. I cant wait to see who the mother is but i do not want this show to end but if it continuing means it will be bad i rather it end being amazing.

Well, we know this much: The narration of the show takes place in 2030. We’ve seen Ted’s kids and I think it’s fair to say that the eldest one is at least 16; thus Ted has to meet his wife and she has to get pregnant by 2013: the year that series 8 of HIMYM will end. It seems like remarkable planning on the part of the producers that that would be the case. What I think will happen is that Ted will meet ‘The Mother’ at the end of this series (6), they will have a relationship in series 7, get married at some point and the finale will have the announcement of her pregnancy.

Yeah they should decide when to wrap it up to tie up and loose ends, I’d hate to see it get cancelled after waiting for years to find out who the mom is. If the last words are “this is your mother” with no backstory I will kill the writers. They need to wrap it up nicely and give us a backstory.

Look,i love this show probably more than anyone else in the world! Said in a Barney style, but if the show is funny and people are loving it, why not go on until the feeling is, damn, this feels like the end! I realise the fine line between not enough and too long, but this is funny as hell!!! We`ve seen a better sitcom than Friends and dare i say it Scrubs! Well, maybe on a par with Scrubs if not HIMYM being better. These actors are like spoiled brats at times! I love every actor and character but do they not realise who the most important people are? The fans!!!! If it stops being funny it stops being funny, but dont kill it till it gets there!!!!!

I think that the show is good. I just hope that they do reveal who the mother is and don’t give it a Sopanro style ending where he’s staring at the camera at his kids mother and they never show who it is. I still don’t think that they’ve met yet and as soon as they do meet, the ratings will drop and the show will end which is why it might not even last 8 seasons. Besides, with the style of the show it is with the constant flashbacks that have never been filmed before, you’ll know it’s flawed if an actor is missing. Just look at when Lily was gone in the main storyline. She wasn’t anywhere else either. That’s why they have to keep all the main cast and with just one of them gone, the show will end. But, by that point, at least they should tell us who the mother is.

Consitering that this is a show CBS almost canced after Season 2 and Season 3 it’s become a moderate hit because the network didn’t get rid of it. The oft told story is of the 3 key players at the network, two like it and the other doesn’t.

I honestly don’t see it going past 8 seasons becuase I can’t see CBS paying to keep everyone around for an extra season or two.
