Parenthood: To Be Cancelled or Renewed for Season Four?

Parenthood canceled renewedTonight marks the season finale of NBC’s Parenthood. The ratings are down so will it end up being the series finale as well? Will the show be cancelled or return for a fourth season?

Parenthood debuted back in March of 2009 as a mid-season replacement series. The first season’s 13 episodes ended up averaging a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.38 million total viewers. The show was on the bubble but ended up getting renewed.

NBC didnt wait until mid-season to bring it back and season two kicked off in September 2010. With a full 22 episode season, the show’s averages dropped to a 2.1 in the demo and 5.34 million. Parenthood was on the bubble once again but, once again, it ended up being renewed.

This season, the ratings have dropped once again. The third season of Parenthood (not including tonight’s numbers) have averaged a 1.9 in the demo with 5.13 million. Based on the lower numbers at the start of the season, NBC only ordered 18 installments this time around.

Should Parenthood get a fourth season?

Ordinarily, one would expect that Parenthood would be on the verge of cancellation once again. However, because the rest of NBC’s schedule is in such sorry shape, Parenthood’s ratings actually look pretty good by comparison.

Out of the 17 scripted programs that have aired on NBC this season, Parenthood has the sixth highest demo ratings, beating out shows like Community, Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, and Grimm. On our NBC ratings report card, Parenthood registers a firm “B.”

Based on the season numbers and the fact that Parenthood is co-produced by Universal Television, NBC’s own production company, it’s almost guaranteed to be back for a fourth season.

But, what do you think? Do you think Parenthood should be renewed or cancelled? How long should the series reasonably continue?

Please don’t cancel Parenthood. It;s a great TV show We just wait all week for it to come on I don’t think it gets enough advertisement. If you cancel this show only smut will come on like the rest of them. This is a well loved TV program and so well done. Everyone on this show feeds off the other, it’s like Seinfield, only a drama of life. Keep it going. S Polsin

Parenthood is one of the best shows that NBC has put on the network in quite awhile. The storylines and acting is really top notch. Please do the public a favor and keep this show going for as long as possible. The fans will really appreciate it. And that is the idea, isn’t it? Pleasing the fans? Thanks for all you can do to keep Parenthood on the air.

I like this show. In this day and age it’s nice to see a show with good values that touches on issues that everyone faces. This is a great show and cast. NBC should definitely keep this show.

“Parenthood” is by far the best show on TV. It depicts a caring family life despite all their trials, they comfort eachother and “muddle” thru like normal familes hope to be able to do. My husband & I are so addicted to this show, we can hardly wait for Tuesday night to see what will happen next. This show is a wonderful mixture of comedy and heart warming true life feelings. All the actors are so talented it’s easy to believe they are not playing a part but actually expressing true feelings.
Please do not take this wonderful, uplifting show off the air.

Please renew parenthood I think it is one of the best tv shows. NBC should be ashamed to even think of removing it. So ratings are up and down let’s ride it out. The show is worth keeping. The actors are the best.

Thank you

I don’t have much time available for watching TV. Frankly, most of it is not worth watching. I have only discovered Parenthood in the last few weeks and have lost a great deal of sleep playing catch-up seeing the last episode of season two last night. Parenthood is, hands down, one of the best TV shows I have ever seen. It has already sparked important conversations in my family. If it continues and begins to show the characters aging and moving through new developmental stages then it will always have an audience as it reflects our society. I have been impressed with the issues I have seen raised. Parenthood, if it continues with the same level of excellence, will become one of our iconic TV series.
