I just started watching this show about a week ago, me, my girlfriend, and my dad are hooked, weve watched 3 seasons in the past week, I hate to see this show end, i dont care how it ends, im going to watch every episode because the show gets better every episode, ive always wanted to be a firefighter, and i sure am going to miss this show. I hope denis leary and peter tolan work together on another series soon.

I really hate to see the show end, it is very well written. My husband is a retired firefighter, and he just loves the show, and most shows that have anything to do with firefighter he usually doesn’t like because they are so fake, and he has loved this show from the start, all he ever sez is how true everything is, and that they are giving away all their secrets. All the guys are just like the guys he worked with, he will sit there and say, that is just like Shawn or Kevin, or who ever. Denis Leary has really tapped into what it is like to be a firefighter, what it is to live with one, and how these guys are when they are at work , and what they say and do. They truly are American Heroes, but I guess to release the stress that they are under they have sorta have a strange and sick way of dealing with things. I think you will noticed that they act very macho, but they really are a bunch of very sensitive men, and you can’t help but love each and everyone of them. I know I love my firefighter.

I really do not want this show to end – it’s just like “The Job” – I fell in love with it and it ended very abruptly after 2 seasons – not fair!!! Denis, come up with something else, all my shows are gone – Cold Case, Without A Trace, The Closer is ending as well. It’s almost causing me to not want to get attached to a show, like now, I fear for Glee!

The show had a good run. But like all shows, they can’t last forever. It’s strong and they’re idoits on the show but it was still fun to watch. I think, Tommy finally grew up and got his **** together. And I hope, Tommy and Janet stay together. After all, she’s the only one who can put up with his bull ****. I’m looking forward to season 7. At the same time I’m very dissapointed it will be the last to say the least! There is nothing else on television that can hold my interest as much as Rescue Me. The talent assembled is amazing, the writing, the finished product, it’s raised the bar for anything else on the tube. It’s the only show that I will buy every dvd and watch them over and over. They say all good things must come to an end, but this isn’t one of them!

actually quite glad they’ve been slowly easing away from humor. I still catch myself laughing at rescue me constantly. They still make jokes.

But the fact of the matter is, the truly important parts of that show are insanely depressing. The show is a moral question: What makes a true hero? It’s genius. And this entire season has been Tommy trying to correct his problems and become a good person. He’s trying to fix himself. Frankly, it’s some of the best writing I’ve ever seen.

By the way, Kaitlyn Badge: That was 2 seasons ago. You missed a complete season. Watch it and then wait for the next nine episodes

In my opinion, this show and every other great series that’s gotten canceled in the past few years is due to the high incline of online viewers…no one watches live tv anymore! Why would we? Personally I’ve watch the series completely at least 2 times over. So my response to the ending, all great things come to an end, but to use a cop-out like it was viewer ratings is BS in my book. Dear Denis Leary and Company:

I really loved the show “Rescue Me” and I watched a lot of the episodes.

Now that “Rescue Me” is off the air, I have a question for you guys. I saw the last
episode where Denis Leary was forced to drink a lot of liquor at gunpoint, and
Tommy (Denis) was told by the dude forcing Tommy to take many many shots
of whiskey, that he was going to shoot him, and that with a lot of alcohol in his
system and bloodstream, he would have a very slow death.

However, I did not know if Tommy (Denis) died. Would you tell me the outcome
please? Did Tommy die or did he live?

I cannot make it out on the FX/Rescue Me website if Tommy died or not. Therefore,
there is a cliffhanger for me, and inquiring minds need to know the outcome. Oh, by the way, I recently found out that one of my distant Irish cousins has the first name of Gavin. I never met him, as he is too far away for me to travel, and I do not want to fly in a plane anymore.

I think Denis Leary is quite handsome. Additionally, I love Denis’ video “I’m An *******” and all his videos and stand-up routines are great.

Please get back with me on these questions. I would greatly appreciate it.

This show is my favorite, being a firefighter i can make many connections with this show. This is basically the only show that is about firefighters, they have cops and shows about ems and etc but never fire. this show filled that slot and i love watching this show. i cant wait for season 6 to be on netflix so i can watch it. I might actually buy it but i think fx is making a horrrible decision by stopping after season 7. They could continue it past that and they aare disappointing many people by stopping. This show hits close to my heart and i hate to see it go.

