This evening, ABC airs the last episode of Last Resort — titled “Controlled Flight Into Terrain.” The network cancelled the Thursday night military drama after a short season of 13 episodes.
With low ratings, the writing was on the wall almost from the start. It was clear that Last Resort wouldn’t be getting a second season. Thankfully, ABC execs made their decision before the cast and crew had wrapped up filming, giving them time to change the 13th script and give fans some closure.
The cast and crew filmed the series finale in December and you can read some of their thoughts here.

A shame that a promising entrant in the under-served “submarine based para-melodramas” genre was sent off with such a hurried and ridiculous finale.
Awesome show,,,,,,,,,,I hope another network picks it up
Although I’m from the UK I found this show amazing! I can’t believe that it’s been axed, hopefully it gets renewed on a different channel.
This series continued to evolve with every episode. The production values were top notch for television shows these days along with veteran directors at the helm. Did anyone happen to notice Martin Campbell’s name credited as director of the pilot? You might recall him directing a couple “small” films named “Goldeneye” and “Casino Royale”. Although I found the time slot a bit conservative for a show as ambitious as Last Resort it played well in my opinion with a great ensemble cast! Andre Braugher continues to amaze me with his range as an actor! The show really should have been given more of a chance! I hope maybe another network will pick it up. This type of series would do better on “cable”.
