It’s no secret that Pan Am has been struggling in the ratings. As a result, ABC decided to order only one episode beyond their initial 13 installment order.
Pan Am is currently one of ABC’s lowest-rated shows and currently averages a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.76 million total viewers. That’s the same as now-cancelled Work It. The most recent episodes have been garnering a 1.2 in the demo, ensuring that the season average will keep dropping.
ABC maintains that the show has not been cancelled and Christina Ricci, the actress who plays Maggie the flight attendant, maintains that a decision won’t be made until May.
In a recent press call, she said, “I don’t really understand the ratings system and how that works or, I choose not to… If I go shopping, the people who work in the stores love the show. When I fly, all the flight attendants love the show. I know friends and family love the show. Most of them didn’t watch it during its time slot. Most of them watched it online or TiVo’d.”
Ricci doesn’t understand why Pan Am’s numbers aren’t better, but said, “I just feel like more and more people towards the end of the season are getting really into it and really saying that every show is better than the last. And that’s good, because you really want a show to have time for development and develop into something really amazing.”
There was hope that the 14th episode would be used to give the ongoing storylines some closure but Ricci says that’s not the case, “If there isn’t a season two, there will be questions that will never, ever, ever be answered.” She concluded, “But, hopefully we will get a season two and no one will know that until May.”
What do you think? Do you think Pan Am producers should have planned to end the show with episode 14 or, leave things unresolved in hopes of a second season?

Pan Am is a well written and acted show. Please give it a chance abc!
Just when we get to really enjoying a great series, ABC considers cancelling it. I guess PAN AM will go the same way ‘Detroit 187’ did.
Please keep PAN AM on the air . I TiVo the show and have watched every episode. Last week’s show seems to gave been out of sequence. We learned about the shooting of the nude photos . The previous episode already had them on display in a Greenwich Village gallery. Do the rest Of you agree?? This is the only television show since MAD MEN that has hooked me. Guess I’m not in the target demographic.
Please keep Pan Am on!! It’s a fabulous show! The cast is very well put together and all wonderful! It’s very rare you find a show now and agree ( like ) the entire cast! I, like some of the other people who have commented, use my DVR and watch the recording at a time that works for me.. I know you guys look at numbers but it’s so easy now a days to just program our favorite shows and watch them later, please don’t cancel Pan Am, it really is a great show, love it!
Absolutely love this show! The storyline includes every aspect you would want in a series, love, laughter and intrigue. It entertains many ages and I have a huge friend base that would be outraged if it was cancelled!!
PAN AM is THE BEST show on primetime! So well acted and filmed to perfection.
What a shame if it is canceled. If that is the case, hopefully, it will be picked up by a cable network.
I absolutely love the show! After seeing this weeks episode and next weeks previews for the season finale, it makes me upset that there could possibly be no season two
I seen every episode. It’s fantastic! Half during it’s time slot and the other half on demand from my cable network. It’s a busier world we live in. We just can’t sit and watch TV in out spare time as routinely as previous generations simply because we haven’t got as much spare time. The rating system is so archaic and inaccurate covering such a miniscule part of the country’s viewing demographic. No one should base their decisions on their survey data. Lesser shows have survived! This show makes ABC look good and helps prevent turning any more Americans to reality… Read more »
Pan Am is the best new show this year. Great cast, cool story lines. Makes you look forward to the next week’s episode. Hope it stays around!!
I really love the show. I hope they give it a second season or at the very least, if they do decide to cancel, film an episode 14 and give us some closure, it is only fair, the fans have invested in this show and the great characters that the writers have done an amazing job developing.
I love the show and cant wait to see it wvery week… Very good story lines and cast. The ensemble is fantastic . I enjoy that story lines and charectors are complex not as other shows out.
Also, i watch show online on hulu.com.
Well if ABC would run the shows weekly instead of no show for a week or two, you may have better dedicated audience.
A great show that gets better with each episode. Do to my schedule, I watch it on Hulu or on ABC.com. With all of the reality tv drivel out there, shows like this one are needed.
I love the show, but I only watch it online too. Please keep Pan Am!!
Pan Am is a very entertaining series. It is a well written, well casted, entertaining show. It has captivated my attention. As such, it is a surprise to me that it has been struggling in the ratings. I too am one who watches the series online after its airing. As a physician, I do not have time to watch programs when they are aired. Instead, I watch the show on Hulu or ABC.com days to weeks later. I am hoping ABC renews the show for another season. I am growing tired of the repetitive pattern of being drawn in by… Read more »
GREAT show. Give it time to develop. It’s fantastic. Can’t wait each week until the next episode.
