ok thats it if i have to say it to one more person i will snap so here it is. This show sucked thats why it lasted once season. Get on netflix or what ever and order life on mars season 1 and two from bbc and soon ashes to ashes seasons 1 2 and 3 a spin off. Harvy Kitel is the only reason why i watched this show and he phoned it in and is a blemish to the name Gene Hunt. DCI Gene Hunt forever go suck and egg Lt. Hunt. Also ABC burned through all the story lines from the BBC version in one season i would really hate to see an origional concept from these ass clowns. The show should have ended with Sam coming back to 2008 and jumping of the top of the police station to join back up with Gene and Anne. That right it wasnt a space mission they are dead. Gene Anne Sam Chris and Ray(Alex and Shaz < Ashes to Ashes) now if you dont think thats a great ending you deserve Harvy Kitel phoning it in. Gene is the Gate Keeper of the After Life unless you work your crap out you dont get to move on.

I was stationed over in Iraq and was watching this show before I left. And couldn’t wait until I could get back. My wife had DVR’D it and was told that blasted ABC cancelled the show. I just now got back to write this. ABC you suck!. If anyone knows how to get in touch with them, please copy this message and send it. I know this would be an impossible wish if ABC would bring it back.

Well LOM fans keep posting comments, and send ABC a message through their site and remind them what a mistake it was to cancel that show. No change that word from mistake to stupid. Have you notice their shows are hitting bottom. That is because viewers are getting sick and tired of reality shows. Life on Mars was a well written show from the producers to the acting. I have not watched ABC one time since they canceled the show and that is the way it’s going to be. Have had it with the networks.

I have been waiting for advertisements of the new season. Sadly I have discovered the series is over. It was my favorite show. I was puzzled wht the last show ended the way it did with the sargeant stepping onto the Mars surface. I thought hmm, I will find out next season what this means. Now I know after reading up on it. I too wish the series would continue.

Love the show not the ending. Good cast and story. I was a kid in 1973 and my father used to watch detective shows. I watch a show about a tunnel where these guy travel in the time. So to me was a perfect convination. So sorry no more of this show. The ending was horrendous. I can not believe that all the writers and creators of the program thought that was the best ending.

I loved the show and loved the cast, so I’m very sorry to see it go.

I have to say, I was pretty satisfied with the ending, though it was a little shoe horned in to give closure, because I think you can interpret it anyway you want. Is it another of his hallucinations, with the loafer stepping out at the end, or was that finally the true reality?

I did like the way,w hen questioned by Rose about how she works with/for these men, Annie responded something like “I pretend we’re in the distant future and they’re all working for me.” Tied that whole thing in there nicely. Maybe now we’re in Annie’s dream instead.

Now, though, part of me kinda wishes they would have ended it back in 1973, with Sam just staying there after hanging up on the voice on the phone, like ‘No, I don’t give a damn if you’re the entity in charge, I’m not going!’ Sort of, like a defiant middle finger to ABC on behalf of all of us fans to say ‘We’re not going to let you tie this up into a neat little package after you canceled this great show!’ Then he could not go back, but his issues would be resolved, and we could always think of them intact in that way.

While I love the show, I equally HATED the ending. Maybe it would have been digestible if the production value of the final set were better. I’ve seen better interiors from the 1930s Flash Gordon serials. And the actors seemed to HATE being in the scene. Is it just me or did they seem dis-ingenuine with their lines? While I’m one of the few people out here that loved “Vanilla Sky” I hated seeing it regurgitated on TV to tie everything up. Maybe they could have introduced an autistic child in the series and had him look into a snow globe for the final scene invalidating everything that had happened (eg. St Elsewhere).

I am so fed up with ABC, they get great shows and do such a crappy job of promoting them. They put everything on the same night and then ARE SHOCKED when a new show doesn’t get the ratings. They could place it on another night or rerun on weekend, but they again and again just cancel. I get to loving the show and its gone and I am tired of it. They also have made the schedule a nightmare, of breaks and reruns. Its not worth it to invest the time watching their shows! PLEASE, if you have a great show you are trying to get a network to carry GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!

