News recently surfaced that, in light of NBC’s cancellation of My Name Is Earl, TBS was interested in picking up the show for 13 new episodes. The cable channel currently airs the first three seasons and is scheduled to add season four in the Fall.
Unfortunately, all sides weren’t able to come to an agreement so there won’t be a fifth season of the sitcom. The Hollywood Reporter reports that series creator Greg Garcia and producing studio 20th Century Fox TV decided not pursue the deal after looking at the necessary budget cuts. Meanwhile, the LA Times believes that TBS felt they wouldn’t be able to afford the show and cut the discussions short. Either way, the end result’s the same.
Yesterday, actor Ethan Suplee (Randy on Earl) indicated that the deal was still possible. On Twitter, he wrote, “I heard TBS MIGHT stand for TheBestStation.” Earlier today, he changed his tune and wrote, “TBS isn’t TheBestStation for reviving Earl. Good news is I’m now available to play Shia Laboof’s better looking brother in Transformers 3.”
A little while ago, 20th Century Fox TV issued a statement that said, “Greg Garcia’s brilliant My Name Is Earl kept America laughing for the past four seasons and certainly deserved to continue for many more.”
“While we had hoped to find a way to produce additional episodes for TBS, in the final analysis we simply could not make the economics work without seriously undermining the artistic integrity of the series. As none of us, Greg included, want the show to go out on anything but a high note, we regret that we must put to rest any speculation that Earl will continue.”
“We are grateful to everyone at TBS for their enthusiasm for the series and wish to offer our heartfelt thanks to the cast and crew of My Name Is Earl for their incredible work.”
So, the sitcom is apparently over. Unfortunately, the viewers have been left hanging. If you had your choice, how would you like to see the Earl story concluded?

I can’t believe they would cancel this show!!! If I ever needed a laugh, I could count on an episode of Earl bringing me that. I guess maybe the idiots who made this choice didn’t have the sense to “get” the jokes. Earl we love you!!!!
This was the ONLY show I ever watched on NBC. The rest of their programming is mind-numbing drivel. Fox really dropped the ball by not picking up the show.
I wish they would atleast make up an end for the last episode from season 4, it would’ve been great!
This show should be allowed to finish properly, so we can see Earl in his big mansion with everything he has ever dreamed of! Canceling shows on cliffhangers should be made illegal because everybody wants to know!
Thats really stupid that they cant renew that show cause it was real funny and one of the only shows on tv that interest me. NBC makes stupid shit like Chuck, Parks And Recreation and just most their new stuff coming out cant beat great funny shows like The Office, My Name Is Earl or even 30 Rock. As for TBS not picking up My Names Earl for a 5th season can we really be surprised? TBS has only bad shows like My boys, Meet The Browns, House Of Paynes, 10 Items Or Less. ABC should pick up My Name Is Earl cause they have way better stuff anyways like The Big Bang Theory, Castle, How I Met Your Mother and even Two And A Half Men is ok.

I agree that there should be somthing to finish season 4 up! you cant just end it. even if its just two or three shows. I love My Name is Earl! its the only tv series that i actually watched beacuse its funny and people can relate. it also shows that people can change there lives. So, please think about it! let ther be a season five!
Why cancel EArl? There are plenty of other stupid shows that can be cancelled….pick one of them. EArl is such a pick me up, no matter how bad of a day I had, I can sit and watch EArl and still laugh!!! Seriously? They had I love Raymond on for 13 years…how much can you really do with a sports writer??? They found 13 years worth. Earl has a whole list, this show could easily go 13 years… Can we just enjoy simple pleasures in life? Leave Earl on!!!!!

My Name is Earl should have stayed! We never got to know what happens to Earl. And Fox should have picked it up they need another comedy. NBC canceled the good shows. I’d rather have MNIS and Medium over parks and rec. anyday.

there are so many shows on tv today that’s not even half as funny as this is.
I loved watching my name is earl, and there were many others who loved this show as I did.
so why in hell did NBC canceled this great show?

So NBC can bring back Southland, that made it thru what a half a season? BUT cancels a hilarious show that successfully lasted through 4 seasons? Maybe its time to stop watching NBC……
