What’s This TV Show About?
A cooking competition series airing on the FOX television network, MasterChef features talented home cooks battling for the title, a cookbook deal, and the grand prize of $250,000.00. Joining chefs Gordon Ramsay and Christina Tosi on the season nine judging panel is chef and restaurateur Aarón Sánchez, who served as one of the guest judges, last season. In the ninth installment, in addition to the usual elimination, tag team, and restaurant takeover challenges, the contestants will also cook for 50 VIP guests to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Caesars Palace Las Vegas Hotel and Casino.
Season Eight Ratings
The eighth season of MasterChef is averaging a 1.03 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.53 million viewers. Compared to season seven, that’s down by 17% and down by 12%, respectively. Find out how MasterChef stacks up against the other FOX TV shows.
This show is such a tease. All that delicious food, and yet for eight seasons, there’s been nary a nibble for this hungry television vulture. Although its season eight premiere was down over last year’s debut, it is still too early to judge by the ratings whether MasterChef will be cancelled or renewed for a ninth season, so I’ll keep an eye on the Nielsens and update this page from time to time.
For now, let’s consider what we do know. Reality competition TV shows are less expensive to produce than scripted series, and this season will feature a challenge with Nutella as a product-placement. Additionally, although Ramsay chose to end Kitchen Nightmares after six seasons, the profoundly profane chef and FOX have had a long, profitable partnership, not just with this show, but also with the MasterChef Junior spinoff, Hell’s Kitchen, and the bi-annual Hotel Hell. What’s more, this season of MasterChef serves as the lead-in to his newest American TV series, The F Word. Unless the ratings really plummet, or the parties fail to agree on money, I expect FOX will renew MasterChef for a ninth season. Still, anything can happen, so subscribe for free updates on any MasterChef cancellation or renewal news.