Well ABC you really screwed up canceling ” LIfe On Mars”. Just saw the ratings on your new show “The Unusuals”, a 2.2 rating with 18-49

March 27th, LIfe On Mars had 5.6 had gained 400K. Even the opening back in Oct was 3.2. So according to this ‘Life On Mars” was gaining viewers.

ABC was the one who set up “Life On Mars” to eventually fail because of the screwed up time slots. Would it be that hard to bring back ” Life On Mars”, you might see the ratings to go even higher

As many people or more were satisfied with the ending as those who were not. That was the ending planned from the beginning, according to the creators. And if you go back and review, you can see that it was foreshadowed frequently throughout the series, starting all the way back in Episode 1. So it’s not as if there were no hints pointing to this possibility.

Regarding Lisa Bonet, it seems that she was destined to be in episode when it was scheduled to be the season finale and they forgot to remove her from the opening credits. That leads one to believe that the season-ending cliffhanger would have been Sam returning to 2008 in the last ten minutes instead of awaking on HYDE-125 in orbit around Mars. Plausible since the creators have said that the only change in the episode was what followed the last mystery phonecall, and with Sam having just come to terms of staying in 1973 and starting a relationship with Annie.

I loved the show–could not wait for the next episode. I was stunned, disappointed and outraged that the last 10 minutes of the series negated the entire series a la the Dallas/Bobby Ewing dream-like ending. As much as I loved the show–I’m not sure I’d put myself through watching it again even if it were revived (unless there were assurances that the new series would not be so whimisically dismissed by a cheesy ending such as the one we just witnessed). By the way how did you get the fine actors in this great ensemble to agree to take part in that horribly contrived ending anyway?

The problem is that when you pvr something the network doesn’t get paid for your viewership, since there is a good chance you aren’t watching the ads that pay for the programming. As they say, you get what you pay for (I’m guilty too, I never once watched an episode of LOM at it scheduled time.). Good ending tho, believe me it could have been a lot worse. I especially love the “Gene Hunt” thing, and the fact that he was his father made so much sense, nice work. IT is too bad that Bonet was never seen again after, she was my favorite Cosby kid.

We havent seen the end yet down under but what a retro blast this show has been so far. This whole theme kicked off with the brillant UK series and I am pleased to say,after initial reservations that the US version would be a second rate copy, that both are great in their own right. Well done ABC!! – but what ever you do dont turn it into another “Lost”. That started well but most of us got lost along the way – but I guess it’s whatever youre in to. Keep the retro drama shows coming and you will always be on a winner with me. Cheers

I HATE that this show was canceled! It was an awesome show and it should have been given more publicity and another season! I DVR all of my shows , as many other people do. What’s not to say how many people would actually watch the show and it did not count toward ratings. Anyway, the ending took a little time getting used to but I hope they bring it back in the future with the excuse that Sam was dreaming.

It was a disappointment that the “return to TV of Lisa Bonet” was built up so much in the pre-season publicity only to have her appear in very few scenes. Sam’s police character was great in trying to fit into a time in history when everything he knew about police work hadn’t even been invented as yet. He managed to cope extremely well. I really did like the show and am sorry that it was cancelled, although I am glad the writers had a chance to “wrap up” the story regardless of whether or not viewers liked (or believed) the ending. Too many times shows are just cancelled and leave the viewers hanging……

Its a shame that when you DVR something, it is not reflected in the ratings. It was a great show until they ended up in some cheap Star Trek I cardboard space set. There were so many directions that you could have taken that show. Now come to find out, anther show that I like Unusual is on the slab. What can you do I guess?

I am reminded of St. Elsewhere’s finale, where you are told that all the emotional connection you inevested in the whole series was not just for a fictional show, but for fiction that didn’t even happen. It is somewhat like having a practical joke played on you, even if it is a very good one, it isn’t comforting.

