Why is that every time we air a good show on TV it gets the boot? Merlin is an excellent show. I notice we tend to take shows made in Britain and use them here then we either trash the show quickly or just cancel them altogether. The way I figure it if you like good TV programing we should be able to get it. Variety is the spice of life guys, wake up and smell for once!!! Some of the shows on tv are so bogus and it’s people like us that are interest lies in stories such as Merlin were stuck having to watch series that we don’t like. It’s not fair especially when we have to pay for it just like everybody else.

I love this show. The storyline the characters and the acting. The quality is well above the normal SiFi standard. Great disappointment to lose this show.

BTW… Excalibur does not get placed in the stone until Aurthur in on the throne. And the background story of the Lady of the Lake I felt was brilliant. Now we know why she held the sword for Merlin AND how she became the Lady of the Lake.

that is all bullhockey….the show is great and cast perfectly…if anything there could be better characters…like lady of the lake, and excalibur could have been done better…it was suposed to be in a sone…not in the bottom of a lake…my point is that gwen is hott the way she is.

I love watching Merlin and think all of the characters have been cast perfectly except for Guinevere. She’s supposed to be so beautiful that all the men fall hopelessly in love with her but the Guinevere you’ve cast is not only unattractive, when she smiles, it’s downright scary. And her nose! What where you thinking when you hired her for the part? Lancelot is gorgeous, as he should be, but watching him kiss Guinevere makes the show unbelieveable. Change that one character to one that is as gorgeous as she’s supposed to be and your show will become more popular than it already is.

This show was wonderful and I’m disapointed to hear NBC won’t be bringing Season 2 (or Season 3). But… it’s not surprising seeing how many things NBC skrews up. They skrewed up the Leno thing…. and they show stupid shows like The Office. They choose to not show quality shows like Merlin! Go Figure! That’s why they are no longer the leader among the networks.

Another reason why NBC is where it is in station line up. Merlin was an excellent show, excellent acting, and with forward development could have been on TV for years considering the age of Merlin. Hopefully BBC will air here in the states.

I am very sad to hear that NBC will not be bringing back such an epic show such as Merlin. It is hard to find a well written, entertaining show; I always looked forward to Sunday nights to what Merlin would conjure up! I hope that another network will pick up Merlin or NBC will reconsider.

This show is a major treat. It was a must see for me. Supposedly NBC didn’t push it enough, and apparently the critical reaction – before it aired – was lukewarm. I can’t imagine why. It is excellently written, excellently acted, and a hoot. I badly want the second season.

Everyone should check the torrents, I see current episodes of season 2 just as recent as 4 days ago. So it seems at least we will get to see Season 2, I agree with the people here I think the show is a quality show that all ages can watch. I do like the history behind King Arthur, watching the earlier movies. Also the earlier tv show with Sam Neill in it Merlin’s Apprentice. It is annoying when they axe good television and put on main stream crap.

Who care who loses the most weight, 8 kids and 2 crazy parents, who has the most talent and all the other shows that are crap….I can’t believe that this was cancelled. It was a show that was actually worth watching I quess I will just have to get it on DVD to watch it, the way it is going I will not be watching any tv much anymore cuz there is nothing on worth watching……pathetic……….

I do believe Merlin has been canceled, because anything of any substance does not survive in this medium. We would all gather on Sunday evenings in the summer (ages 7-63) and watch the saga continue. My granddaughter especially, which is why I’m on this site trying to find out is I can get a DVD for a xmas present, instead I find out it is basically finished. I basically don’t watch NBC and this is why.

I did not know till now that Merlin was canceled until today and that makes me very upset. I support Merlin 100% but it is hard when sometimes people just can’t afford cable like myself. I pick the internet over cable at least than I can still watch all my favorite shows and it really sad when NBC is canceling all the shows that is interesting, magical, and lets people really use their minds again. I honest don’t care about the dating shows, who just might hook up with who and create drama everywhere or boring crap like that. I want to feel that I am part of the show something that will really make me laugh not because some moron is being stupid. Something that can make me cry and not because I am watching the most stupid thing that was ever put on t.v. I want that my selfish Arthur, my short-temped Uther, my brave Morgan, my smart Gaius, my kind-heart Gwen, and my clumsy Merlin back!

I know a lot of people were not aware of program and other famous shows such as star trek did not make very good ratings in the begining either, I would hate to think that this society has no sense of imagination left, since we keep seeing the same stories over and over again.

Why do they keep pushing these mindless reality shows at us and take away entertaining family shows that can encourage the imaginations of our youth. It’s a tragedy. It’s time to stand up for family entertainment once again. Bring back Merlin and other family shows – our society needs it.

Merlin is a show the whole family can watch and enjoy. Its entertaining. Who cares if its fact or fiction. If we wanted fiction or nonfiction we would read a book. Merlin was and is a great show. Who do you get your polls from certainly not the people who watch it. Instead you put on all these stupid reality shows, families could care less about. Bring back Merlin. It seems when someone gets interested in a show – it goes off and you make the decision to not bring it back.