This really sucks, every show that is good always gets cannedback because they say people don’t watch it. However nowadays everyone waits for the season to end so they can buy the box set and in a weekend watching it back to back . Or they download it so they can watch it later, not everyone has time to be at home to wach it first airing. This show is as good as it was the first season. Yes maybe not as funny as it was but still has me laughing and i don’t want to see it go. Lost enough good shows in the last few years don’t want another one to go.

I absolutlely love rescue me and I am pissed to see it go. While all the other networks are airing nothing but reality shows there’s always that one show that you could always count on to keep it real,Rescue me is that show. It is one of the most original shows I”ve seen in a long time, and to see it go I feel it is a big lost to Fx. I strongly urge them to reconsider…. I’ve never missed an episode and though some of the episodes were a bit depressing I felt it was still very truthful in it’s delivery. Airing a show about post 911 you dont’t expect it to be humorous, though the show did a great job making me laugh from time to time. It showed a realness about what people faced after the fact. There’s not another show, nor will there be another show like it on television.

The reason the numbers aren’t as high as they used to be, in my opinion, is that the show has lost its formerly side-splitting sense of humor. It used to be my favorite show for its perfect mix of drama and laughs, but the last two seasons have just been depressing. After watching the latest episode, I realized I hadn’t laughed once, whereas I used to practically piss myself I was laughing so hard. Remember Tommy on Prozack? Lou’s poetry about 9/11? Last season’s song/dance numbers were pretty great, but aside from that, the show has really plummeted, and I’m really sad about it. Who wants to watch an alcohlic bomb out week after week without some lighter fare mixed in? Boo.

We love Rescue Me….we discovered it on NetFlix…watched every episode and finally caught up to the last season….now we are finding out that it will not be renewed…what a disappointment! I don’t understand why there is such a lag time between seasons….that is when you loose your viewership…We don’t get interested in any series anymore because if we get excited about a series, it will leave the air in 2 years….so we wait until they are camceled, then if there are enough seasons to watch, we will then netflix them. It is too bad that the networks are hurting themselves by not listening to the viewers comments. Great shows are not being renewed or they are giving over a year to return…by then we have lost interest, or forgot the story line and have moved on to something else…..what a shame.

Seeing as how FX is a part of Fox, some of this comes as no surprise. It’s definitely not a surprise for the sixth season to morph into two seasons as this gives them more chances to make money. As evidence of this, just look at Rescue Me’s Season 5. Season 5 was longer than each of the previous four season, 22 episodes to 13 episodes each for Seasons 1-4. And when it came time to release Season 5 on DVD, the customers whom they “value” so much were treated to a TWO-SET release. Two opportunities to spend money, and two opportunities for them to make money.

But wait, it gets much better. Six months after the release of the second “volume” of Season 5, a single set release was issued. And the kick in the ba**s is that it was priced much like ONE of the previous two-set release. So anyone buying the first two sets basically paid twice for what would eventually be released a few months later. Fans who hadn’t bought the original two-set release made out better, but the people who bought the the two-set release (like me) got the shaft.

None of this is meant as a negative critique of the show itself, just the ancillary issues that seem to plague a lot of Fox-related shows. Rescue Me is one of the best shows on TV, but as with anything related to the television industry, it’s all about milking the viewers for money.

(To go off on a tangent, I was a fan of Drive back in 2007, and the people at Fox decided to cancel it after nearly a month. Four episodes were aired, and the final two only saw the light of day on Fox’s website. They were originally set to broadcast, but Fox kept changing the dates and ultimately decided against broadcasting them on TV. The originally planned run was 13 episodes. Fox never gave this show a chance and were seemingly unaware that the premise of the show would require them to build viewership over time since it told an ongoing story.)

Man, whats going on !Please dont cancel. Here in Australia i have only discovered this show about 2 months ago, and been tracking down all the past episodes and its the only thing i watch on tv now. One of the best all time shows i have watched, even to put it against the sopranos and thats saying something. I am now spreadang the word and have many people watching it and they all love it. Do not understand why a major network has not picked it up. One reason i guess is that it would be impossible to put it on prime time, as for the adult content, but who cares, its the adults that watch it. So stop with the Bla, Bla, Bla…and lets keep this show going.