LOM was a great show with great writing and great acting. ABC did not give the show the chance it deserved. The TV networks used to stick with a show and give it a chance. Now, they toss shows around in different time slots and when they don’t catch on right away, which it completely the networks fault, they cancel them and blame the viewers. Cancelling LOM was the last straw for me. I watch Lost, but when it’s finished, I won’t be watching ABC anymore. I’m afraid to watch new shows now because they will only be canceled just as I get into them. I hope the ad execs read these comments so they will see that fewer people are seeing their ads, and that the networks, not the viewers, are to blame!

L o M was one of my favorite series of all time. I liked the UK version (& finale), but felt that the US version was superior (except for the US finale episode- not impressed).

I hope that someone picks up the reruns soon…

Unreal.. I recieved a phone call and missed the last 1/2 hour of the show.I’m in here trying to piece things together of how it ended… I hope they rerun or sell the series. I was a Police Officer in Newark in the 60′s and 70′s and things were just so on the money of how it was.

The show didn’t get cancelled, it was meant to end after two seasons just like the original UK version. I do wish ABC would have considered extending it maybe 1 or two more seasons, but the creator ultimately makes the decision. The cast was hands down one of the best in over a decade. The US version series finale episode ending was terrible. I guess the US censors disliked the UK’s version of the ending. I was much more satisfied with the UK version.

It is just a shame to now that the most incredible show out there today has been cancelled. Im still in denial to know there will be no more SPACEMAN! My husband and I would look forward to wednesday night to relax and watch such and amazing written show, but now what will we do? do we now have to lay back and watch ANOTHER reality show? ABC recosider and bring back LIFE ON MARS. Don’t let such a good show go to waste. and if ABC doesn’t want to pick up the show…..come on any other t.v station pick it up….cause i will be staying tune. i did not like the ending, though maybe because i did not want the show to end, period. i sure hope abc , or someone else brings MARS back. i am in total denial! i pray for this show’s return. i miss SAM and the whole cast, it hasn’t been even a week yet. let’s hope they bring it back. i believe the ending did leave hope for another series. i am thinking they did that on purpose, in case they change their minds. maybe this is just in my own imagination, but it is hopeful thinking. and in this day and age, we could use a little hope. please abc bring mars back for all us loyal fans. thank-you!

I really liked the ending. I think it was better than the UK version because Sam doesn’t die. All the characters in his programmed reality were real not dreams. They were still there at the end. If he had been in a coma, they would never have existed. I don’t think it was the same thing as the Dallas ending at all. The so called “dream” was Sam’s choice of a programmed reality while on a deep sleep space journey. The computer glitch that sent him to 1973 was brilliant.

Rewatching the whole series REALLY ties everything together. Also explains all the little robots (that were NOT in the UK version). I think it was a job well done by everyone EXCEPT ABC. How I hate that network. I only caught LoM by accident to begin with, and knew darn well I’d be sorry because it was on ABC.

The ending BTW leaves a great open door for a continued series. No it doesn’t have to be because the ending was a dream. Gene’s shoe at the end gave me the idea. The series could continue (in 1973 or any other year) because Sam chooses that reality on the return trip to Earth. That leaves it open to do whatever they want with it. Somebody has GOT to pick this up!!!! Look what the UK has done with Ashes to Ashes.

Great, Cast and great writing. I saw the original BBC “Life on Mars” and it’s been interesting comparing the two…Definitely not the same outcome at the end.

But I think very appropos for the the title and America….

I liked both for different reasons…It’s been great to compare what the images of UK and USA in 1970′s…Different but the same….

Anyways I guess the ending was the best given that ABC can’t give anything a chance to build a following or offer shows for us from those era’s since everything is about 18-49 Hello! Baby boomers watch TV too! So keep good shows and get rid of all this cheap Reality BS….Save the Air waves… or I guess I ‘ll have to keep adding more nights to Cable programs on the Cable networks…

Being a Louisiana cop in 2009 I enjoyed watching the “old school “ method of policing. I could relate to Supreme Court rulings that changed the way our business is conducted. Week end and week out I waited for the new episodes that always seem to keep me interested. When I missed one due to work it I watched on line on ABC.com. Good show, great cast, well put together and great talent in acting. The cast should be proud. They played cops well. I’m disappointed to see it go, but I’m still pouting over the ending of NYPD Blue.

