I purchased all the eopisodes on playstation Network as I was addicted from the FIRST eposide I accidently ran accross. I had never heard of this show. It was never advertised and Im very dissappointed it wasn’t finished. Im starting a petition.

In response to Don…type nbc/hulu website and then add: /KINGS to the end of that to get the entire series.

I don’t understand why NBC “had had high hopes for Kings” when it was not even advertised well or properly. In addition they switch the time slots. How can you have high hopes when making these TWO CRUCIAL mistakes in promoting a show???? The biblical relation did not hurt the show because its a tale. Almost like any other movie that involves kings, queens, etc.

To NBC
1. Bring it back
2. Market it, advertise it well and better than you did last time. Actually try to sell it.
3. don’t switch the time slots
4. Don’t decide to cancel it by the 4th week/episode.

To those who want to save it.

2. sign all other petitions that you can find in favorite browser.

I too never heard of the show and ran across it by accident channel surfing late one night on cable. Was immediately hooked. Why was it never advertised? I found this blog by searching on line to see if I could find more episodes to watch, evidently not.

I had never heard of this show until I was looking up another show on NBC and saw it. After the 1st episode, I was totally hooked. I am extremely disappointed that the show will not come back for another season. I was so excited to get into a show that really made you think and now, I’ll never know the ending. I attribute the shows downfall to the lack of publicity. If people would’ve known about this show they would’ve watched it. There’s decent acting, an engaging plot and beautiful filming. This show could have been great if NBC knew how to market it.

It is bad that NBC once again fails to do what is right. They talk about they couldnt sell the idea because they didnt try hard enough. I get money on it but if you had sold it right you could have made a killing on it. It was a great show and you killed it before people had actually heard, way to go.

The lack of advertising of the show by NBC was the main reason for the dearth of viewers. I tuned in by accident and loved the show. It’s too bad that NBC cancelled the show. Even by college sophormore daughter and her friends loved the show. If NBC haddone some advertising, Kings would have gathered more support and more viewers! Perhaps, the show will resurrect sometime in the future!

One thing has always rung true pertaining to network television… A show being cancelled isn’t always a measure of how good it was. Classic example, “Firefly.” More recently “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” -great shows, but large ensamble casts dictate large budgets and today, the networks want the immediate gratification of high ratings, or it isn’t worth the investment.

They always seem to forget that it took “60-Minutes” seven seasons before it generated enough revenue in advertising to even turn a profit. If you’re going to the effort to create something you want to be proud of… be proud enough to see it through a couple of seasons before you call it a bust…. or don’t bother making it in the first place.

NBC, NBC, YOU MESSED UP! I’m so disappointed because it was such an excellent show. You left not just me but all of us hangin. I would tell family and friends about the show and would encourage them to watch it. I want so much to see the rest of the series. I’ve seen every episode except the second series. I’m so so disappointed. What an excellent series it was, too bad it was canceled. I don’t believe it was promoted as it should of been. This was indeed a great show that had a lot of spiritual emphasis, oh oh, i wonder if that is why it didn’t last, shame, shame, shame. It was a great program and i am very disappointed.

Had “Kings” remained in the Thursday night slot, I feel certain it would have received the viewership it need. The writing is brilliant, scenery magical, the acting worthy of Shakespeare, and the plot twists enough to keep viewers intrigued. This show was the best entertainment on any network station in ages. What a shame NBC executives couldn’t see the goldmine right in front of them

I can’t believe I missed this show on television!I had never even heard of it. I just watched the 3 disk entire series from Netflix, and I am just ablaze!!! This has to be the most awesome show I believe I’ve ever seen. I thought Lost was great, but this…These writers & actors are the best of the best! It’s really too good for television. The cast is off the chart.Honestly, it’s that great. This show must come back! Please!!!

