TV show description:
This fantasy-dramatic TV show is based on the series of Outlander novels by Diana Gabaldon and takes place in both the 1940s and the 1740s.
Quick-witted and beautiful Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) is a married combat nurse from 1945 who finds herself mysteriously thrown back in time to 1743 Scotland. Claire and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, are forced to marry to save her life. A passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.
Jamie is intelligent, principled, and (by 18th century standards) educated, and worldly. He has a tenderness and compassion that stands out in contrast to his contemporaries. A natural leader of men, he has no political ambitions or desire for battlefield glories. Instead, he wishes to remove the price on his head and return to his family’s ancestral farm.
Claire’s husband in her home time period is Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies), an intellectual and an academic. He served in British Intelligence section MI6 during the war as a spymaster, and was responsible for sending men on dangerous missions — some of whom never returned. With the war now over, he’s looking forward to a new career as a historian at Oxford when his wife mysteriously disappears in the Highlands.
Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) is a Captain in the English Army back in 1743 who has been posted in Scotland during a time when rebellion is in the air. As an officer in an occupying army, he’s seen and done terrible and horrific things in the undeclared war in the Highlands. He’s also a sadist who finds joy in the torment of others — a secret side to himself that he loathes and also has an unhealthy obsession with both Claire and Jamie.
A skilled and experienced warrior, Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish) is the War Chieftain of Clan MacKenzie. His older brother Colum is the ruling Laird, but Dougal is his loyal right hand and the true muscle. He is courageous on the battlefield and is feared by many.
The Laird of the MacKenzie clan is Colum MacKenzie (Gary Lewis), Jamie’s maternal uncle and brother to Dougal. Colum suffers from Toulouse-Lautrec Syndrome, a degenerative disease that renders his legs immobile at times, and fills his days with a great amount of pain. Unable to rule by brawn, he must rely on his cunning and intellect to lead his clan.
Mysterious and dark, Murtagh Fitzgibbons (Duncan Lacroix) dutifully watches over his godson Jamie. Although a reserved man, he’s a very loyal godfather, and lives his life by a strict a code. And he’s more than happy to let his reputation and fists do the talking.
The wife of the procurator fiscal and a good friend to Claire, Geillis Duncan (Lotte Verbeek) has such advanced knowledge of herbs and plants that many believe she is a witch. Geillis is a master manipulator.

What do you think? Do you like the Outlander TV show? Do you think it should be ending or renewed for a ninth season?
I thank it should be renewed . love the show so mush.
Well here we go canceling out another series after you all get us hooked on it , just because we’re not all texting and posting on your pages : sick and tired of this , I am no longer going to start watching anything unless it has 6 or more seasons to it !!!!
Love the books, absolutely LOVE the characters and the show. Only reason I have STARZ or Amazon Prime. They will loose alot of following if they cancel the show. Beautifully well done!
read the books, and so enjoying the characters coming a live in a series but the wait is so long between. please keep the show going
I love the show and can’t wait for it to come on again. Please renew !!!
I love the show but it too bad that Tobias, who is the most talented of the group, never gets the praise he deserves.
I enjoy the show. It is sad though that Tobias, who is the most talented of the group, never gets the praises he deserves.
Love Outlander! Best actors ever. Keep it going please 🙂
LOVE EVERTHING, especially JAIME & CLARE, about this series!! The locations, especially Scotland, the castles, buildings, interiors, sets, the music, the costumes and colors, the photography, the writing, especially the 18th century, all the historical details and most, ALL the actors. THE BEST, EVER! NONE better. NEEDS to be seen. Please don’t stop… I continue to replay season 1 & 2 dvds until season 3 premiers and I still see or hear something I’ve missed before. A note to Diana, THANK YOU to what u imagined & created! But PLEASE don’t KILL or die off Jaime & Clare. It would… Read more »
Please continue with many, many more seasons. We ( my friends) adore this show. Its storyline, acting, set design is just so beautifully done. Its been awesome to watch this show with my friends as we have viewing parties each week. I heard a rumor that its being cancelled and that producers are going to kill off the main characters’ within this show, reading this online just makes my heart break and my mind shutter at that possibility. Please don’t end this show, like so many others I loved that had that awesome power of holding your hand and taking… Read more »
Please continue this creative show for many more years, it has been too long between seasons! The plot can go in limitless directions! Don’t make the same mistake NBC did with the original Star Trek that aired only 3 seasons, 1966-1969 ahead of its time leaving audiences frustrated and longing for more. Outlander is unique with historical fiction in time periods that provide endless plots. Love the exceptional costumes and scenery. Thank you.
We absolutely love this show, the acting is the best and so is the story! Please keep it going for as long as possible! Thank you.
I absolutely love this show. Outlander is the best series I have ever watched. I love the scenery, costumes, actors and everything about the series. Please don’t end this, find a way to keep it going. The story has to continue. I’m looking forward to it coming back on TV.
I bought the first and second season. I have watched at least twice. I love the scenery, the costumes, and the actors! Outlander is the best thing to happen to Scotland since kilts. I know season three must be incredibly expensive to produce, but I hope it doesn’t prohibit the producers from continuing the series. It is the best tv since Thornbirds!
IMHO this is the Very Best series to ever be on TV. Can’t say enough about the amazing cast & acting, bringing Diana Gabaldon’s books to life. I originally missed the first few episodes as, at the time, did not know of the series…(I don’t know where I had been – but so glad I found it). However when I finally caught one (about four episodes in to Season 1)…I WAS HOOKED. Got the first book from the local library (after having to be on a rather long wait list) and again…HOOKED. Have managed to get my hands on the… Read more »