This show would be a great addition to the ScyFy lineup especially since that network rarely if ever , with a few exceptions, has come up with anything even remotely as interesting or creative. It never ceases to amaze me that with all the resources at its disposal the ScyFy continues to produce mediocre to horrific products on a regular basis. It really can’t be that complicated pitching really creative shows or finding a decent creative group of writers and producers to spearhead them.Unfortunately, someone in charge has to be willing to see the value of a good story.This network attempts to offer an obviously growing audience something they can rarely find anywhere else. It is really tragic that they are missing a golden opportunity to both provide a much needed service and quite possible make money at the same time..What a concept!!!

As a 19 year old, I was really enjoying watching Merlin on sunday nights with my mother, to fill that awful television-Sunday-void. All of a sudden, once football season started, Merlin was just gone one Sunday without any notice of why/when/if it was coming back. Merlin was the only good original drama left, and now all we have is tired reality shows, police/law shows, and nurse/doctor “dramas.” Ya know, not everyone likes these things.

I always enjoyed the show but wondered why they would put it up against Sunday night lineup of 60 Minutes and than I realized it was just a summer stand in for NBC Sunday Night Football. Network executives have long shown an odd sense of values when it comes to placing a show. Right now NBC has five prime time slots a week for Jay Leno. When it comes to quality TV “Merlin” has quite an edge over most NBC faire. They should find a spot for the show on NBC period.

I just watched Season 2 Episode 1 from the comfort of my laptop, a day after it came out in the UK. I guess I don’t see it as that big a tragedy if a US network doesn’t pick it up, because it’s perfectly easy to come by it through other means.

I also happened to find Merlin on the internet and was delighted with the entire series I managed to view. I plan to buy the DVD when it is released in the U.S. so I may view the episodes I missed. NBC is missing a wonderful opportunity to present something that is just plain fun. Hopefully, it will be shown somewhere here. If not, maybe DVD season 2.

I agree. I love the show, but I can’t find season 2 anywhere on the internet. It’s so frustrating. It’s NBC’s fault the show isn’t super popular. I just happened to stumble across it one night, and I was like wow, this is actually really good. It’s frustrating that I can’t watch it on the BBC’s Merlin website. I really love this show and hope NBC brings it back. I love sci-fi and watch other tv shows like this and I love the movies like Harry Potter, so I would love to see the second season of this show. I have been watching the first season on the enternet just so I can watch. I would love to get the first season on DVD when it comes out.

The trailer looks amazing! NBC seriously needs to air season 2 of Merlin. It would have gotten much better ratings if they had promoted it more, kept it at a consistent time, and didn’t basically rush through the series in the middle of the summer randomly. They need to try it out at a consistent time…perhaps following a popular show if necessary…and widely advertise it! It is so good, and I know of many people in the US who would watch many more seasons. I think it should stay on NBC or get moved to Syfy or USA though…not BBC America because that is not as accessible of a channel.

The BBC channel on Cablevision doesn’t carry any of their good shows. I was dieing to see the 5-part Torchwood movie so I just found it online and watched it. I’ll do the same things with Merlin. The first season was brilliant. So smartly written, well acted and amazing production values for a weekly series. They must spend a fortune on costumes alone.

I’m not going to wait until someone decides to air it here or if they decide to release the DVDs here. If I knew NBC was bringing it back, I’d wait, but It starts in a few days so I’ll watch it on my computer.

It is no different than what NBC did with Life. I absolutely adored Life and watched it regularly. Last time I checked one of their late s2 episodes garnered 4.5 million viewers before Tivo’d returns were counted. But that was still somehow not enough to save the show.

My husband and I were both big fans of Life and Merlin. We didn’t miss a single episode of Merlin over the summer. I would gladly watch it on another NBC station…or BBCA.

It would seem to me that those of us who are in the USA that would love to see Merlin’s 2nd season need to start filling NBC’s e-mails or mailboxes asking for the return of the show. If enough people get on board, they might just listen. It is such a shame that most of the major networks in the USA are more for reality TV junk than for some wholesome drama shows. I totally and wholeheartedly agree with MK(@ #2). Because SyFy is a part of the entertainment conglomerate NBC Universal, transitioning Merlin to SyFy would appear to be an elegant solution. However, as we all know, television networks operate on the profit motive, rather than common sense rationality.

I agree with MK. NBC has other channels as options to put Merlin on. Sci-Fi would probably be the best bet in terms of a target audience, but there is also others like USA. They certainly had no problem switching Law and Order: Criminal Intent from NBC to USA a year or so back.

Or as suggested in the article, BBC America could work too.

There is also the option of getting a British TV Licence. Yes they have to pay for watching TV, It is about $300/yr

“why?” you ask…

Because if you do the BBC will allow you to stream BBC and other British Broadcasters shows, like Merlin, through their iPlayer service, so long as the makers of the show don’t object.

So it depends how bad you want your British Shows and what kind of Broadband Internet service you have.
