TNT recently wrapped the first season of Monday Mornings, their latest medical drama. Should it return for a second season or be cancelled instead?
Monday Mornings follows the lives of the talented yet flawed doctors at the Chelsea General Hospital in Portland, Oregon. The title refers to the tough peer review meetings that are run by the hospital’s sarcastic Chief of Staff. The cast includes Ving Rhames, Jamie Bamber, Jennifer Finnigan, Bill Irwin, Keong Sim, Sarayu Rao, Emily Swallow, and Alfred Molina.
The show started off the season with just 1.36 million viewers and a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That was less than half of what the Dallas premiere lead-in drew with 2.98 million and a 0.8 demo rating.
The numbers for Monday Mornings didn’t get much better as the weeks wore on. The season ended up averaging just 1.39 million viewers and a 0.3 in the demo.
Given these numbers, it seems highly unlikely that Monday Mornings will be back for a second season.
But what do you think? Would you like to see the show return for a second season or do you think it should be cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t catch on with a bigger audience? Was the title a problem? What would you have called it?
what a fantastic show!!! It’s right up there with other TNT offerings. The writing is excellent and the characters are truly entertaining! I can’t believe that more people are not watching this drama. I agree with a previous poster, TNT needs to do a better job of promoting this fine show. Please bring back this great show and not some mind numbing sitcom!!
I think it is a great program. The title is very misleading and may be the problem. More ads would help. Great staff of actors. Sure hope it comes back.
This is an excellent show that deserves not only another chance, but some decent promotional effort. The title does nothing to draw in the viewer, and the network does nothing by way of promoting a show with superior writers and cast. Perhaps too many people (especially a younger demographic?) prefer not to be challenged by a show which consistently raises questions about medical ethics which we should all be considering. So far no particular agenda has been crammed down the viewers’ throats; should this happen, I would cease to watch. The value of the program — and it is substantial… Read more »
Love this show! Monday Mornings is yet another twist on the ethics struggles in medicine… how hospital staffers are human and fallible, but always trying to do better even when they’ve been wrong (or wronged). Nothing is an exact science especially the human mind and heart!
I agree with the comments that say this show should be renewed if not by TNT then another network – it’s an excellent show with drama each week – NOT like all those reality shows on other networks!!
From the premiere showing, Monday Mornings has been a consistent favorite, one in which I look forward to watching every week. From the first it showed superlative casting, acting, and story lines. I don’t know if there was a problem as to the title or the time-slot, but it would be a shame for TNT not to give it a chance for a second season and beyond.
Bring the show back – it is very well done . Best show in a very long time.
This show is great. Better than all the situation comedy’s out there. Why not give it a chance and let people know it is out there. I will be disappointed if it does not come back. I am a senior and I really like the show, Why do you always rely on 18-49 year olds. We seniors probably watch more television than they do.
A GREAT Show! Please leave it on. Best show out in a long time. I am an older lady recovering from surgery and was so glad to find such a good show. We need it & more like it!!
I am terribly disappointed at the possibility of canceling Monday Mornings. It is an incredibly intriguing show and the writers most definitely are extremely creative. Love the diversity of the characters!! Please reconsider cancellation!!!!
I liked the show the time was kind of obscure but would like it to return. Great actors and story line.
I have really enjoyed watching Monday Mornings. I look forward to it every week!
This is one of the best shows on television today.
I do believe that the problem with it is the lack of advertising and it is on the wrong network. If this were on a major network it would quickly go to one of the most popular new shows.
Excellant writing and acting. Please bring this show back and do it justice by advertising it in a more effective way.
I hope it gets picked up for a second season – I’m hooked! Perfect mix between House and ER!
Great writing from David Kelly. Problem is name of show and channel no one can find.
This is the best medical show I have seen in years. The characters are interesting, the episodes are exciting , informative with a great mix of humor and drama. I hope they will keep this show going. It sure beats all the mindless reality shows out there right now. They need to advertise it more. Everyone I mentioned the show to had no idea it even existed.