I enjoyed the biblical references I think the fall in ratings might match the fall in church attendence. I loved the show, but never really had time to watch it on television, and I was confused with the switch in time slots. I loved watching it on Nbc.com perhaps moving the show to online only would save money IDK. Although I adored the show for its theological parallels, and dramatic suspensfulness, I think the show didn’t really conect with American audiences. It also lacked sexual provactivness, and hard hitting action we american love. I applaude the show for not making any compromises but, thats also why the ratting where so low. This is not a network show! My friends who aren’t into wednesday night bible study hated the show. The King David reference flew over most peoples heads. Im sorry the populous isn’t into intellectual stimuli.

I believe the reason Kings wasn’t watched was because of Scheduling. How can the Christian population watch if they are at church Sunday evenings? Also there was not enough publicity. What if NBC gave Kings as much media attention as they have given Jay Leno. I certainly know when to tune in for his show and I am updated on the programs. Let’s give Kings another chance.

‘KINGS’ Once again another great series goes to the toilet bowl. I said in my last post…It’s not what ‘they’ want you to see! Because it will make you THINK! If you know anything about your bible, you’ll see a big resemblance to it. Even in the character names, the city names they use to even the events of that day! You see this program is just NOT politically correct for us to be watching, it makes us…THINK! The media cops can’t allow that, it might cause a riot, for God’s sake! Whoops did I say God? Wouldn’t want to do that. But that’s just what they DON’T want you to do. And that is to even think about God. I won’t get into a big discussion about God. This is just a TV series which I thought was great. It was interesting, intriguing and just plain good TV watching. And again, I guess I’ll go back to AMC watching b/w war movies w/John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, or the Western Channel’s w/the same characters! I just WON’T watch reality shows, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER!!

I absolutely agree with other commenters above. I hate all those “mindless” reality shows. Sure, they are cheaper to produce but I just refuse to watch that trash. I LOVED Kings. NBC needs to market better. I didn’t know about Kings until my son told me about it. I’m really disappointed that I found something this good and it’s being discontinued!

I am so sick of reality shows and the mindless crap that is on network TV. Thank you HBO, Showtime and FX for having the courage to air shows for viewers that are actually capable of using their brains.
I ended up watching the premier episode and future episodes online. I had to search for it. NBC – if you want a case study on how to kill a great show, follow the model you used for Kings…. On the other hand, if you want a show to be successful try advertising it!

I’m so disappointed to learn Kings is canceled after one great season. I didn’t hear much about it before the show aired – NBC didn’t advertise it well. I was hooked after the first episode, because it was so different. I was intrigued by the Biblical references and enjoyed trying to envision the fictional countries.

This is my first time writing in one of these blogs but I would like to say “kudos” to NBC for canceling another awesome show. It seems that each season NBC puts new shows on the air that are really amazing. However, as soon as you get really interested they get cancelled. This has happened so many times that I have lost count. I’m really grateful that I have HBO because I consider my t.v. time my downtime and I really hate to waste it watching “low intelligence”, reality shows. Our lives are reality. So once again, “kudos” NBC, for becoming exactly what your late night talk show hosts laugh about. A big, broke, joke.

Kings is one of the best shows ever. So NBC cancels it. Now they are threatening to cancel “The Philanthropist” which is another great show. Both shows have a deep moral theme, great acting, and wonderful scripts.

NBC should learn from its own history. In 1996. NBC canceled JAG after just one season. They said it had low ratings. The next year CBS decided to give JAG another chance and it proved very profitable, The show ran for 10 seasons and one numerous awards. Today it is seen in syndication in over 100 countries. If NBC abandons Kings and The Philantropist, I hope CBS will pick them up. It would be a profitable decision.

I know why the Kings failed. The show started on spring break and final four basketball was on. I watched for the show and even I missed the opening of Kings.. It’s SMART – SEXY – and Very Interesting. Poor timing, very sad to see this show end. Please NBC reintroduce Kings. I think it deserves a second chance.

This it was a great show that it hurt so much not to see it anymore. Im not a TV serie person. This show was an exception. I love it and I’m very sad not to enjoy it anymore. I will do what ever take to see it on again. Great diversity casts, great history on the background. I love it and I will miss it eternally.

