While some TV shows are losing viewers, TNT’s Leverage is having more success than ever. As a result, the cable channel has renewed the action series for a fifth season of 15 episodes.
AS they have in the past, TNT is breaking up the current fourth season of Leverage into two parts. The summer finale (episode 10) will air on August 28th. That will leave five episodes which will run in November and December. Season five is slated to air next summer.
Here’s the press release from TNT:
TNT Adds More “Leverage” as Hit Caper Series Enjoys Best Season Yet
TNT has renewed its fast-paced, light-hearted caper drama Leverage for a fifth season, just as the fourth season is shaping up to score the show’s biggest ratings yet. TNT has ordered 15 episodes of Leverage, with the fifth season slated to launch in summer 2012. The series – which centers on a gang of grifters, hackers and thieves out to settle scores against the rich and powerful – currently airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. (ET/PT). After the show’s Aug. 28 summer finale, Leverage will return to wrap up its fourth season with new episodes in November and December.
Leverage is the latest high-profile series renewal from TNT following new season orders for Rizzoli & Isles, which is running neck-and-neck with TNT’s The Closer as basic cable’s #1 series; Falling Skies, which ranks as basic cable’s #1 new series for the year-to-date; and Franklin & Bash, which ranks among basic cable’s Top 10 new series this summer. TNT’s top-ranked drama The Closer is in the midst of its extended final season, which will continue in the winter and wrap in summer 2012.
Leverage premiered in 2008 and has grown its audience in each of its four seasons. This summer, leading into TNT’s new blockbuster hit Falling Skies, Leverage has expanded its audience to more than 4.8 million viewers, up 10% over season three, with 1.9 million adults 18-49 (+6%) and 2.3 million adults 25-54 (+9%).
“While many shows decline in their second, third or fourth seasons, Leverage has defied the odds and continued to climb,” said Michael Wright, executive vice president and head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “More and more viewers are discovering this weekly joy ride through wonderfully complex schemes and con games, all brought to life through smart writing, sharp directing and a terrific cast.”
Leverage stars Academy Award(R) winner Timothy Hutton as insurance-investigator-turned-thief Nate Ford, who makes it his mission to bring down those who use their power and wealth to victimize others. Also starring are Gina Bellman as brilliant grifter Sophie Devereaux, Christian Kane as retrieval specialist Eliot Spencer, Beth Riesgraf as slightly off-center thief Parker and Aldis Hodge as gadget and technology wizard Alec Hardison. Leverage is produced by Dean Devlin’s Electric Entertainment, with Dean Devlin and creators John Rogers and Chris Downey serving as executive producers.

What do you think? Are you glad to hear that Leverage has been renewed for season five or would you have preferred that it be cancelled? Does it bother you that they break up the seasons?

I hate they’re breaking up the season, I just started watching this summer and love it. I was afraid it had been cancelled like CSI: Miami with no notice to the viewers. Glad it hasn’t been cancelled, looking forward to the new episodes!!!
I love this show and can not get enough of it. I want the first 4 seasons
so I can watch it when I travel. I am getting my adult children interested in
it. They already have claimed the first two seasons when I get the DVd’s.
I hope this show will go on for years. Very Creative!!!!
I just started watching this series this year. Absolutely addicting. I have been catching up with pervious series on another channel. I agree, I loved Lie to Me, as well and was very disappointed to see that cancelled. Hopefully this show will be successful enough to keep is going indefinately.

I just started watching Leverage this season and love it
How can I get the seasons before that? Do you sell them on DVDs?
Please do not show them after 10,who wants to watch that late
I absolutely love Leverage. I hope it lasts for years. The cast is great and the stories are great. My othe favorite show is NCIS which is similar in that the cast if kind of like a family also and there is enough humor throughout both shows to keep you awake and waiting for what happens next. You almost feel like family.
I think leverage is a brilliant show.
it’s a great balance of pathos and sarcasm tied together with comedy .
I would love to see you going for another 10 seasons. The games with them the games make it very much fun. The final episode this year was wonderful
I believe it’s 1 of the best shows on tv .
Please don’t ever cancel Leverage. It’s a GREAT show and the characters are true to life. I Love this program.
[…] UPDATE: Leverage has been renewed for a fifth season of 15 episodes. […]
This is a very creative and fun show. All the characters are great.
Yes, I am very happy that Leverage has been renewed for another season. Nate is my role model, and a hero, because he helps folks instead of taking an advantage of them. If this was a documentary and we could call him when he and his group were needed.
I LOVE this show! I live where it is filmed, so that’s an added bonus! It is one of the most well-cast, well-written, and creative shows that has ever aired on any network! I think “Leverage” is successful because there are so many people out there who have been screwed over or discriminated against by their employer, bank, stock broker, or other person who has money (and therefore – power)! And we all know that you can’t beat, or even fight, the system without having the means of your own! So, “Leverage” gives a glimpse of how different things would… Read more »
YESSSS!!!! Finally some good news after some sad cancellations like “In Plain Sight” and “Eureka!” “Leverage” is great, it should continue on for ever its amazing!
Just started watching this show this season, enjoying it alot so far. Eventually will check out the earlier episodes…
NEVER CANCEL THIS SHOW!!! Fox were absolute morons and canceled Lie to me. That and Leverage were like the 2 most original shows in years. At least this show is sticking around. But it just supports my theory. It’s better to watch shows on TNT, FX, USA or one of those channels. Rather than NBC, ABC or Fox. Those shows can actually get renewed. Hell YES!!
