Numb3rs: CBS Cuts Season Order; Will it be Cancelled?

Numbers to be cancelled? While some shows are getting orders for additional episodes, Numb3rs has just had its number cut by CBS. How does this bode for the drama’s chances for a seventh season?

As Friday night viewers know, Numb3rs revolves around an FBI agent (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother (David Krumholtz) who helps solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.

The series is currently in its sixth season, having debuted in January 2005. For the show’s entire run, it’s been a staple of CBS’ Friday night schedule in the 10pm position.

In its first season, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the demo and 11.1 million viewers. In season two, the show’s ratings rose to an average rating of 3.3 and 11.7 million viewers. Overall viewership has dropped since then. Last season was watched by an average of 10.2 million and the demo was 2.2.

This season however has been a different story. Numb3rs’ numbers are way down. It’s fallen all the way down to a 1.7 rating in the all-important demo. Overall viewership has also dropped to an average of 7.9 million viewers.

If you look at these figures, it’s not hard to understand why CBS has decided to cut this season’s order from 22 to 16 episodes. In addition, the network already has a couple other dramas that can take its place, including Flashpoint — a show that’s cheaper and already proven to work on Friday nights.

TV show supportWhat does this mean for Numb3rs’ future and its chances for a seventh season? The episode cut doesn’t mean anything in itself but the ratings that caused it certainly do. The show is already in syndication and, now in its sixth year, the show is quite difficult to produce. Unless the ratings return to their previous level, the show will surely be cancelled.

What do you think? Would you be sorry to see the show cancelled or would you like to watch a seventh season?

If, indeed, Numb3rs is canceled, it would be too bad. I enjoy watching it.

Good Lord, this show has been an amazing anchor on Friday nights for a full 5 seasons, it runs into a little trouble spot and they want talk about cancelling it? That’s crazy. Come on CBS, this is one of the best shows you’ve ever aired. It’s entertaining and thought provoking, with such an original storyline. And the story hasn’t ended yet!! Rather than cancel it, why not push it the way you have NCIS? Put it in marathon syndication on USA or Bravo – remind fans who have fallen off what they loved about it while pulling in others who may have never experienced it before. I didn’t start watching until the 3rd season….and then I went out and bought 1 and 2 and have been completely hooked ever since. I just happened to walk in during the episode where Colby was being held on the freighter during the season finale – that whole scene where he was being interrogated got me and that was it. I became a Numb3rs fan forever more. Please don’t disappoint me, and the millions of others who adore this show by pulling it off the air!!! And while you’re at it……give us a little more Granger. Gotta love that guy!!!

I think it would be foolish to cancel this show. They already cancelled “THE UNIT”
which was ridiculous. It had a huge following. And I agree about Sophina Brown, she’s like a bad dream.. She acts just like she did in “Shark”/That tomboy attitude and voice… she’s half guy/half girl… ugh.. bring in Colby. And what happened to Amita… All of a sudden Charlie’s fiance` isn’t even mentioned?? that’s odd… am I behind somehow?

To my surprise the show was entertaining and clean, it is hard to find a show that you really can sit down and enjoy. I would love to see the show come back, I just started watching the show on netflix and I have turned alot of my friends on to it as well.

Numb3rs is the only show I make a point of seeing. It’s great to come home and actually have something I enjoy watching on Friday night.

This is my favorite show, if CBS cancels it then they would have succeeded in canceling the only show worth watching on CBS. The numbers do not necessarily mean anything (the viewer totals) because you have people like me who can not catch it on television Fridays (work 3rd shift) so I end up watching it online. Sometimes I use my DVR to record, all depends. The point is their viewer totals do not account for this kind of thing (online viewers..etc) and it literally is the only thing (or was) keeping CBS on the map for people like me.

Do not cancel this show, it gives us something to look for on friday, I hope CBS does not
become another NBC(Leno-O’Brian) mess. A lot of us older people love this show.

Please do not cancel this show! It is the greatest TV show. I am a high school math teacher and I love it as well as my students. It would be a shame to lose this connection we have developed. Every Monday we get to talk about Fridays episode