I got into the show and it is a great action show with a very strange and out there family problems… But Tommy has never been sober but has been for awhile now and him and sheila just are going to kill each other and they still will… Janet has always stood by Tommy even when they fought… Janet is still in love with Tommy as she always has been and always will be and the fact that Tommy and sheila didnt sleep together they should have them fight and make up and get ride of sheila… I still hope that Tommy and Janet stay together I think tommy can be the husband he wants to be and I think he will… SUCKS THEY ARE ENDIG IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This stuff pisses me off more than just about anything when will these douche bags understand that TV is dead and you can not base the fate of TV shows anymore on ratings. because people do not watch tv shows anymore on tvs they watch them on the internet. if they did a study on how many people have watched rescue me on the internet the numbers would go up. besides that its on FX at 10:00 if it was on Fox or ABC more people would watch this. it is also on during the Summer when people are away or busy with other stuff. Stop cancelling shows based on numbers of people who watch it on tv. and bring back rescue me because i quite honestly can’t take another damn reality tv show.

Being a volunteer fire fighter, and this being the only show on TV that I know of that has fire fighting as a huge part, I’ll be extremely sad to see this show go, like many, I really only watch FX because of this show. I truly believe that you did not push this show enough and that’s why you saw such a drastic decrease in viewers I don’t see commercials for the show as a whole, just for the next episode get Leary on SNL or something of the like and talk about it, maybe it can be like Family Guy and bounce back.

I feel FX has dropped the ball on this one! I noticed already they are showing reruns of Sons of Anarchy on Saturday nights. Where were the rescue me reruns!!!!! No promotion ,no reruns, short seasons. FX are you trying to make this show fail. Please! One of the best kept secrets on TV. Before you cancel it at least try to promote it a little better! The only reason this show isn’t as big as it should be, is because it’s NOT on a major network and it only runs in the summer. It needs to be picked up by a major network and run on a traditional fall schedule. The show is that good. I don’t get it. It’s the only show I watch on FX. If they cancel it, I have absolutely no reason to tune in to that channel. They should really try and sell it to either CBS, NBC, ABC or Fox. There is no other TV program out there right now that even compares to this show. I will be so sad if it doesn’t continue.

Rescue Me is a great example of the expanding of the ‘Cimema Vertie’ style television shows that are breaking the mold – along with BSG, and several other great shows –

I hate to see Rescue Me – end – especially after seeing Dennis Leary go from such a good comic/actor – to producer/director – and I think it is honestly his – and – some of the best work I have seen on television or anywhere else.

I just noticed on our FX channel that season 6 premier is coming up on Tuesday, June 29th. I thought it was over as Tommy was shot by his uncle in the bar and lay on the floor behind the bar bleeding. What could season 6ths storyline possible be? Now he haunts people or does he somehow survive the shooting? Should be an interesting two years.

I finally find a decent show and they’re going to end it? “Rescue Me” is an excellent show, with amazing characters/actors and story lines. The writers know when a character is tired and they eliminate them in a timely fashion; it continues to avoid “jumping the shark” and brings a new adventure every episode. It’s the kind of show that really could continue on without losing its viewers and it’s hard to imagine it ever really has. I discovered it after Season Five and have watched it via Netflix. It is a television page-turner; I don’t know how I would have survived watching it as it aired, as the week between episodes would have been painful. Everyone I’ve turned onto the shows feels the same as I do. Meanwhile, “Cougar Town” is still haunting the airwaves.

I think it is ridiculous that they are ending this show! TV has become such garbage with the stupid reality shows. Whats wrong with great acting and good stories. One issue I have had with FX is the short seasons, long breaks and no reruns of this great show! Please rethink your decisions FX !!!! This is one of only a few shows left worth watching!!!!!!

it’s too bad we still reside in a country so free yet tied together by sinew so shallow & conservative. Rescue Me, Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Nurse Jackie these are the shows that we should be REQUIRED to watch and interpret in school so that we can become a Nation of deeper intelligence, rather than our fat-assed glittering “reality” TV shows that thwart the mainstream and choke original throught from people!

