The once popular My Name Is Earl sitcom was cancelled last month. After four seasons on NBC, the show’s executive producer, Greg Garcia, was informed early in the morning, just 30 minutes before the news was given to the press.
While being dumped by the peacock network didn’t come as a huge surprise, Garcia wasn’t ready for the show to end. He told the LA Times, “There’s a lot of reasons the show would work well on another network, and I think we’d do very well with some promotion. We certainly feel like we have more stories to tell. That’s why we left the show on season four on a cliffhanger. And I know we’ve got at least another season in us and a lot of great ideas. So if another network wants to put us on, fantastic. Nothing that would make me happier.”
It was largely presumed that the FOX network would take on Earl since the sitcom’s produced by a sister company, 20th Century Fox Television. Execs at the network apparently downplayed the possibility and, when the time came, decided to pass.
Ethan Suplee, “Randy” on the show, broke the news to fans, writing, “Thanks for the effort guys, we appreciate it. It seems that Earl is actually dead. Fox has passed. The mustache will live on in our hearts.”
Now, TBS is apparently interested in keeping Earl going. The cable channel has been airing the show in syndication and expressed some interest in picking up the show at the May upfronts.
Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks, told Company Town that the network likes to develop original programming but that new episodes of an established show like Earl would be an asset in drawing viewers to sample them. At the time, Koonin hadn’t been approached by 20th Century Fox but said, “Tell them to give me a call. We’re in the book.”
The discussions for 13 new episodes of Earl are still in the early stages and there are a some major hurdles that would need to be overcome before they could become a reality. The actors and writers have all been released from their contracts and they’d have to be renegotiated. Also, the show is an expensive single-camera comedy and the overall budget would be an issue as well.
On the positive side however, the show is already in syndication and more episodes would mean additional rerun money for years to come. With that in mind, the studio and participating talent will likely want to make the deal work if at all possible.
While Earl’s return is still considered a longshot, the fact that there are discussions to revive the series is certainly a good sign. What do you think?

You would have to be a fool to cancel this show, someone needs to nut up and realize this show is how real life is, and if your life doesnt compare to any episode, well then your life is just too damn good, and fake. Well producers, beware of karma,do good things and good things happen, enjoy your ratings, NOT!!!
I just finished season 4 and it was great.I got at least 10 people watching this show it sucks that network don’t care fan base will leave us out in the cold like this.
I need to see part 2 of dodges dad please at least just gather the whole cast and crew again and make more episodes I think Jason lee is perfect for earl and is a good actress so he needs to stop making Alvin and the chipmunks movies and get back to earl I love the whole cast and crew and I think Jaime Presley is halarious so come on think about your fans and it can even teach kids a lesson while letting them have a good laugh once and a while I was very disappointed when there want a dodges dad part 2 no one really wants to see that Conan or malcom in the middle crap so please a least make one more episode so I can see who earl jrs dad is and what will earl do now that he knows his son is really dodge so just make more movies I have hard times at home sometimes but earl cheers me up you r awesome Jason lee so don’t quit on us now do it for all your fans
Bring Earl back I need to know what happens! Please.
YOU need to continue the show!
I guess the networks don’t like $ or care much about future franchising, DVD releases, Possible movies and its fan base which is growing more and more each day. It was lack of good advertisement that this show went unnoticed for so long. I have seen every episode and this show tought me a very good lesson to real life. There actually might be a karma and we should treat others as we would treat ourselves and learn from Earls mistakes. Ive actually caught myself trying to do the right thing more and more after viewing the program. I believe it would also be a good show for anyone. It teaches good morals an values and in the end sends a message. It can do all those things plus make me laugh and it makes me cheer up about my own misfortunes. Honestly you would be crazy NOT to put this back on the air and make more seasons. Anyone that viewed the show can tell you that it wouldn’t take too much of a budget to shoot more seasons of the program and keep audiences coming back for more. So without further a due……. I bid you farewell! P.S. Im working on my own list
Yeah, im from Germany and i love Earl. I saw the seasons on a channel in austria, because the shity channels in Ger dont get that this is funny. They broke Earl after 4 Episodes off. Now i still waiting that in the USA Earl be come alive and i mayby see the 5 seaaon in english. unfortunately in Ger the most people like soaps an crapy faked rwality shows ;( good stoff like : breaking bad, the sopranos dont get in the tv. I hope Earl comes back.
They can’t just leave it with that ending bring the show back dumbasses im sure it will get enough viewers plus earl is my favorite show.
plz put earl back on its hilarious………….i mean cmon me and my brother walk around saying bad boys bad boys……….who u gonna call its epic
I watched all the episodes on netflix, from episode one to the last episode of the last season. This is a fantastic show I have really enjoyed it. I really hope that it continues. That show had a lot of positive things to show. Please bring it back.
I to would very much like to see more of My Name Is Earl! I can’t belive they left it with such a cliffhanger I mean, between Earl Jr not being Crabman’s son, and Earl never finishing his list, I feel as though I too was robbed of a chance to see a proper ending of this “witty” series. Even if it was only one last season to wrap things up,My Name Is Earl should really be picked back up.
I use to stay up just to watch the reruns. Now that there is Netflix I watch my name is earl every day. It’s become part of my routine during the day. When I spend a LONG day at work, it’s nice to come home and watch an episode and bust up laughing every day. It was disappointing to be left on a cliff hanger of not knowing who Earl Jr’s daddy is! Very disappointing that there’s even a debate as to whether to bring it back. There are plenty of other shows that are a waste of money but this show was worth every dime! BRING BACK MY NAME IS EARL!
Hello… this is to whomever it may concern,
My wife and I love to watch this show and think that it should be given another chance on the air. It is a funny show that makes us laugh and also we think that it would do well for several more seasons. Please put it back on the air.
bring my name is earl it was a extrmemly funny show i liked it alot and i think it got alot of reviews please bring it back
I would like to see this show come bk on the air!!! Its a simple but complex funny show that touches closer to home than any other cr@p that is on! Its always the really good shows that get taken off the air bc some dushbag in a chair that can’t get with the times is the reason why! My Name is Earl, Farscape, & so forth. It needs to be back on the air, it could run sessions like southpark, i mean they are pushing 16!!!!! The My Name is Earl could stay on the air for a good several more sessions, I would say for a good 8 more or maybe even more if the cards are played write!!! BRING IT BACK!!!!!