I missed the pilot, but cought the following episodes. It seemed that the netwoek did not advertise as well as it should have to draw in viewers. I loved this program and our whole family watched it. We were very upset to see it cancelled. When I would talk to others about my “new favorite” show they would ask what the name was and comment on how great it sounded. Most had never heard of it!!! This was a great program and could have been a big hit if NBC had made a better effort to get the word out.

Kings was a great show. I had hoped that NBC would reconsider and give it one more season to find its audience. The other thing is that the DVD sales for this show would have been strong, I think. That said, at $4mm per episode, without the ratings, too expensive to continuing producing at the calibre loyal fans expect. I sure wish they did though – best new show I have seen on television in years.

I didn’t just like the show, I loved that show. It actually drove me to get online and discuss it on the Kings on NBC website w/ others fans which I have never done before. I haven’t been this excited about a tv program since watching the muppets when I was 4! There’s nothing good on tv anymore, it’s all the same old crap w/ different names and faces. I hardly ever watch tv anymore (especially now!) I’m not religious at all, in fact it’s what makes their religion different from any religion on this earth that I like: that their god is so interactive/communicative w/ them. I’d probably have to wear diapers for a week if this show was ever picked up again bcs I’d be peeing myself for sheer joy.

the show failed because the network throws stuff out there but doesn’t give people a chance to find it and attach. if they want instant success i guess they just have to keep tossing out mindless reality shows. after all, it doesn’t take much intellect to sit in front of the tube and watch obese people sweat, or dumb couples fall into water hazards.
keep canceling the good shows and pretty soon you’ll just have the short bus people as your audience. that ought to make advertisers happy!

this is ridiculous. ive never been this excited about a show since BSG. the storyline you have going is just teeming with potential, i seriously cant believe you (nbc) idiots. you dont know what good stuff you’re letting slip through your fingers.

but wtf do i care? by now even if you did put it back on the air at all, it would probably be written purely for excessive empty drama and unnecessary hightened suspense just to scrape across the ratings quota line and not the good dishings of enticing plots and intricate characters we viewers had earlier.

oh well. its not my foot im shooting nbc. and there’ll probably be others. tv has really gotten lame.

NBC really has no ability to understand how their business is changing. Kings is a terrific show. They would have done well to give a shot, like they did for “Seinfeld” which was a pretty poor show in its first 2 seasons. Moreover, perhaps putting it on SyFy or Bravo would have been a better fit.

It is such a shame to see it go. And a crime to leave an audience hanging. Clearly, David would go on to be King. Duh. But, the writers did a good job of keeping it suspenseful.

My folks love the show too, and they had no idea it was cancelled until I told them. Again, Jay Leno mocks NBC for good reason. It is run by hacks and amateurs.

Kings was an exceptional program and highly original. As with Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, it seems big networks (big suprise) care only for pizaz and high monetary returns. Since NBC and Fox are worthless in the sense that they cater only to mainstream and somewhat idioitic shows like Friends, then why not have a network devoted entirely to drama and theatre? It certainly could allow for shows like Kings to carry on.

I went back and watched the previous episodes and just when I was having family over for Kings night, the show got cancelled. Please NBC…please pick it back up again. It is insane to think that a show so well written, so well cast, and with such a fresh story line as compared to the rest of the trash on TV can be given the ax. I used to love TV, but I guess I grew up. I really hope HBO will pick it up. I guess I’ll have to start to pay for good TV.

I think if we could get enough people to petition for at least a better ending to the show, (maybe 10 more shows or something) It would catch on to maybe adding another full season (thats about 20 episodes or so). I know this show is more mini-series material then a full multi-season series, but it deserves to be finished out right. Think about it, HBO, Showtime, USA, A&E. You know who you are, you guys who make really great shows out there without the approval of a bunch of teenaged brats stuck on stupid reality shows.

“Kings” was mishandled by NBC from the start. The ad campaign had me confused. I almost missed the pilot episode. The religious angle was completely absent from mention – as if they were ashamed. Sigh.

NBC is operating like a suicidal maniac. Keeping the roster filled with Reality Schlock and dumping the ten o’clock slot into the crapper (no offense to Jay, but he’s not prime time material) is going to kill it. At last review, I will only be watching two shows – Law and Order, and Law and Order: SVU, and nothing else on NBC.
My PVR is filling up with (gasp) FOX and CBS and ABC slots.

