In August of last year, Starz renewed Outlander for a second season after only one episode of the series had aired. Now, there are rumors that season two has been cancelled. What’s going on?
The Outlander series revolves around Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a married combat nurse from 1945. She finds herself mysteriously thrown back in time, to 1743 Scotland, and forced to marry another man to save her life. A passionate affair is ignited. The rest of the cast includes Sam Heughan, Tobias Menzies, Graham McTavish, Gary Lewis, Annette Badland, Stephen Walters, Laura Donnelly, Lotte Verbeek, James Fleet, Duncan Lacroix, Roderick Gilkison, Simon Callow, Grant O’Rourke, Bill Paterson, and Simon Meacock.
As fans of the series know all too well, Outlander is currently on hiatus. Starz decided to split the first season’s 16 episodes into two groups. The first eight finished airing in late September and the second set will begin running on April 4th. It’s a long wait but the Outlander TV show will certainly be back.
While the show doesn’t draw big ratings, it’s doing very well for Starz. The audience grew quite a bit over the course of the first eight episodes. The mid-season finale drew 1.42 million viewers — nearly twice as many as watched the series debut. Networks and cable channels really like to see that kind of trend.
It seems that the cancellation rumor stems from a site called National Report which creates fictional stories with just enough credible information in them to make them believeable.
Starz has not cancelled their plans for a second season of Outlander. The cable channel is heavily promoting the second half of the first season and Outlander author Diana Gabaldon has also confirmed that the cancellation is a hoax.
This month, executive producer Ronald D. Moore confirmed that filming of season two will begin in May. The story will take some of the characters to another country but production will continue to be based in Scotland.
Here’s a preview for the rest of season one, as well as a preview scene:
What do you think? Are you looking forward to the return of Outlander?
I am an avid fan of the show — how dare someone try and claim it is to be canncelled!!
I have read all the books and the producers are doing a wonderful job and the cast is supurb.
Keep it coming!!
HH
Absolutely love the series and can’t wait for each segment to air. My wife and I would watch an episode a night if it were available! For any execs reading, this is one of, if not the best on television so keep those renewals coming!
love this show….Jamie and Claire are the best ..this show is the best. Thanks for letting me binge on last weekend. perfect!!!
The village you saw in series one is the actual village I live in I watched some of the filming it was wonderful to watch , looking forward to series two
addicted to the books and series. It’s a good thing I’m Retired! There is nothing new to say about Sam Heugan. He IS Jamie! He has the most expressive eyes. They can change from anger, to tenderness in a second. I can only hope that Starz will continue the series to the final book.
Please change the headline of this article. It leads a lot of people to think the show has been cancelled, which is definitely not the case.
I hope that the next season will go into production as soon as possible. At the age of 84 I might not live long enough to see the end of it.
After having read all the books, I think that the powers in charge might consider speeding up the process a bit. The empty period in between is too long.
The show is very well done, and a joy to watch after one has been so miserably treated by net work t.v.
Thank you for bringing the name of entertainment back into focus.
Great job,
I LOVE THE SHOW AND WILL BE SAD IF THEY DON’T CONTINUE THE SERIES. i LOVE THE CHARACTERS AND LOVE THE CLOTHING AND LANDSCAPES OF sCOTLAND ARE GORGEOUS!
I read all the books several years ago and fell in love with Jamie then. Sam is the perfect Jamie.
My husband and I love this series. The acting is amazing. We so love all rhe characters. The setting and scenery are incredible. We were not familiar with the books prior to discovering the show on Starz, but they are all now on my reading list. Please keep it going Starz!
Love the show the last two episodes were terrific and I would like to see the series run through at least season 3, the end of the third book, Voyager. Some of the best acting Ive seen on television. I think the cable channels are the best places to watch TV. HBO, STARZ and Public TV in my mind far out shine the networks. PLEASE DON’T CANCEL ONE OF MY FAVORITE SHOWS!
The actors chosen for the Outlander series have brought the characters in the books by Diana Gabaldon to life. It is superbly acted by all. Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe are
Jamie and Claire . I’m looking forward to the start of Season 2. I hope that the show gets
mentioned for an emmy award. It is the best show on television.
Dear Outlander Execs You need to know how much my friends and I love this series. I have my friends at work watching it and friends and I discuss it with the book. I am a pretty academic person so that is why I love the scenes, the travel, the story and the characters. Like most I have been enthralled with Scotland. I hope to go this year. I have been to Ireland. I can watch the same episode every night and find something new. I don’t watch regular television except for the news and Jon Stewart. This is a… Read more »

You Can watch the whole first 9 episodes by going to Amazon and looking for Outlander DVD. I watch the episodes, but I ordered the dvd too.
I HAVE to have my daily dose of Jamie. I’m 76 years old, and I’m totally in love with him!!!!!! My husband of 52 years was a red headed Scot too.
As of today, there are just 2 episodes left of season 2. Haven’t heard anything about there being a season 3. Can someone tell me.
What we’re seeing now is the second half of Season 1 – Season 2 with 16 more episodes have been ordered and are being produced now, don’t know when they will start, but hopefully Starz won’t separate the first 8 from the second 8 by 5 months like they did with Season 1. Hope this makes sense.
I believe it is 13 episodes for Season 2. Boy, I’d love to be wrong, though. I too am interested in when the show will be renewed for a Season 3.
