Well, all successful shows go through this problem:
1. It’s popular.
2. Everyone in the show tries to cash in a-la NBC ‘Friends.’
3. The studio decides to rework the show or cancel it to save money.
4. Show is canceled, actors either let it go, or reduce their demands to keep it on the air.

No one will cancel a money-making show, unless they aren’t making money. The article itself said, “production costs” are keeping it off the air.

Hindsight is 20\20. They didn’t know the show would be canceled when they signed the last episode:”To Be Continued”. Season 5 epiode 1 was surely written. Just never shot.

i wouldnt want the show to conclude. why the hell dont these companies, producers, and etc. just get over the fact that they might not make as much money as they would have originally intended and just keep making the damn show. its not like they will be suffering anyways, i mean, if the cast had fun making the show, and the tv networks loved the viewings, why the hell care about an object (money) that means nothing in the end. i dont make even 10% of what these people make, but i damn sure put my money into buying the dvds and enjoying every episode that ive seen so far.

What kind of NBC irresponsibility extreme leaves the final episode with “TO BE CONTINUED…” ????? This is simply unfair to the viewing public. We have been drawn in for FOUR YEARS to be left holding NO resolution whatsoever? Shame on NBC. I’m not a sitcom nut, never watched more than 2 episodes of Friends, Seinfeld or most of the others. Finally a sitcom comes along in “Earl” that not only entertains but spreads a moral message at the same time and they pull the plug without even ending the last episode? Wrong. Unfair. Irresponsible to the public. This and the many other mistakes made by NBC in the past are why ABC, CBS and even cable channels are more popular. NBC’s irresponsibility to the public goes back to at least 1969. Remember the following show narrative? “It’s FIVE year mission, to explore strange new worlds…etc” Yes, Star Trek !!! NBC told us week after week that it was a FIVE YEAR MISSION but canceled after only 3 years. Another paramount mistake by NBC. Star Trek went on to become the most respected and sought after Sci-Fi Series and franchise to date. NBC, to put this into Joe the plumber vernacular so perhaps you will finally get it. “Get your heads out of your asses” When you present a series at the very least, live up to your responsibilities, and dont cheap-out with a damned “To Be Continued” You OWE us at least a final show to sew up the loose ends and finish the episode you left us waiting for all these months. I believe I speak for practically everyone that visits this site. Can I get an AMEN?

Earl settles in a home with Randy and gets a job. After finally finishing his list he is able to relax knowing karma is on his side.

Earl and Randy are togheter in bed and they have one last weird conversation, turn off the lights. ‘Credits Roll”

My Name is Earl is the BEST show put on TV. Why do they always take off the really great shows and leave on the dumb ones? I hope they reconsider and put it back on. I LOVE that show and the world needs to laugh more. I am sick to death of “reality” shows. Get real; lets have some good old fashion humor that My Name is Earl is known for and loved. Let’s get it together TV land. I would rather go outside and watch my grass grow than watch TV now. I always looked forward to that show. I agree with everyone and anyone who wants this show to continue. It’s a well written show with an actual plot to it. This is a real let down as I hardly even watch NBC anymore. Maybe if I’m lucky enough, someone who actually cares at NBC will this. I’m not writing this to be rude, just so you know when you carry a show for 4 seasons, there are fans of the show. People were watching it. Might not get the ratings you want, but there were some fans.

Soooo, this was the stupidest cancellation I’ve ever heard of. 4 people in my house came together each week to watch Earl, spanning a huge demographic from 19-48yrs old. Iit was the only show we all agreed on. To cancel a very good show and leave on reality tv?!?
Noone in my house watches reality tv. In fact, reality tv is like a dirty work in my community. Its worse than watching a soap opera. I don’t even know anyone who actually watches it.
I can’t believe they did this. There is nothing on NBC that we watch anymore.

I guess NBC is a one show channe now with “The Office” being their only saving grace right now. I’m sure they’ll up and do something stupid like cancel it after this season. I just found out Earl was cancelled! My birthday is today so with some of the money I got for my birthday earlier this week I ran out and bought the 4th season of Earl. I was very surprised to see “The Final Season” on the cover. Somehow I missed the announcement that they were cancelling it. I have a small child now and don’t watch a lot of tv, but thursday nights were my time to sit and watch Earl and The Office. I am so dissapointed that Earl is not on anymore!!! What a horrible decision by the network! Community was OK the first week, but why take something like Earl that had established an audience and replace it with a brand new show that may or may not survive? I don’t get it.

My Name Is Earl showed that Americans can write really clever comedy above the usual tripe that the networks produce. I am in Australia and the show is one of the funniest things on television and I will miss my weekly fix the show provides.

I was sad to here the news. It was a show that had a great cast and was alot of fun to watch. I have been buying the dvds Lately and was looking foward to the next season. It was one of the few shows i even liked anymore. I’m from arkansas and this show rang true to the type of humor i grew up with. Hopefully maybe a movie could be made to bring the show to a finale. I would love to see ethan and jason in a movie together again. They have a chemistry of brotherhood that i will miss seeing. Its always bad to leave the fans hanging. Alot of people are going to turn against these channels for the cancelation.

Okay so I am looking around trying to figure out when all the great shows come on and I am here reading this horrible news! I am completly shocked that a network would pass up the chance to have a sitcom that draws this much support. I can not believe that a show that has this type of following would be cancelled and leave the viewers with a cliffhanger. It is a seriously evil thing they have done and sadly I must say that NBC doesn’t really have that great of shows anyways so this was in my opinion their saving grace. Due to the cancellation I am not going to be watching that station. Not only because they let the only good sitcom they had fall the the side but because they will probably fill that time slot with some mediocare dribble of a show and leave even more of a bitter taste in my mouth. NBC You are the biggest bunch of trogladites the world have ever seen!!!!