If America is lucky, Jay will be canceled (or pared down to ONE show per week) and NBC will rush to restore all those canceled quality shows that apparently get ignored by Nielsen drones.

I’m sorry to see this show cancelled. It’s one of the few I watch on primetme NBC. I watch less and less TV as more and more ridiculous reality shows and sitcome take up airtime. There are some adults in the world that like to see a series with good plots, not so much “kissy face bedtime” (as Desparate Housewives, which I could only stomach for about 3 minutes), and the brainless sitcoms. Done with Leno, who was my favorite. Don’t like Conan, Letterman and Kimmel. Wrote off these spinmasters after all the McCain/Palin bashing. Can’t stand the kiss-a** favoritism slanted toward Barry O.

The only thing that’s left is the Fox New Network with O’Riley, Hannity and Greta.

Goodbye to NBC, ABC and CBS.

It is shocking that Kings has canceled. Even so, just as David Shepherd, (I’m being dramatic, of course) I cannot allow it to go on without doing as much as I can to save the Peace, er, show.

“It’s just a show,” everyone tells me, and my reply, “Have you watched the show? Have you experienced the show?”

Their reply, “When was it on?”

What a shame NBC! YOU ARE TO BLAME!

Ironically, NBC reminds me of ‘William Cross,’ the way they switched King’s to Saturday with little or no notice to (in my mind anyway) undermine and destroy the show!

I blame NBC. This show really lacked nothing. It had excellent writing, plots, characters, and creativity. It was so refreshing to have something new come out that isn’t a police/hospital show that’s just trying to be another SVU or Grey’s Anatomy.

The network handled this all poorly from the very beginning. It was barely advertised or given any publicity. How do you expect high viewers of numbers when the first airing is on the weekend when people watch less TV in the first place? And how do you expect to get more viewers by moving to Saturday, which is worse than on a Sunday?

NBC ought to give it a second chance. It’s always listed as one of the most popular and viewed shows on Hulu. Just put it on a better night, perhaps on Thurs like originally intended, and we’ll see its real potential.

I will admit that the permier episode wasn’t all that exciting but I understood it was laying the ground work for something exciting. The last few episodes were so amazing. It just kept getting better and better. I had to tune in to see what new hoops Silas would put David through and whether or not David would realize what the king was doing.
I will miss this show. NBC is seriously lacking on decent programming. I rarely watch that network.

I loved KINGS, the reason shows like this fail is because the networks show no faith, they are unwilling to wait for the show to mature, the audience grows with the show, have they not heard of “word of mouth”? I told everyone I knew about this GREAT show and no I don’t think the Biblical relation hurt at all, looks at shows like Touched by an Angel..no failure there. Oh and by the way I DVR’d most episodes of KINGS just so I could show my sisters what they were missing and they became fans also! Hope to see it on another station altho thats probably too much to hope for.

I am so frustrated about this. NBC canceled two great shows. Kings and The Listener. I agree with Di I didn’t hear about Kings until I found it on HULU and then there was the premier, and then we were told it was canceled,and then several weeks later we get the rest of the shows and figure ok it must have been a mistake and not canceled, and then they cancel it again…. NBC has no loyalty to their viewers anymore. They are like children and they want instant gratification. Sometime hits take more than a season to catch on. Also I remember the days when we were told that a series was going to be canceled before hand and when it was canceled it had an ending they never just let it go without finishing it up somehow… I am so disappointed.

As is typical in today’s American Society, true creativity is never rewarded unless there is an immediate payback $$’$. What a shame NBC through in the towel on this series because viewers did not tune in to the first few episodes of this masterpiece of a story line, eloquently acted and presented. A true original series which could have had a story line that went on for a decade or more. NBC could have had in their possession the next West Wing, but they chose to cancel. Please … somebody, anybody. pick up this wonderful show and bring it back to life. There WILL be a loyal audience when the word gets out.

wow what a great series.. i just found it.. and watched it on hulu.com.. all 12 episodes.. .. wow . i tried to give it a 11 but 10 was as high as the ratings went.. .. then to my shock and horror.. i found out there are no more episodes.. it’s canceled.. wow.. unbelievable..

i think i’ll go back and watch it again.

