NYC 22: Cancelled; No Season Two on CBS

no season 2 NYC 22 canceledThe rookies of NYC 22 won’t be honing their police skills on CBS much longer. The network has cancelled the cop series before the entire season has finished airing.

NYC 22 follows a half dozen police men and women as they learn the ropes in the Big Apple. The ensemble cast includes Adam Goldberg, Leelee Sobieski, Stark Sands, Judy Marte, Harold House Moore, Felix Solis, Tom Reed, and Terry Kinney.

Debuting on April 15th, in (now-cancelled) CSI: Miami’s former timeslot, NYC 22 attracted a disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.86 million viewers. The second episode dropped 7% and the third fell 14% more. Last Sunday night’s episode maintained a 1.2 in the demo and 6.87 million.

It was clear from the start that this new show was doomed to be cancelled.

The series currently averages a 1.3 rating in the all-important demo with 7.67 million viewers. On our CBS Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo performance of TV shows on the network, NYC 22 has an “F” grade. It’s the lowest-rated scripted show currently on the network.

The Tiffany network ordered 13 installments of NYC 22 and, for the foreseeable future, they’ll continue to air on Sunday nights.

What do you think? Are you going to miss NYC 22? Do you think it should have been renewed for season two?

Intelligent, gritty, funny: such a show should come with a network committment to a couple of seasons to give it a chance to build a following!

I love this show! I can’t believe it’s been cancelled. I was taping it at it’s regularly scheduled time, and then had to hunt it down to watch the other episodes. Saturday at midnight! This show deserves a better time slot. It is well written and well acted out. I thoroughly enjoy watching it and always look forward to the next episode.

Great show ! Who thinking it wouldn’t make it. Best since Hill Sreet Blues. Time to rethink and fire the person who thinks X-factor, Jersey Shore and garbage like that lives on.

CBS needs a reality check! The exec’s spot a good series, air it, get fans attached to characters and story line. Then they either play “find that show” with it or they yank it off the air completely. Then, just to add insult to injury, they replace it with another mindless reality show crawling with mindless automatons masquerading as people/characters! I, for one, will not be watching ANYTHING on CBS in the future! Thank goodness for TNT, TBS, A&E, etc! Goodbye network tv, hello entertainment!

I feel like that hungry starving dog on the streets who can’t seem to find anything to eat and then finally someone tosses me a juicy steak, I take one bite and WOW but then when I go to take a second bite… its yanked away from me and Im left wimpering down the street still starving.

What exactly do these networks want? What do they expect? Its summer time and a lot of people don’t even watch much tv cause their busy doing a lot of family stuff. This show barely got any publicity before it was just tossed out there. Why don’t they just give it more time for goodness sakes? Im so sick of garbage tv and then time after time they finally put out something worth watching and just as Im settling in expecting the show to last quite a few seasons… boom! Cancelled!

Then they wonder why their ratings do so poorly. Are they honestly that stupid they don’t realize that when they do crap like this over and over again, that we learn from our mistakes and end up refusing to watch new shows right away because we fear exactly whats happened here yet again? I should have learned my lesson but didn’t… but I sure will now. Now Im going back to not watching any new series until it ends up getting a second season.

And ya know… maybe the networks should get into a habit of putting out a new series under the premise that only X amount of shows will be produce for the first season and then after X amount, if still falls under their stricter then hell guidelines for being a worthy show… then let it break for a few months and come back as Season 2.

Exactly my feelings.
Detroit 187 was exactly the same way. Great show, but in this ADD environment the youngin’ don;t have any attention span.

Believe it or not, I just found the show tonight. I surf all the time and this is the first time that I have seen NYC 22 on the channel guide or ever heard of it. I enjoyed the show that I saw and taped and watched the next one. I had planned to watch the show from now on. I decided to search and found that it has been cancelled. I guess the suits prefer silly so called reality shows and cop shows with the usual formula. This show is different the perps have back stories that show how they got to the point of breaking the law.

Just found this show today -great show- well written and well acted. Of coarse it should be cancelled. This is why I don’t watch much network TV. I like cable stations better. Shows are better written and more enjoyable. And when the network does slip and air an exceptional show- they end up cancelling it! They put it on an off time or give it limited promo and little time to get a following.
CBS- you suck. This is a great show – you just can’t see a good thing when you have it.
