We all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.
Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.
The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.
Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.
Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.
Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?
UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

I personally liked the show but have only seen the 1st episode. I think cancelling was a hasty decision and had been given a fighting chance, the show would have been a success.
Fox needs to give this show a real chance! Airing 2 episodes, both weeks having DWTS, Monday Night Football, and premiers of other shows – its logistically next to impossible to have better ratings than it did! Hopefully FOX will figure out that this show ROCKS and its a breath of fresh air for many viewers. Run 3 episodes, then re-run the first three (by then some of the sparkle will have dimmed for DWTS, so that those jumping on late will be caught up) and give Lone Star (and the viewers) a full season to see what happens with… Read more »
I was just getting into this show. I think if it was in a different time slot it would have found it place in TV land.
James Wolk was very good and I would have liked to see more.
Well I guess its about that old crumbled cookie.
I wish it was given a real chance. Look what it was up against, Dancing with and football. Please let all episodes air or better yet bring this show back.
please spell canceled correctly, I’m not trying to be rude…I’d send this privately if I could~ 🙂
@Katie: Both canceled and cancelled are correct spellings.
Cancelled is used in the US and worldwide. Canceled seems to be used only in the US.
That’s why I tape and never watch until a few episodes aired. Not worth starting a show and have it cancelled after 2 episodes. It can be heart breaking!
When I finally figured out what the show was going to be about it struck me that it seemed like it could have been called The Sawyer Chronicles (cuz the character was straight from LOST). I truly think its biggest hurdle in viewership was not its time slot, but its title. When I first saw the title I thought it’d be some Western thing like Deadwood. Maybe a show about a Texas sheriff. A better title might have given it a chance.
I didnt buy the lead actor as a conman, I think that was my problem. I was one of those people that put it on only to switch the channel. But it’s always sad to see a show get cancelled, and those involved with Lone Star have my sympathy.
good riddance now can get rid of event as well could only make 5 minutes of each show
No point in watching any new shows on Fox.
It’s always the same.
The problem is that this show competed against Dancing with the Stars, Two and a Half Men, Mike and Molly and the new series, Chase, so you tell me how this show can compete? I think this show should try another time slot/weekday or finish the series during the winter/summer break. Viewers would like to see the ending of the series before cancellation..it was done for FOX’s Prison Break and somewhat done for NBC’s Persons Unknown. LET’S WRAP UP THE SERIES WITH A SERIES FINALE…please?
It was too intelligent a show for the average American.
They want a cookie cutter show like “dancing with the stars”.
Too bad the s how had lots of promise.
After 2 episodes, this show was really starting to develop intrigue… why can’t it be scheduled against weak shows to start with and then after it develops interest, be moved. Give it a chance!
I wish I could say I’ m surprised.
why even make a show if there just gonna cancel it in 2 episodes they didnt even gift it much of a chance , and they talked bout how good it was to start out and some other shows debuted horribly in ratings and still lastings its ridicolous
