NEW YORK, NY (April 23, 2013) – MTV2 is continuing to strengthen its relationship with young music superstar Mac Miller with today’s greenlight announcement of a second season of “Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family.” On the heels of the highest rated original debut season in MTV2 history, the second season will go into production this summer to continue chronicling the adventures of Mac and his “Most Dope” family and premiere in early 2014.
In addition, MTV2 today announced that Mac Miller will host a special marathon of the entire first season of “Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family” on Wednesday, April 24 from 8:00 p.m. ET/PT to 11:00 p.m. ET/PT on MTV2. The marathon will conclude with Mac personally introducing the exclusive worldwide premiere of his new music video, S.D.S., from his upcoming album Watching Movies with the Sound Off.
“I have no idea what we are doing for season 2 yet, but I assure you that it will be awesome,” said Mac Miller.
He added about his new music video and album: “S.D.S. – no one will ever know the true meaning to this song which is awesome. It just feels good to have a song from the album out. The process is finally beginning. I forgot what it was like to put an album out. Shouts to lotus too man. That guy right there is important.”
“Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family” notched an impressive ratings run throughout the first season, improving its time period average by +13 percent among M18-24 (.69 vs. .61) and +19 percent among P2+ total viewers (299,000 vs. 252,000). During the season, the show ranked #1 in its time period among Male Teens for original cable series premieres and #3 among P12-34.
MTV has long been a supporter of Mac Miller dating back to March 2011 when the network named him as one of MTV’s annual “Artists to Watch” list. Throughout the past two years, Mac has appeared on many of MTV’s music properties and shows and made his mark as a PUSH (Play Until Someone Hears) artist in June 2011, featured performer on “Live in Chicago: Mac Miller” live stream that remains the highest traffic single-artist live stream, O Music Awards, mtvU Woodie Awards and the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards Tour. In addition, Mac shared his comic chops through appearances on MTV2’s comedic game-show series “Hip Hop Squares” and “The Dub Magazine Project,” and shared his life story in his own words on MTV’s recent series “This Is How I Made It.” Mac Miller’s debut album released in 2011, Blue Slide Park, made music history as the first independent album to hit #1 on the Billboard 200 top albums chart since the 1990s. To date, Mac has amassed over three million followers on Twitter and was crowned Complex Magazine’s “Man of Next Year” in December 2012, building anticipation for a huge 2013 for the emerging megastar.
MTV2 targets young men with smart, funny and relevant content, including comedic, music and action-oriented original programming such as “Guy Code,” “Mac Miller and The Most Dope Family,” “Nitro Circus Live,” ‘Hip Hop Squares,” the weekly hip hop show “The Week in Jams,” and the return of “Nick Cannon Presents Wild ‘N Out” this Summer.
