After a disappointing run last summer, FOX has quietly cancelled their Mental TV series.
Mental follows the work of an unorthodox psychiatrist who becomes the Director of Mental Health at a fictional Los Angeles hospital. Created by Dan LeVine and co-executive produced by his sister, Deborah Joy LeVine, the series stars Chris Vance, Annabella Sciorra, Derek Webster, Jacqueline McKenzie, Marisa Ramirez, Nicholas Gonzalez, Warren Kole, and Edwin Hodge.
The series debuted in late May with 5.8 million viewers and a 2.1/5 rating/share in the 18-49 demographic. Those numbers put the series in third place for the timeslot. The numbers fell significantly after that, and episodes sometimes attracted less than half of the viewers as the premiere.
Some of the Mental castmembers have already moved on to other TV projects. Vance has had a recurring role on USA’s Burn Notice.
Webster has been cast in an ABC drama pilot called Edgar Floats. He’ll reportedly be playing the therapist of the main character who’s a former police psychologist turned bounty hunter.
Meanwhile, Kole has been cast in a new CW pilot called Nomads, about four young friends who are backpacking across the world. To earn money, they agree to do secret missions for the CIA and Kole will play their handler.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mental won’t be back for season two?

I am very disappointed now. I have been looking forward to the second season for months. I hate it when good shows get canceled and yet we are still being subjected to endless seasons of reality shows!
I agree with you 100%. I’m so sick of Reality shows. I was looking forward to a second season of Mental and I’m sorely disappointed it won’t be returning. TV execs wouldn’t know a good show if it smacked them in the face

I am very sad and disappointed that show gave me hope i have been dealing with bipiloar for years and have been in and out of psych units and has stoped me from going back in hospitals and hope me to cope are there any other programs that could relate to this series is there a chance for a return i think this is sad i liked the way things were dealt with and i have used these copig skills in my life thanks alot to taking away something that helps people and gives hope.
My husband and I are very disappointed that I thought it was a good show.I thought it would be one of the top show.I really enjoy watching it.
very very disappointed i loved this show. I was really looking forward to it. Now what am i gonna watch during the summer.
I was furious when I figured out this show was canceled. HUGE HUGE Mistake.
Bring it Back!!!
I agree with Billie. This show was GREAT! Fox, you’re making a huge mistake. I hope another network picks it up.
I think the problem with good shows getting cancelled is the fact they don’t have a chance. I saw very little advertising for this show…except on the network. I wish Fox would give it another chance because they are starting to push out some good shows this past year and maybe people would stay tuned!!!
WOW….I HAVE BEEN ANXIOUSLY WAITING FOR IT TO START A NEW SEASON- NOW I AM VERY DISSAPPOINTED …BUT NOT SURPRISED SINCE GOOD PROGRAMMING SEEMS TO LOSE OUT TO RIDICULOUS/ REALITY SHOWS THAT MAKE ME WONDER ABOUT THE “MENTAL ” STATE OF THE NETWORKS AND THE AUDIENCES THEY ARE TRYING TO WIN-
I GUESS I AM NOT THEIR TARGET MARKET…AND AM GLAD FOR IT
*cries* i was so hoping this wasn’t true! i LOVE this show! why can’t another network just pick it up?
I loved that show !! I was looking forward to the next season….I’m kinda sad now.
I love this show. I am disappointed it has been canceled. Not so many good shows in the summer
Why are all the networks canceling so many shows? They start out really great, like Mental, then the network goes and cancels it. I really was hoping for a second season of Mental.
Why cant they renew it I loved it.
Great show. Fox tends to do this a lot though. Make a great show, but give it no advertising then blame it for failing. I personally didn’t watch Firefly either because I was too young or didn’t hear about it but it suffered the same fate from what I’ve heard. I’m just glad Fringe made it going on three seasons now.
This was a very good show and I hate to see that it has been cancelled. I must have a bad sense of what is a good TV show. A lot of the shows that I like seem to not be liked by the editors because they keep getting cancelled.
