My Name Is Earl: TBS Not Buying Jason Lee Sitcom, Staying Cancelled

My Name Is EarlNews recently surfaced that, in light of NBC’s cancellation of My Name Is Earl, TBS was interested in picking up the show for 13 new episodes. The cable channel currently airs the first three seasons and is scheduled to add season four in the Fall.

Unfortunately, all sides weren’t able to come to an agreement so there won’t be a fifth season of the sitcom. The Hollywood Reporter reports that series creator Greg Garcia and producing studio 20th Century Fox TV decided not pursue the deal after looking at the necessary budget cuts. Meanwhile, the LA Times believes that TBS felt they wouldn’t be able to afford the show and cut the discussions short. Either way, the end result’s the same.

Yesterday, actor Ethan Suplee (Randy on Earl) indicated that the deal was still possible. On Twitter, he wrote, “I heard TBS MIGHT stand for TheBestStation.” Earlier today, he changed his tune and wrote, “TBS isn’t TheBestStation for reviving Earl. Good news is I’m now available to play Shia Laboof’s better looking brother in Transformers 3.”

A little while ago, 20th Century Fox TV issued a statement that said, “Greg Garcia’s brilliant My Name Is Earl kept America laughing for the past four seasons and certainly deserved to continue for many more.”

“While we had hoped to find a way to produce additional episodes for TBS, in the final analysis we simply could not make the economics work without seriously undermining the artistic integrity of the series. As none of us, Greg included, want the show to go out on anything but a high note, we regret that we must put to rest any speculation that Earl will continue.”

“We are grateful to everyone at TBS for their enthusiasm for the series and wish to offer our heartfelt thanks to the cast and crew of My Name Is Earl for their incredible work.”

So, the sitcom is apparently over. Unfortunately, the viewers have been left hanging. If you had your choice, how would you like to see the Earl story concluded?

What kind of NBC irresponsibility extreme leaves the final episode with “TO BE CONTINUED…” ????? This is simply unfair to the viewing public. We have been drawn in for FOUR YEARS to be left holding NO resolution whatsoever? Shame on NBC. I’m not a sitcom nut, never watched more than 2 episodes of Friends, Seinfeld or most of the others. Finally a sitcom comes along in “Earl” that not only entertains but spreads a moral message at the same time and they pull the plug without even ending the last episode? Wrong. Unfair. Irresponsible to the public. This and the many other mistakes made by NBC in the past are why ABC, CBS and even cable channels are more popular. NBC’s irresponsibility to the public goes back to at least 1969. Remember the following show narrative? “It’s FIVE year mission, to explore strange new worlds…etc” Yes, Star Trek !!! NBC told us week after week that it was a FIVE YEAR MISSION but canceled after only 3 years. Another paramount mistake by NBC. Star Trek went on to become the most respected and sought after Sci-Fi Series and franchise to date. NBC, to put this into Joe the plumber vernacular so perhaps you will finally get it. “Get your heads out of your asses” When you present a series at the very least, live up to your responsibilities, and dont cheap-out with a damned “To Be Continued” You OWE us at least a final show to sew up the loose ends and finish the episode you left us waiting for all these months. I believe I speak for practically everyone that visits this site. Can I get an AMEN?

Here is the my name is Earl ending.
Joy realizes that Dodge is actually Earls son while Earl Jr is the son of Darnell.

Earl settles in a home with Randy and gets a job. After finally finishing his list he is able to relax knowing karma is on his side.

Earl and Randy are togheter in bed and they have one last weird conversation, turn off the lights. ‘Credits Roll”

Ima miss My Name is Earl. It was the best sitcom ive seen in years

I agree with the earlier post “really? you cancel Earl but keep Parks and Recreation? The only reason I watch any of the other Thursday night lineup was because of Earl. I wont watch anymore.

My Name is Earl is the BEST show put on TV. Why do they always take off the really great shows and leave on the dumb ones? I hope they reconsider and put it back on. I LOVE that show and the world needs to laugh more. I am sick to death of “reality” shows. Get real; lets have some good old fashion humor that My Name is Earl is known for and loved. Let’s get it together TV land. I would rather go outside and watch my grass grow than watch TV now. I always looked forward to that show. Come on, guys and gals, get your head out of your backside and put this wonderful show back on.