I loved Life on Mars up until the last few minutes. I couldn’t believe that they took the “Dallas” way out and made everything a dream. What a lame way to end an otherwise incredible show. I would have preferred that they ended it with the episode in the bar where Sam seems to have come to terms with being in 1973 and he seems happy being there with his co-workers who have really become his family. Oh well, it’s over and done now. ABC, once again, had a probable hit on their hands and they just shot themselves in the foot by making the asinine decision to not only change its day, but put on hiatus for 6 weeks. No wonder ABC stinks!

Life On Mars was the best show on TV this season, combining great actors with an interesting plot that kept me guessing. In its brief time on ABC I could see the characters evolve, especially Michael Imperioli (Ray) and Harvey Keitel (Gene). They should work together forever. I only wish it would be Life On Mars. ABC did the same thing to Men In Trees: it started out promisingly, then they took it off for a while and when they brought it back the original momentum had died off. I will be the first to buy the Mars DVD set in September! And I’m already hooked on the BBC sequel “Ashes To Ashes!”

I was disappointed in the ending, it was too much like other shows in that past that had to have a “dream” explain away everything. I did think it was clever the way they worked in the Project Aries part. Aries being the Greek god and Mars being his Roman counterpart. Nice touch. The stories were great and the cast was superb. This show makes me kinda never wanting to watch any new network shows in the future. Premature cancellation will most likely be the result. Thanks for a great season to the writers and cast. Awesome job! ABC just sucks for their decision……

I was extremely dissapointed with the series finale. The whole show was centered around David Bowie….some of the episodes were titled with Bowie lyrics, and from what I can tell, they snuck at least one line from a song into each episode. While, the Elton John song they played is probably my favorite song of his, what a blown opportunity to use Moonage Daydream, Ziggy Stardust, anything, even Space Oddity as corny as it would have been would have been more appropriate. The ending also made the relationships built during the whole series (which I found suprisingly touching) petty and trivial. To me, it seemed like the last 10 minutes of the final episode were written by somebody entirely different than the rest of the season. The scene where Sam told his mom who he was was phenominally rewarding, then they flushed it straight down the crapper with that ending. Overall, a way better series than I thought it was going to be. I’m kind of glad it only lasted one season because I’m sure a second season would have strained my patience and made me care a lot less about all of the great characters. As a postscript, It’s probably too much to hope that Michael Imperioli could find himself with an Emmy nomination for his work…..he is great.

That ending came way out of left field for me. I was a little dissatisfied with it at first, but after a while, I realized it was an effective finale for me.

Final episode hasn’t shown in Australia yet (we are still half way of the series), but from what i read i prefer the British version because of its ambiguity (just my cup of tea).

I guess this ending suited more to the American viewers.

Sooo lemme get this straight.. this was Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Yet for some unknown reason, instead of playing Moonage Daydream or Starman, they played Elton John?? How can you pull everything together into one finale, base it on David Bowie’s breakout album and not play the album? I was left kind of pissed. It made no sense whatsoever. I wouldn’t have minded dream sequences from all members in stasis based on different albums of the time, or even ZS&TSFM, but where did EJ fit into this? It sucked, it was a complete waste.

The networks seem to have a problem with good drama series but I prefer a good short series to going too long with quality slipping.

Overall, I enjoyed LoM like a good novel – good stories; seventies cloths cars and music and great characters & cast.

The ending was a complete surprise but wrapped everything up – maybe a little too neatly but that could be because I did not want it to end.

Loved the show! I never missed an episode and it was one of the shows I looked forward to most every week. The finale was a bittersweet for me, but not a bad choice. I would have been satisfied with the finale ending with the ultimatum Det. Tyler gives about staying in 1973, but the Mars astronaut thing was alright too. Wish the show was going to be continuing. I loved the characters and their interaction. I’m sad to see it go.

ABC- Please reconcider and bring” Life on Mars” back!

I knew it would be short lived,especially in last weeks episode when the month was refered as October 1973. I actually thought Sam was going to jump to stay true to the UK version.

