NBC just keeps getting dumber and dumber by cancelling yet another good show. I have been waiting for this to return, just found out it was cancelled. I know fellow Kings watchers know how I felt when I heard the news, but I dont think NBC really cares much. Lately the networks have been killing the good shows, yet keeping the shows that NO ONE, that I know anyway, watches. It down right pisses me off, to think this was a failure.

NBC if you were smart you would bring back Kings. I agree with alot of people that it was not properly advertised, but now that it has caught on through the web, I feel like the ratings would increase because the web did the job that your advertising team did not. Genius is hard to stifle for long and it is apparent that Kings has caught on. I am sure NBC can afford to take a risk and try to bring back worthy dramatic tv….reality tv is overrated and overplayed!!! Kings was the most captivating tv I have seen in years. I do not think it would matter what day or time slot you put it in…we live in a world where DVR’s are as common as toasters. WE WILL WATCH…..

It was not promoted enough before or during its showing. Most new shows one sees during every tv break, this one was barely seen. I just got hooked from one and kept up with when it was coming on. Shame on those responsible for the bad promotion of this Excellent, crebral TV series.

I just can’t get over what little good shows their are anymore and this one had to be the one to get the axe!! What the hell is wrong with these networks. Who makes these choices? THIS IS LIKE THE ONLY SHOW THEY HAD ON THEIR NETWORK I WATCH! No longer watching their network til they bring it back! EVERY CHARACTER was soooo STRONG! Finally u get a good show and perfect cast and then some dill weed has to ruin it for us, I’m so tired of liking shows on tv and then they get cancelled, seriously GET A CLUE GUYS!

I feel like the other people that responded to Kings being canceled. This was a wonderful show, it held my interest, it was very intriguing. You need to bring this show back for the mature audiences that appreciate some thought being given to a story line. Please give us back some intelligent television. Everyone involved in this show should be proud of their work.

I, like many others, discovered this show online and was instantly hooked. I watched the entire season over the course of the last week and was disappointed to hear there are no plans for season 2. I’m not sure what is going on over at NBC but they seem to be unable to get out of their own way. I hold out hope that with Leno vacating 10pm ET there will be a slot for Kings…then again it might be more cost-effective for NBC to set up a webcam pointed at a fish tank.

I just watched the whole season on HULU and it was great. I wanted to watch it during the season but the time it was on in the evening I had other engagements. I Loved every minute of the show and wish some one will pick it up and continue. I do not know what is wrong with this country, but Good drama seems to be failing just after a season or two. Why is that? I have fallen in love with a few good shows over the last year to find that they have been canceled because of lack of viewers. And the shows that do survive aren’t worth watching.

I recieved the first season of kings (never hearing of it previous only givin to me by a friend who is also hooked) only 3 days ago and i have finished it already, which was no easy feat i work 14hrs a day. i got that into it i even snuck in an episode whilst at work. on trying to find out when season 2 was to start i was extremely disapointed in reading that NBC had canceled the show i mean the only TV series i enjoy more then that is HEROES. there seems to be alot of support for the show and considering the story line it seems to grab people from every direction and suck them in religeous or not, the story line was really starting to get good, NBC seeem to have givin us little time to build up an appropriate fan base as most TV series these days seem to have about 20 episodes in the first season to give viewers a chance to really get to know the characters and fall in love with them. i say they should at the least give them another season i reakon NBC will get a suprise and from what i read NBC move it to a time slot over there in America that doesn’t get a very wide variety of viewers. i say get rid of reality TV crap, the only reason that crap gets high ratings is cause the idiots that are watchin it are to stupid to follow a decent story line and we all know there are alot of idiots out there and unfortunatly most of them are the ones without jobs and are able to spend more time watching TV uping the ratings of these mindless shows.leaving only one thing left to say BRING BACK KINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife and I found Kings to be the best TV moment of the week. I believe one of the reasons it found a small audience is that Americans know little or nothing of the history of any other nation. The Kings storyline followed much of the Biblical account of King Saul and King David and the history of the nation of Israel placed in a 21st century context. We have no interest at all in the mindless programs whose plots rival the weather report and have no educational or intelligent content. Shame on NBC for catering solely to the mindless minions.

