Outlaw: NBC Shuts Down New Series; Cancelled Next?

OutlawAfter some very lackluster ratings, NBC is shutting down production on Outlaw. Is it the next to be cancelled?

The Outlaw TV show follows the crusades of a Supreme Court Justice (Jimmy Smits) who decides to step down and go back to being a lawyer to fight injustices. The NBC series also stars Carly Pope, David Ramsey, Jesse Bradford, and Ellen Woglom.

Outlaw debuted via a special preview on Wednesday September 15th, following the season finale of America’s Got Talent. The series premiere was reasonably sampled with a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 10.68 million viewers.

In its regular timeslot a week and two days later, episode two attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.89 million total viewers. Last Friday, Outlaw garnered only a 1.0 rating and 4.72. Though expectations are lower on Friday nights, this performance is terrible.

TV show supportNBC has now shut down production of the series while execs mull over how to proceed. They supposedly want to see how the series performs over the next couple weeks but there’s no reason to expect that the numbers will get any better.

Eight episodes of Outlaw have been produced and five haven’t aired yet. While it seems likely that NBC will air them all at some point, it seems even more likely that Outlaw will be cancelled soon.

What do you think? Do you watch Outlaw on NBC? Do you think the show could be saved? What would you change?

This is a great show! It’s unbelievable to me that people wouldn’t watch it! Jimmy Smits and his other folks are doing a great job. I guess the majority of Americans want to see reality shows which are truly an insult to someone of even average intelligence! Apparently everyone is losing their grip on reality by watching a continuous stream of crap that is being dubbed reality!

I love, love, love this show. I was telling people recently that it was one of the best shows of the fall season. They had not seen it yet, do you know why . . . because they didn’t know when it was on. Get it into a time slot and let people know. I am certain that the ratings will pick up.
Please do nto cancel this show leaving nothing else but reality TV!!

A better show comes along and they cancel. I guess they think we need another CSI which are getting so old that they are turning me off of TV. Maybe it is time to get a book!!!!!

Airing only three episodes and NBC decides to cancel Outlaw?
Intelligent show, great acting, and Jimmy Smits!! With less than mediocre
programming on network TV, finally a show w/ substance and NBC is cancelling?
I vote to keep it. Perhaps do a better job promoting the show.

Outlaw is a GREAT show. Why do networks always want to cancel the good ones. The show Cane with Jimmy Smits was another good show that got cancelled during the writers strike a couple of years back. Please keep Outlaw on, it’s one of the last remaining great dramas left on TV.

I cannot believe they are cancelling Outlaw..I love the show and Jimmy Smits..Maybe you should try giving it another time slot..Friday night is a horrible night for TV…I have talked to several people that also feel the show would do better at another time. Please don’t take it off the air!!!!!

I have been looking forward to seeing Jimmy Smitts on another show. He was great in CANE that also got cancelled for no damn reason! Why do you do this to viewers that really love this actor???? I agree that there’s too many reality shows that are dumb, indecent, immoral, disrespectful and disgusting. I’m never going to watch anything on channel 22 if you don’t put this show back on. Do what the people want and stop acting like a politician for GOD sake.

I love this show….I love Jimmy Smits…..I’m very critical and have no problems with the show….think it’s great….one of my other favorites is “The Good Wife”, so I do know what’s good and what’s bad….I think it had a tough time slot…..and by the way, Blue Blood, was boring up until this weeks episode….but I had nothing else to watch because THE OUTLAW wasn’t on….