I don’t feel the network advertised this series enough at all, let alone in the beginning. The way I found about the series was when it was available as a free download on iTunes.

I thoroughly enjoyed the series and wish it could make a comeback, even on another network.

The show was well acted, superbly written, and will be deeply missed.

Kings is an awesome show with fantastic acting, writing, set design, etc. The network has no idea what it’s doing… They never promoted it properly or gave it a good time slot.

For me, “Kings” would have done better as a mini series. The complex plot, well defined characters, and spectacular settings were too badly broken up by the 17+ minutes of commercials jammed into each 60 minute episode. Like several of the commentators above I mostly watched it on hulu. When I fanally figured out that the story line was of biblical origin (dumb de dumb dumb) I went and reread portions of 1&2 Samuel. Too bad! A second and third season would have been even better.

I too blame the network. I loved Kings. I first encountered it on Hulu and then set my DVR. After the 4 Sunday Eps, I was content to wait for the rest of the season, which I never saw. Finally the last 2 eps showed up on my DVR and I was shocked to learn that several eps had played out between. I’ve now watched them all and I’m pissed that the show is getting canned. When will the Networks figure out that for the last 2 years, it does not matter when a show id aired, since almost everyone I know watches it On Demand or from their DVR. The ratings system needs to join the modern age as well or more and more good shows will get mistakenly killed off, beause they do not realize that people ARE watching them, just not when the network thinks they can dictate us too.

Kings was such a “pretty” show, an excellent setting and fantastic dialogue. The show was more about an entire country and not just people.

I’m blaming Kings’ lack of success of the network. They had a great show and released in the summer, not smart. If they had something good they should have waited till the fall when everyone watches tv.

They should just try again with show

I am SOOOOO sick of the slavish devotion to the 18-45 demo even though I’m a part of it. Do they not realize that a show like Kings might actually appeal far more to the 30-70 demo…and oh yeah, but the way, wanna know who still has money in this economy NBC (hint: it’s not the younger set!)

Sadly Kings was also too literate, too well-acted and too “deep” for the lower end of the desired demo. It forced viewers to think and challenged us by presenting characters who were not stereotypes. Hm. Kinda like Seinfeld did with the Sit Com –and we all know that that show would NEVER have made it if aired today. Not to mention that NBC never promoted it.

When the last episode aired last Saturday I felt deflated. How could NBC kill such a wonderful series? It’s not like they have anything else??? I keep wishing HBO or USA would save it, but I suppose it’s not likely. I will miss Silas, David, Jack and Michelle.

“Kings” demise can be traced to December ’08 when new NBC vice-president for primetime entertainment Angela Bromstad arrived. It was her decision to move “Kings” from its originally publicized Thursday night spot to Sunday. Her predecessors, who were let go, were “Kings” proponents, and Bromstad, rather than embracing this brilliant show, relegated it to Sunday night, where it didn’t get the ratings. After only four episodes on Sunday, “Kings” was shuffled off to Saturday, the television graveyard. “Kings” wasn’t given a chance. It seems the show was deliberately killed off. Even before her arrival, NBC wasn’t too sure how to promote “Kings” — the network didn’t want it to appear to be a religious show, and publicity efforts were murky at best. Had “Kings” remained in the Thursday night slot, I feel certain it would have received the viewership it need. The writing is brilliant, scenery magical, the acting worthy of Shakespeare, and the plot twists enough to keep viewers intrigued. This show was the best entertainment on any network station in ages. What a shame NBC executives couldn’t see the goldmine right in front of them.

I am very saddened that Kings is being cancelled! It is one of the most imaginative shows that kept you hanging and anxious for the next episode! Not another cop show or comedy, but a show with depth to the characters that kept you rooting for the good guys and trying to figure out what was next on the plot line. I can’t stand that we will not see any further episodes….it has so much potential to several seasons long such as 24, thougth a totally better story line and plot!