I don’t think the network did a good job of promoting this series, as it only came on my radar from surfing the iTunes store. Once discovered, I was instantly addicted. Finally, a smart, interesting show that competed with series like Dexter, True Blood, Weeds, etc. This series was one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. I found it to be visually beautiful, interesting and extremely entertaining. The cast was remarkably talented, consistantly delivering outstanding performances. I am so disappointed to discover that this series has been cancelled. I was truly left on the edge of my seat and couldn’t wait for season two. Hopefully the network will reconsider and give it another chance.

How is Kings off the air but shows like Merlin are still playing. Kings was turning into a show that reviled other big shows like Lost on other networks. NBC along with many other large networks have no idea about whats good and whats not. I’m sick of being force feed reality TV constantly, its boring and i don’t care who’s the biggest loser is or who wants to marry a millionaire. Oh well I guess, chalk this one up to other great shows like Arrested Development…..

I was very let down to read that Kings was cancelled. It had more depth and plot than most shows I have seen in years. I was instantly captivated by it’s characters and story lines that followed each person and how they all intermingled. The network big boys have sadly sold out for reality tv that is just not satisfying to me anymore (or other viwers i’m sure) R.I.P. “Kings” :0(

I have watched a lot of television in my time, and KINGS possesses all things good about television. Entertainment has gotten way too shallow and meaningless, it hurts to turn on the screen because I know I will always be disappointed, let down, and left completely unsatisfied. KINGS, however, made me want more. It quenched some inward emptiness, some story that has been told so many times but is now new. This was one small, but great step to some sort of renewal of the entertainment industry, and now that hope is gone.

Kings was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Well-chosen actors, creative directing, and phenomenal story-telling, this show is top notch. My husband and I are youth Pastors and are amazed at the quality. We had to buy the season on DVD and LOVED it! Shame to have it stop there! This NEEDS another shot. Someone definitely should pick this up and finish it well.

I find it so depressing that quality doesn’t seem to hold any weight anymore. Kings was an epic show, a show that actually required thought! I cannot believe that it was canceled while the ridiculous reality shows are thriving on every network. It was a show of merit, and it was highly original. NBC killed a television jewel, and I would love to see it brought back in some form.

Hello. My husband and I “stumbled” upon Kings when it aired back in April. What an intense, thought provoking mini-series that continued to challenge our “moral fiber” by its strong Biblical parallels. We were hooked immediately!

The selection of the actors were “on point” which assisted the audience to experience first-hand the dynamics of the City of Gilboa and its issues. King Silas exuded royalty with ALL its ego and quirks. His portrayal reflected the passions, vulnerabilities and dark side of the human heart.

Kings was an honest and refreshing series which allowed the viewers to participate in lives of the “first family” of the City of Gilboa. Every twist, unexpected scriptural parallel held our attention as we desired for MORE when the show ended weekly. It’s an unfortunate loss for quality and content that is absent in network and other television venues.

The execs at NBC should be creative enough to financially manipulate their investments (lower costs) and continue in the quality of the show. A Saturday or Sunday 8:00 slot would be most appropriate.

This is the best show there has been in years. it was something totally different than the other shows. everything nowadays is the same. either about some hospital, some detective or criminal show or some vampire show or something. there are no original shows anymore. But kings is a whole different concept which would pay off. Me and some friends would watch every show & be bummed when it ended and knew we’d have to wait another week just to see it. i think it would have made so much money for NBC if they’d given it some time. I also think Saturday was not the best time to put it. thats when no one really wants to stay home and watch a show. They’d rather be doing something else that doesn’t require them to stay home and watch television. with a better day it would have in my opinion sky rocketed.

