Moonlight: CBS Cancels Vampire Drama, No Season Two

MoonlightThough things were looking good for a second season of CBS’ vampire show, Moonlight has been cancelled. The show has loyal followers, the ratings were decent, and the series often won its timeslot. What happened?

Essentially Moonlight has been cut for a number of reasons. The rest of the network’s schedule is quite strong in the ratings and it certainly makes no sense to cancel one of the stronger series. If Moonlight were on the ratings-challenged CW, it certainly would have been renewed.

Like Jericho last season, Moonlight has a devout but small audience. Unfortunately, CBS’ decision to resurrect Jericho didn’t work out so well for them. Though many campaigned to get Jericho renewed, fewer people tuned in. CBS likely feels a bit burned by that experience and is reluctant to go down that road again.

The cancellation also stems from the fact that CBS is feeling very confident about their new batch of drama pilots. They’ve given a greenlight for four new dramas this fall and there just wasn’t any room left on the schedule for Moonlight. They know that Moonlight’s audience is unlikely to grow very much and would rather take a chance on a new show.

There’s been much upheaval behind-the-scenes and it’s been reported that the network hasn’t been impressed with the show’s creative development. The ratings were also usually lower than both its lead-in (Ghost Whisperer) and lead-out (Numb3rs).

CBS has given the okay for another season of The Unit. With the network’s full schedule, the drama will likely end up being bumped from Tuesdays and end up on Fridays in Moonlight’s old slot.

Moonlight’s series finale is set to air this Friday, May 16th. Stay tuned! TV Series Finale home page

Is there a petition to sign so that this show keeps rolling? Vampire TV Series and movies are in these days. Maybe if they enhance the entire thing and they verify the show before airing, the critics will shut up and stop being so annoying. Anyways, with some commercials of the show, there might be a chance of fan augmentation. Why not go for it?

My husband and I, watch alot of supernatural, T.V series, and this is by far one of the best i have seen, I do believe the ratings for the show, would sky rocket, if you gave it time to be aired to everyone. This is better than True Blood and Vampire Diarys, put together. Make another one!

This whole situation confused me. I never saw any advertisement for this show, I stumbled on it by accident. (It seems most people are in the same situation). I saw the second to last episode and immediately bought the series the next day, no second thought. I LOVED IT!! Not to much mushy love drama (Vampire diaries), Not to much sex (True Blood), and the perfect amount of substance. This show WILL hold its own if people could just be informed about it. It deserves a second season

i think if you bring it back now then there would be higher ratings than before im a big twilight fan….but when i saw this it blew me away….csi is still big and vampire shows and movies are whats on top now…and moonlight brings them together…the writers need to either get back together and go to a different station or stick with the same one either or they need a season 2….its too great to have just one season of!

What a shame that this series was not carried into a second season. I’d never caught the original showing, but caught a day of programming with all the episodes. I really enjoyed it and started reseaching where to find it for future episodes only to find out CBS had cancelled it. Figures. :( The only show I watch now on CBS is Miami CIS. Someone messed up letting this show go.

Im well bummed this hasnt got a second series coming.Im a an of Vampire Diaries(Hate twilight and all that),but this is good as well. I watched this when i lived in the UK a year ago,and when i moved to TX i forgot about it. Then one day when i was bored i was scrolling the tv,and what was on? Moonlight. I got really excited, I had found my show again! it is completely under advertised, they complain about not having ratings, but they WOULD have the ratings if the show was actually advertised. How can people be expected to watch a show they dont even know exists?
The advertisements werent brilliant in the UK either, but they had more than over here in the USA, i havent seen any adverts about it since i moved here.
Im extremely dissapointed there wont be a second season, i thought this show had a good structure, it wasnt overly romantic (twilight anyone?) and it was aimed at older teens/adults. To me twilight, the movies anyway, are more aimed at younger teens,like..ages 13-16. Whereas the likes of Vampire Diaries, Trublood(never seen it lol) and Moonlight, more aimed at us older teens and adults.
It would be good to have this show up again, i loved all the characters in it and the storyline.