I prefer to think it was a hallucination, and that just like he did with the phone call, he simply decided to stay in 73. That would have been a simple, effective and amazing finale, but instead they stuck that crapload on the end like A dissconnected afterthought.

I was a big fan of the UK series Red Dwarf. One of my favorite Red Dwarf episodes was when the crew was revealed to have been in Virtual Reality since the series began, and the whole series premise was a computer game. So, the ending of this series was disappointing because it was in essence a copy of the Red Dwarf episode. I hope that was because one of the writers on LoM was originally one of the writers of the RD script. Otherwise, I’d seriously be looking to sue.

Yes, it did seem rushed, but rather than no closure, this seemed like a decent compromise.

I loved the ending, especially in lingth of the constraints the writers were under. It was enough of a twist that I didn’t expect it. And I thought it was sort of cool how the dates counted up at the end…

My wife and I enjoyed every episode of this show. The cast was terrific as were the plots. And the show finale was one of the best I have ever seen. I am still hoping some network sees the value in this show and brings it back. I am sure the writers can start the show on Mars and work their way back to 1973! Kudos to the writers, producers, actors, etc. on a job well done.

Loved the series and am sorry it ended. A nice entertaining crime drama. I think the ending was the best I have ever seen on any series. I don’t know why they cancelled it. Goodbye to all the stars. They were the best!! I never missed a program.

I just finished rewatching the last 3 episodes on my PC, trying to tie up all the clues. The one thing I cannot disagree with is how the “wrap-up” ending felt rushed, and a little too neat. However, I think part of that was the limited run of the show. IMO, if the show had run another season, or at least a “full” run of 22 shows or so, Sam and Annie’s kiss would have been the break-off point, where Sam decided to spend an extended period of time in 1973. [He had already told off the mysterious man on the phone, and had reconciled with his 125 crew.] Still open-ended, though, if we accept the “real” reality as 2035. Annie and Sam could continue, etc….

I am soo sorry that the show ended. I loved every minute and I am glad that they finally allowed for Sam and Annie to connect before pulling the plug. This was a great cast and a great idea. Though the ending did make sense, I would have loved to see Sam stay in 1973 for awhile. Ratings? I wonder where they get those ratings? Obviously they are not asking for my comments.

Life on Mars was a great show! Fantastic Cast! Fantastic Writing and a Fantastic Soundtrack! ABC did not want this show to succeed. the 3 month hiatus the time slot switch and the lack of good promotion was a recipe for cancellation. The finale was great! I’m really grateful they didn’t leave us viewers blowin in the wind

My family and I really loved this show. It had amazing stories. It took you to a place in the past when life was black or white and very little shades of gray. I loved Sam Tyler!! I really hope some other statiion realizes the potential to picking up this series. Let’s make the last show the nightmare that shouldn’t happen!!!!!!Please! there is very little on TV we like to watch. It really was a great weekly escape.

I DVR’d Life on Mars, each week, and just watched the final 3 episodes, last night! OMG!!!!

1. I have loved this show from the start, for it’s fantastic cast and its fresh storylines, that offered one twist after another;

2. I was sorely disappointed in what I thought was an entirely unimaginative ending. The only value it had to me was to give the clue that, “Oh, no! Is this over?”

3. Because LoM is normally such a quality show, I am truly unhappy it has been cancelled. I agree with “Steve” and hope the network will reconsider or another network will pick the show up. Thanks Life on Mars for a great 2 seasons!!!!

I was disappointed in the ending, but I am hopeful that another network will pick the show up. Thw writing was absolutely brilliant, finally a show that kept me on the edge of my chair! The show was put in a poor time slot and I have absolutely no doubt that marketed properly and in a different time spot, this show would have been a hit. There are over 15,000 signatures on the petition here at this site in protest to the cancellation. I am hoping that ABC reconsiders or another network picks it up.

It was a great show, no doubt. The ending wasn’t the greatest….let me be honest, it was crap. I was pissed for about 2 hours after watching it, but at least they left it open if they decided to revive it.