NBC made a big mistake cancelling Kings. Kings was the most creative show that I’ve seen in forever. Imagine having to really pay attention, use your brain and think as you watch and are entertained. I know that I looked forward to watching every week and I know many others that did to. We talked about what was going on with the story line during the week and speculated on what to expect the following week. It is such a waste to just discard all the hard work and talent that went into creating this series. Bring it back, continue the story, make your viewers happy to watch NBC.

Hey, NBC: Why NOT keep the “Kings” web site? Maintaining it must cost next to nothing. CBS still has the web page for “Threshold” YEARS after it was canceled. The video links are disabled, but that would be expected so they wouldn’t compete with DVD sales (and you WILL learn how badly you blew it when the “Kings” DVDs hit the market).

Hmmm… “Kings”, “Threshold”, “Pushing Daisies”… I really know how to pick the ones that are too good to succeed! Those were at three different networks, so NBC isn’t the only net with butterfingers when a TD pass heads its way.

I read that the original plan was to drop this into the time slot of “ER” and that this changed when “ER” was extended by three episodes. My guess is that they never reconfigured the introductory promotion for “Kings” to allow for the lack of access to the “ER” audience.

See Michael Green’s comments on the “Kings” web site. The show is completely, irrevocably gone. Pleas for its return are useless.

If somebody knows how to plead with NBC to leave the program’s web site up for our amusement, do that.

I don’t know that there is enough of a fan base for it, but wouldn’t a “Kings” feature film to tie up the loose ends be a peach? There are precedents for successful films from ratings failures (“Firefly”/”Serenity”, for example), but I don’t know that a “Kings” film could be self-contained enough to draw a sufficient audience. Those who watched the program aren’t enough.

Perhaps it will be like “Star Trek” or “Battlestar Galactica” and return in a decade or two!

I was upset when ER ended and I thought that I was done with NBC since that was one of the only shows I actually watched but then Kings came along and I watched it through out the season and was really looking forward to a second. Come on NBC people will watch it you just have to do better marketing or sell it to another station that will give audiances what they want which is actual tv not reality we live in it every day tv is our escape and this show helped us do that PLEASE do the right thing and BRING BACK KINGS!!!!!!!!

Don’t know how HBO can get away with putting on excellent, ‘high brow’ shows, and network TV can’t. We just watched all 12 episodes on the internet because we just found out how good a show it was. It was FANTASTIC…and the online episodes end Sept. 20 for some odd reason. This was one of the BEST shows on TV…maybe ever. Only have raves for the actors, the set, the story, the writing. Is it a wonder that TV is languishing with decisions to cancel good shows?

As a markerter, I understand why NBC cancelled the show. No viewership = no advertisers = no show. As a viewer, however, I love this show. It’s well written, the art direction is beautiful and the acting is fantastic. I feel that NBC failed in marketing the show appropriately and did not do it’s part to emotionally connect it’s show to it’s audience. For spending $4million per show, NBC should have put some of that cash into a more creative promotion instead of putting in the standard marketing formula.

After only 3 episodes, NBC dumped the show into a weekend slot where it KNEW no shows do well?? That’s intentionally putting it where it would fail. Three episodes isn’t enough time for many drama shows to gain a following, particularly if they aren’t promoted well. I, for one, didn’t even know about the show until it was in summer reruns — THAT’S how badly marketed this show was. Then again, I spend much of my viewing time with PBS and cable networks like HBO, TNT, SciFi channel, TCM, AMC, History Channel and USA (**NOT** the fake wrestling, thank you!!!) — and I never saw an ad for Kings on any of those networks, but the ads should have been there. Considering the similarity of audiences, NBC should have been promoting Kings during shows like The Closer, Saving Grace, In Plain Sight, ER, In Treatment, and True Blood. In fact, HBO would be a great place for Kings to get a second run — if the cable network were willing to pick it up or NBC were willing to sell it. They should. But perhaps that that makes too much sense for NBC execs to grasp it.

