Aye, Sassenach, ’tis true. The second season finale of the Outlander TV show on Starz has been extended from 60 to 90 minutes. With Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) back in Scotland, too much happens in “Dragonfly in Amber,” to squeeze into a wee hour, ya ken?
The Outlander season two finale introduces the characters Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger Wakefield (Richard Rankin). Prior to “Dragonfly in Amber,” Starz will run a marathon of the first 12 episode of the current, second season, starting Saturday, July 2, 2016, at 12:00pm ET/PT. The episode takes its title from the second volume in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander book series, Dragonfly in Amber.
Readers know Brianna is Claire and Jamie’s daughter, while Roger is the adopted son of the Reverend Wakefield. Brianna and Roger get to know each other, when Claire takes her adult daughter to Scotland, in an effort to come to terms with the past. Suffice it to say, Brianna’s life is profoundly affected by the trip.

EPISODE 213: “Dragonfly in Amber”
Flashing forward to 1968, Claire travels to Scotland with her twenty-year-old daughter, Brianna, and meets Roger Wakefield. Claire visits Lallybroch and Culloden Moor to make peace with the past, while Brianna and Roger bond over researching Randall family history. Claire finally reveals the truth to Brianna about her time travel through the stones, her life in 1700’s Scotland, and Brianna’s true parentage. The story is intercut with another one back in the 18th century, which happens on the day of the Battle of Culloden. When Jamie’s last ditch attempts to deter The Prince fail, he and Claire come up with a dangerous plan – which Dougal overhears, inciting him to a murderous rage. Jamie must do everything he can to save the ones he loves, even if it means saying goodbye to some – or all –of them.
Book Two of “Outlander” begins as Claire and Jamie arrive in France, hell-bent on infiltrating the Jacobite rebellion led by Prince Charles Stuart, and stopping the battle of Culloden. With the help of his cousin Jared, a local wine merchant, Jamie and Claire are thrown into the lavish world of French society, where intrigue and parties are abundant, but political gain proves far less fruitful. Altering the course of history presents challenges that begin to weigh on the very fabric of their relationship. However, armed with the knowledge of what lies ahead, Claire and Jamie must race to prevent a doomed Highland uprising and the extinction of Scottish life as they know it.
Diana Gabaldon’s eight-book series has sold more than 26 million copies worldwide and all eight books in the series have graced the New York Times best-sellers list.
Ronald D. Moore, Jim Kohlberg, Andy Harries, Maril Davis, Ira Steven Behr, Toni Graphia and Anne Kenney serve as executive producers of “Outlander,” which is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining & Supply Company and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television.