Please, consider a second season. With better marketing and promotions, plue moving it to a week night, I do believe it would have improved viewership. It really is quite ingenious. Maybe it could be moved to one of your other cable networks…we see a lot of our favorites there.

Thanks for providing an excellent program. I pray we haven’t seen the last episode!

What a shame. Kings is what brought me back to Prime Time TV. I so believe NBC failed the show. They doomed it from the beginning by airing on Sat. night! I watched it on HULU when I had time.

Thanks NBC, you just threw out the window one of the best written, acted and filmed shows I have seen in a very long time.

If 20th Century Fox had only let audiences watch the first 10 minutes of Star Wars before deciding whether they would roll the rest of the film, they would have missed out on one of the greatest movie franchises in film history. The same goes with Kings. We were barely introduced to the characters before the show was shelved. As much as I would like to bash NBC for pulling the show, I give them some credit. At least they are trying to raise the bar by giving shows like Kings (and Journeyman, etc.) a shot. But, Brent (above) is right. Our culture is too techno-savy. People aren’t going to tune in on Sunday night to a show like Kings when they can pull it up “on demand” or watch it later on their DVR and/or Hulu. The networks need to start to account (more) for these variables in their revenue stream. We (the viewing public) aren’t watching less television; we’re watching more. We’re just not watching it the way that you think we are!

what biblical relation… oh yeah.. no it had nothing to do with that! I actually loved the way they portrayed it and the emotion to it… i really thought viewers like myself would grow attached to David, like he is in everyone of us.. like we all have a purpose.. i guess it’s religious in some way.. but it doesn’t have to be that way… i think it really made me feel as if there was more to life… i know that sounds corny but i think it would have impacted more people’s lives!
I really didn’t know about this show, it wasn’t hyped up like most un-worthy reality shows are. I didn’t see much advertising, and i guess i didnt realize that there was a show like this till mid June…

sadly my attraction to this show, was it’s cancellation… yet i would buy the whole season, cause that’s how much i loved it…. Thanks NBC…

I thought the Show was Excellent…. it wasnt until after i saw a couple of episodes that i first saw the reference to it supposedly being based on the Biblical tale of King David…and i had to do a double take as it was the furthest thing that came to mind as i watched the show… i took the religious elements as giving the show something of a very well done supernatural edge that didnt go over the top… rather than something outright “biblical”… i definitely think it was a mistake bill it as such.

It was the ONLY show on nbc that i watched. Really do hate to see another Great show get the axe due to Neilson/ ratings system that dont work.

It was stunning. Well written, very imaginative, and like BSG, keeps you hanging.
This shows also reveals the decay of the American mind.

I am very disappointed today with today’s TV Networks. The only shows that they tend to keep are reality shows (I know I am restating some above comments, but it is true). Kings is a great example of a show being imaginative and creating a piece of art. The character development was great and the scenes were beautiful. I see nothing but shows getting canceled all the time and it pains me to see a show with so much depth and premise to be cut off before it can even get through its first heat. And about ratings, the system is flawed. Think about college campuses and this new internet generation, we want on demand shows. Hulu and other sites are where we watch our shows. It is way cheaper for an internet connection than to pay for cable and have a ton of unwanted material added in in a package deal. Start looking at internet hits and pull in the whole picture TV Networks. All you are going to do is promote some new show and get the rating back on the first night and go, “Well, that blew up in our faces. The ratings weren’t high enough. Can it and lets write another one. Will do better then.”….And the cycle contines….

I defiantly think the network isn’t giving online viewers any notice. I am sad now that I didn’t tune in on Saturdays but instead watched it on hulu the next day. I just don’t watch TV on Saturdays, especially in the summer. Another season I think could really turn the ratings around.

I’m sorry to see Kings go. It was anothera show that I cared to get involved with. I refuse to watch reality shows – never have and never will. So many of the shows I like have been canceled without any resolution. Since this seems to be the way TV is heading, I believe I will only watch movies, documentaries, sports shows and shows that conclude in each episode and do not leave me hanging. Boo! to the TV industry and shame on them..
