The problem is that the cost of producing Leno vs the cost of produsing weekly one hour drama series is nothing. As a result, NBC can endure much lower ratings than a one hor drama and still turn a profit. It will only be when local NBC affiliates realize it is hurting the lead in to their late night, local news and that they are suffering that things will change. When the first NBC affiliates drop Leno for “Friends” and “Seinfeld” reruns, perhaps NBC will see the tragic mistake they’ve made in buying a pig in a poke with Leno.

JAY LENO IS THE PROBLEM!!! I enjoyed ‘shouting rude’ about this!!! I enjoyed law & order’ franchise series period! put jakkupp leno; latin translation; in the early morning slot with rest of the ‘duhzzzduhzzz’ talk shows. new names for networks: nbc nonsense broadcast company, abc asinine broadcast company, cbs carp broadcast company, fox flux broadcast company, debating to substitute ‘boredcast’!

90% of the problem is Jay Leno’s move to 10pm. The older audience for these kinds of shows are all going elsewhere because Leno has stolen their traditional time slot. In it’s effort to keep leno from jumping ship and competing against Conan in an ABC vehichle – NBC may have ruined it’s primetime schedule for seasons yet to come.

The audience for one hour dramas will look elsewhere because they have been burned by NBC. Such quality programs as “Life” and “Southland” getting unceremoniously canceled last season to make way for Jay – it leaves viewers with a bad taste in their mouths. Now a really good one hour drama – which should be a 10PM EST program is now airing at 8pm and is constantly preempted for nonsense. Amid a growing array of alternative cable programming, NBC has to wake up and follow the strategy it’s sister statio, USA, uses in running one hour, quality dramas and dramedies and to deliver them reliably.

I patently refuse to watch Jay Leno for his ego maniacal move to 10pm and taking “Life” off the air.

Goodness I finally found a show worth watching, Trauma, with an excellant believable cast. I have been looking for it for the last few weeks thinking things like the presidential address, football etc must have circumvented it o9nly to find it has been cancelled. It is becoming very depressing to watch TV as the only shows left are SVU, Law and Order (which sounds like it’s next) and NCIS which is becoming old and CSI which seems to be reproducing and taking over ALL the time slots. My last choice will be the Good Wife which is growing on me.

I absolutely hate Mercy as the two times I have watch I have found myself yawning and finding no affinity for any of the characters. The office, parks and rec I find useless time wasters and wonder why they are on tv. I agree with everyone else in that Jay Leno needs to be moved to a laetr time slot.

Your statement about Law & Order having poor ratings this year is false. It is running quite well given it’s Friday time slot, and the result has been a full season order instead of the original 16. Might want to recheck the facts on that one. It’s almost assured a 21st season, and I think it goes for longer than that. If not, TNT will pick it up in a New York minute, no pun intended.

I wasn’t sure about Community but now I love it. Well acted and funny people really need to give this a chance some shows you need to watch more than the pilot.

As for Mercy again love this show, great cast, interesting stories. Please do not cancel either of these shows. I’d rather lose something like Trauma and parks and recreation.

I’m a bit late here, but I’ve been searching the web to find out what has happened to Community. Amazingly, many comments reveal thinking it’s stupid. Maybe it’s stupid in the way that Arrested Development is stupid – ie. very, very funny. Hopefully I’ll find some good news in more recent posts. Thanks for the info.

Community, Parks & Recreation, and Mercy are all terrible shows and I for one can’t see any reason why anyone would enjoy those 3, for lack of a better word, shows. NBC is a train wreck. Leno has got to go, at least out of prime time. Losing Southland was a mistake. It was at least a different approach to an old format. Glad TNT has picked it up though. If not for The Office and Law & Order, which I think has been as good as ever, I have no reasons to watch. The whole network could disappear and no one would really notice or care.

I’m very surprised to see Trauma on NBC’s list of possible cancellation. Trauma has been one of the very few programs on lately that is edgy, action packed, and has a pretty decent cast. I’m hoping NBC sticks with it at least for a full season to see if people can get on board this great show. Mercy sucks! I’m shocked they’re keeping that show around. Lame acting, boring characters, and poor script writing. It puzzles me how they do these ratings and where they get their info from to determine which shows are good or not.

I don’t know how NBC could cancel a show like Trauma and keep Parks and Recreation… I live in Indiana and that was the sole reason I watched even one episode and it was AWFUL. I haven’t ever watched Community, bc it looked just as bad. The only shows I watch on NBC anymore are Heroes, Trauma, Mercy and Law and Order: SVU. They definately should get rid of Jay Leno. It would make room for shows like Southland to come back. Though I heard that Southland got picked up by TNT, so I’ll watch it there. If NBC cancels Heroes and Truama, I swear I won’t watch anything they air anymore.

Heroes is my favorite show on television and should not be cancelled by any means. I got into this show @ the beginning of Season 2 (writer’s strike season), nd 4 sum reason alot of “fans” stopped watching the show @ this point. I had bought the 1st season prior to the 2nd season starting and have been nothing but satisfied with it. I watch alot of television and movies (own about 500 dvds), and do realize shows don’t last 4ever but considering some of the crap that is put on television and doesn’t even last it’s full season, and Heroes clearly has a following, I think NBC needs 2 cut the BS and realize something successful in front of them when they have it. Because if not the Heroes time slot will just be taken by another show that will last 7-8 episodes.

NBC needs to at least let Law and Order get to 500 episodes then let them go, if they want comedy bring Monk back on there sister channel USA that is the only good show for there entire network for USA and its clean and funny and has a great storyline.

One word: JOURNEYMAN! Another GREAT show that NBC failed to keep. I have talked to so many people that wondered where that show went. NBC does DRAMA really really well. Comedy, outside of 30Rock and maybe the Office, is lost on NBC. In my opinion, NBC should stick with Trauma…it’s well done, well written and very well edited. It’s looked forward to in our house!

The only show worth watching on NBC will be “Chuck” when it returns. NBC needs to cancel “Leno” and invest in something other than redundant and worn out Law & Order clones and tired medical shows. Heroes has totally lost steam and become just another nighttime soap opera. It needs to up the action or go.

NBC should cancel Mercy and keep Trauma on. I love watching Trauma. First NBC cancels Southland and now they are canceling Trauma. It’s not right. NBC is not giving any of their shows a chance. Everytime I get hooked on a show, they cancel it. Pretty soon nothing will be on NBC but reality shows. If they keep canceling shows, they are going to lose their viewers or at least the majority of their viewers.

I don’t agree with basing everything on ratings. I think that stupid shows like Parks and Recreation, Community shoud have never been created Law and Order as well as Trama is really good shows. I think that NBC would do so much better if we could trust them not to cancel the good shows. I am really getting tired of watching shows on NBC and liking them the having NBC pull the rug out to go and cancel them.