We Love Ian McShane, and would definitely love to see him into a series he is such a strong male actor and could do any part, we loved him in deadwood and missed this series with him in kings at first but we watch it and loved him in that, I get the concept of the cancellation I think it would have worked too, Maybe you can make another series and put him as the main character,,.his acting abilities as a good guy, a mysterious guy, or the villian is all so possible and worth watching, thank you and good luck,,,, and keep them coming!

I was utterly dismayed when I learned that Kings was being canceled, like many others here have said, I also watched the entire season on Hulu. I saw the commercials and thought the show looked vaguely interesting, but had no idea the plot line was a retelling of the Biblical King David. I came across it only a few weeks ago online and was hooked after the first episode. It is perhaps the best show I have seen on network television. I really do hope that HBO or another networks picks it up–I’ve never been so excited for a Season II only to find that it doesn’t exist. It’s criminal really.

Consumer Report 2005 Auto Magazine article titled “U.S. autos narrow the gap”. An article just a couple years after GM tries to gain 2% of the market share. Both laughable then, and obviously laughable to everyone now… What’s the point? Hollywood is the next Detroit. They have no idea when they make the mark, miss the mark, or why anything works or doesn’t. It all doesn’t matter; sponsors are going to eventually find somewhere else to be loyal to when determining where to put their tons of advertising money. Broadcast TV is scrambling to always hit the grand slam without the patience or care to build viewer royalty. Put a $4 million per episode show on Sunday, with trailer commercials that look schizophrenic, and 3 weeks later move it to Saturday? If there isn’t some hidden ulterior motive, then they must be as lost as Detroit with the same deserving fate. Cable, Satellite, Netflix, … –> take your pick and if something on network is worth watching and the network doesn’t discard it like a step child, then you can get the series on DVD when it makes it past the assembly line.

At least I’m glad that SOME people in this world enjoy/understand the talented and intricate production. Seriously, I can hardly believe that someone could watch an episode of Kings and NOT be in love with it or at the very LEAST enjoy it. I’ve read the other comments too… it’s great to see that there are others just as enraged and hurt by NBC’s actions. They are totally right: it was terribly publicized/promoted, it should have been on primetime, and other media besides T.V. should have been taken into ratings consideration. I feel so betrayed by the cancellation of this show… it lacks closure! At the very least, they could have tried to wrap up some of the loose ends that were intended for future seasons in a couple of episodes, or maybe given the show to another network as others have suggested. Just continue the show for the sake of art and ingenuity everywhere!

It may have been too complicated for the current audience as they have been numbed and brainwashed by sell-out programming and such, but I’m sure people would have eventually awoken from their stupor and gotten behind Kings 100%. I myself watch very little T.V.; my time is reserved for shows which actually MOVE me such as Lost or Kings. This cancellation is a stab in the back.

Kings is a an anti America show. If you are a communist , live under a KING or DICTATOR or live in a third world country and under a KING’s rule you will like kings. But in America and other freedom loving countries we do not want this type of rule. Maybe if NBC would write about what people want – they would get viewers. Here is an idea, a pro-america show! Wow what a concept. Not everyone hates america – and people do not want to watch a show about an alternate america where a king rules – we have alternate realtiy star trek ( a positive show ) for that. People are not dumb. NBC hire some pro-american writers. Immigrants with another perspective who love america to get some new shows.

If NBC is smart, they would take Kings and place it on their Universal TV channel on cable. I know they gambled on putting it on over-the-air TV, but someone in programing should have know that the amount of TV audiences that have have short attention span are growing. The TV audiences of today are overworked, overclocked, I-Need-Gratification-Now, generation. Kings is a show that would take an impatience audience too much to absorb. Thankfully there are still an audience that need quality programing if they are going to blow their money on a market that over-saturates itself with crap.

