Nashville: Season One Ratings

Nashville ABC ratingsWill Nashville fare better in the ratings than ABC’s quickly cancelled Cop Rock series? The critics have sung this new show’s praises but we’ll have to wait to see if the viewers agree and if they’ll keep watching.

The first season of Nashville typically airs Wednesday nights at 10pm on the ABC network. The drama’s cast includes Connie Britton, Hayden Panettiere, Powers Boothe, Charles Esten, Eric Close, Clare Bowen, Jonathan Jackson, Sam Palladio, Robert Wisdom, and Judith Hoag.

Below are the TV show’s ratings for the 2012-13 season, the best way to tell if Nashville is going to be cancelled or renewed for a second season.

1.7 in the demo (+6% change) with 5.56 million (+3% change).
Season averages: 1.87 in the demo with 5.93 million.

UPDATE: ABC has renewed this show for a second season for 2013-14.

1.6 in the demo (-6% change) with 5.38 million (+2% change).
Season averages: 1.88 in the demo with 5.95 million.

2.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.93 million total viewers.
Season averages: 2.80 in the demo with 8.93 million.

Compared to last year’s Revenge premiere in the same timeslot, the network was down by 15% in the demo (vs a 3.3 rating) and down by 10% in viewership (vs 10.02 million). This wasn’t a terrible start but it’s not a great one either.

Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.

Nasville is the best show I’ve had the pleasure of watching in years! I love the character development and incredible talent we’ve heard from Connie Britton, Hayden Panieterre, and Claire Bonner! What a great spotlight for songwriters and all of the performers to showcase their work! I’d pay to attend a concert from these folks…or pay for a cable channel just to see this show! Please don’t cancel this great show…it’s an awesome tribute to our city and great music! Kaye Welch

I don’t understand why the most emphasis is place on ratings now-a-days with all these websites and applications like hulu. I may not watch this show during it’s timeslot, but it is one of the only shows I constantly check my hulu homepage to see if the new episode is up. The problem is that they are competing with shows like Smash and Glee. Well, those shows target people who are more likely to be at home watching as it comes out. While I like those shows, they are too whimsical and feel-good at times. Everyone has something work out, all the time. It seems like it is for a younger head in the clouds type of audience, not to mention the quality of original music isn’t even to be compared. I’m a gleek, and I love Smash. I will admitt, but this show inspires me to write good music, and to work through some of the tough times in life. The other two just make me want to sing and dance in my jammies. Big difference if you ask me. If they are smart they will pay more attention to their target audience, and not outdated ratings. They will put more effort into the crowd who downloads and streams, and they might be able to draw people from that crowd in to watching at the normal timeslot. That will improve their ratings.

Just don’t understand why so many reruns, especially when you advertise a new episode.