I think Bromstad under-estimates the intelligence of the viewer if she thinks Kings is a bit “high brow”. Its a delight to get away from the mind numbing reality shows that we are being bombarded with. Programs like Kings and Eleventh Hour are a breath of fresh air . Will have to see if “Day One” lives up to all the hype and is not just a remake of “V” with modern sfx.

It doesnt surprise me that Kings was cancelled I was looking forward to the series at the start of the season but Then It was placed on Saturday night… That is an automatic pass for me. I am NEVER home watching The tube on Saturday night.
If the show were on Tuesdays or Thursdays or Even Sundays it would have survived. So sorry that NBC lost 48 Mil on its production. But its not the first time that improper scheduling has shot them in the foot. This was the sort of show I love, Like Rome & the Sopranos. only this one I dug more for the great writing & the ersatz Shakespearean pathos. Thanks to Hulu I got to see it. Otherwise I’d have missed it completely.

Love Kings. I can’t tell you how upset I am that it’s cancelled. I loved the modern take on a historical story. I was hooked that first episode somewhere in the middle of the war scene when I realized it was about the biblical story. I just thought it was so clever, I had to watch that episode all over again. I really appreciate that NBC took that risk with it, because even if it got cancelled, the 12 episodes we got were entirely worth it. The character development was strong and the plot was, for a well-known story, still unexpected. Very cool.

It really is unfortunate that this show is now out of production. I just finished the season (on Hulu) and I was really looking forward to another season.

Hopefully a network like HBO will be brave enough to pick it up. This show easily trumps some of the ones they already air. Got my fingers crossed, but I think this show will never make it back up. Its really unfortunate, but Hollywood hasn’t been able to grasp a new idea in y ears. They can only think so far as to rehash old ideas that have already run their courses.

Loved Kings. Thought the story line was very relavant to todays world. Can’t figure out the $4,000,000 per episode tho. Ian was the only star on the show, and there were very few special effects. Too bad the networks keep going back to medical, crime and reality shows, At least the cable channels take a chance on new ideas, you watch, they will get most of the Emmys again this year.

This is too bad. One of the best shows on network television in several years. It could succeed on HBO perhaps. It is easier, these days, to appeal to the lowest common denominator audience, and throw on more reality shows. It is a business, after all. If it happened to be a good show, artistically presented and well acted, well, that would have been an accident anyway. Being based on a biblical story could have worked out had they advertised it more towards that angle in the red states.

I really felt this was one of the better shows on TV. It not only touched upon all of the big issues that are important now, wars, the economy, factions within a government, but it did a really wonderful job of reimagining the premise of Kings in the bible. Not that you have to believe in the bible for an allegorical tale to be enjoyable. The problem was the advertising. The back of a guys head looking at a crowd for 5 seconds is INSUFFICIENT. The promo’s needed to let people know that this is a retelling of an historical story and that it deals with all these crazy events. And also, I watch it on Hulu… not on tv. NBC needs to get into the 21st century and rely upon more than just the nielsens.

Kings was too high brow for NBC, not that NBC is a bad network they just don’t do shows that make you think. I love Chuck and Heroes they are fun to watch but honestly the dialogue just isn’t there, the character development just isn’t there.

Kings should have been an HBO or Showtime show from the start. Look at the shows they have put out in the past; The Tudors, Dead Like Me, Deadwood, Dexter, Carnival, Oz, etc. These shows were about the characters much like Kings. The audiences that like these shows just don’t watch primetime basic cable.

I can almost guarantee that if this had been on a premium chanel this show would have run it’s full course.

Kings was one of the best shows on TV. I can’t believe they’re keeping Merlin (pile of stinking dragon-crap that it is) and canceling Kings.

Can’t they just cut the budget and keep the show going?

This was a great show. As an athiest, I could care less about the bible, but was hooked by the depth of the characters and complex interactions with each other.

I hate watching TV when things are broadcast because I refuse to be bound by anyone elses schedule –> hence TiVo and Hulu being my watching media.

If NBC took Hulu and Itunes ratings into account, this show would have been in the Tues night lineup!

Just another reason NBC is trailing – no commitment to good programming. At lease CBS picked up Medium – maybe a cable net will pick up Kings. Very good program, watched live or DVRd all episodes. One of the few with a good storyline.

How do these idiots at the networks get their high paying jobs thinking that people are interested in all this reality b.s.? Who gives a sh*t about those crappy shows. This is what they dont have a clue about….WE LIVE IN REALITY EVERYDAY!!!!! we know what goes on, we watch tv TO ESCAPE REALITY, not to..live, breathe & be reminded of it everywhere we turn. Well, I can tell you why I didn’t watch it: because I don’t trust the networks. I’ve had my heart broken too many times by getting into a show only to see it disappear after 3 or 4 (or less!!) episodes.

Before I’m going to commit to something with a complex plot line I want to be assured that a) there will be a real ending not a cliffhanger and b) the network is going to show all of it. And no, streaming it online does not count as ’showing all of it’.

In spite of the failure of that specific show, I think the Harper’s Island (and Crusoe) model is the way to go for these sorts of things on network television. They need to be written with an eye to telling a complete story arc with a satisfying ending in the limited number of episodes they have. There’s nothing to say they can’t leave a few tendrils at the end for additional seasons, but I have no intention of watching something where I -know- I’m going to be left hanging with major plot issues left unexplained.

Battlestar was lucky it made it through 4 years. Shows like Kings, Jericho, Virtuality or Defying Gravity are too intelligent for network television or television at all and will eventually have to find its genre settling for viewership on advertising backed nternet sites in years to come

This show was the best show I ever seen on TV. The problem is not the show but the NBC executive producers. They put the show on Saturday which they should put prime time during the week. The idea to cancel this show was really bad. It was a bad move from the NBC managers. The script, story and the acting were unbelievable great. I hope the write & producer can take this to another TV station like Bravo, HBO, Showtime etc. It hurts to know a great production like that can die because some stupid Network President. She/He should be fired.

LOVE this series… but the reason it failed is because people in the United States don’t know the real story – don’t read their Bibles and don’t care about Biblical history. Remember what the blockbuster “The Ten Commandments”? That’s because people, THEN, knew the Ten Commandments and all the action that surrounded that story.

If churches, synagogues & parents would actually teach the Bible, this sort of series would be popular!

Kings is a show that chanllenges the view to think and analyze. It was too good for NBC and would have been better on HBO. So sad that the general public missed out on such a great show. I have watched and rewatched episodes several times online and each time have drawn more information/details from the episode that I missed previously. On a few occassions my teenage daughter had come in while I was watching and she was hooked. She was disappointed that there wouldn’t be a second season. This show definitely deserves a second change with the right marketing and promotion.

For me, the pretentious spirituality and the absence of meaning behind monarchical order, makes for really bad story telling. The creators should spend the 4mill per episode on a Deadwood spin-off, perhaps set in New York where the Pinkertons ruled the dark alleys and Wall street. But be sure David Milch can add his magic to it.

And once again, the nets chalk up the death of a quality ty TV show to its being too tough for the audience to grasp. UGGGGGGH!!!!! Wake up networks. LOST is also “too complicated” for viewers weaned on The Bachelor, but it has a harder core fan base than just about any show other than Original Star Trek. When will networks realize that people who have the brain power to watch, engage with and become invested in shows like these also: tend to have college educations/higher degrees, have stable jobs where they make a decent income, will become rabidly devoted and eventually inspire others. Look at Supernatural. The first season is a MOW show. Almost unwatchable when you consider what it morphed into. It expects the viewer to swallow a lot, but we do so happily.

I want to give shows like Flash Forward a chance, but right now I’m waiting for NBC to kill Merlin….as formulaic as it can be, it and Eureka are the only things I look forward to every week now that they’ve killed the King.