Americans are Morons, D Leary’s razor edged comedy is too much for 90%+ of viewers to comprehend as fast as he dishes it out. Shows like Rescue Me have a built-in half life of reality garbage TV due to the fact that the viewer HAS TO USE THEIR BRAIN! Ouch, Thinking-That Hurts!
Also doesn’t help his cause that we’re living in such soft, Politically Correct times when people’s feelings get hurt when they’re not coddled by the minute. Thankfully I have all the previous seasons dvd’s to fall back on. Thanks for the EXC. RUN, Rescue Me!!

Absolutly … this series is mad like a part of family for me … i almost work as an firefighter and understand a lot of things that happen in Rescue me … nothing all is so “hard” as is shows … but in many things i find myself ^^
So what should be the end …. i think its almost one way , like Cris said … Tommy have to die … but to see him die , i am not sure if wanna see that … maybe it would be better they promise us to make another season and after a few months they quit the project … Would be a hard cut .. finally i am not sure ……

It seems that the major 3 (CBS, NBC, and ABC) networks can have crap like American Idol and Dancing with the Stars and other inane stupid shows which go on forever, but FX had to cancell one of the very few shows that I actually looked forward to each week. The American public truely do not know what good TV drama/comedy is and this is the reason why Rescue Me was cancelled.
Also, lets not forget the almighty dollar which is how the networks base whether a show gets canned or not. Because viewer numbers dropped they weren’t making enough bucks so the idiots at FX decided to cancell a great show.
Gee, I wonder did any of these morons use to work at NBC? Must have been the same “people” who moved Leno to 10 pm! Brilliant!!!!
Good work FX! Keep running the same movies over and over – that’ll save you money while your viewers drop! Adious! I refused to watch your channel from here on out!

In my opinion rescue me is as close to a true firehouse reality show you can get. If it must end I believe that Tommy should die in a fire and be in the viewing watching all his friends and family mourn his loss as he is greeted by his son, brother, father and his fellow fallen firefighters as the ghosts “welcome” him home to where firefighters go. He should first be touched by the words of the mourners then elated by his passing beyond. That would be the greatest tribute we could give to such a troubled soul like Tommy Gavin, in my opinion. I just hope that at least end the show by wraping it all up, like the ghost of tommys family members, the sex afair with his cuz inlaw , his love life with his wife, the love afairs of fellow fire fighters and the daughter that children and families of new york never followed up on while she is traviling with a rich women not seeing her father, and all the other fire fights storys because its not just about Tommy, let the show end with closing all the questions dont leave fans mad and wondering.

I just found out that FX is pulling a boner and dumping FX? Figures, one of the greatest shows on TV. So what if everyone that watches it doesnt have a Nielsen ratings box? It is still super strong and everyone I know watches it and loves it. They should checkout all the “Tommy Gavin” fans on Facebook.

Great move FX, someone with down syndrome must be running that network now.

Man, I’m so thoroughly disappointed to hear this show will be wrapping up for good. I look forward to it every year. The dialog is so well written and the story lines are so engaging. You get so attached the characters especially Tommy. All the good shows end eventually. Whatta shame but boy was it a good run.

Dr. Denis Leary is a God, it sucks that the GREATEST SHOW of all time has to come to end but, if we face the facts we all knew it was coming. Dr. Denis along with his colleges from Resume Me have played such great roles (Although it was better earlier then later) nothing should be taken away from them. To be able to tie his real life into the tragedy of 9/11 and make everyone feel even more consumed just proves how much of a genius Peter and Dr. Denis are. Nothing should ever be taken away from those men and women who gave there livese that day, but who could have told a story like Peter and Dr. Denis have that would relate even a little bit. That’s what Dr. Denis and Peter set out to do.

My hat is off to Denis Leary for all the charity work he does for the FDNY and surrounding departments. This is a show no one wants to see go, but if we think of the facts, all true Resume Me fans will let Denis Leary end this series the way he see’s fit. Because, let face it, what can we argue about this series to date….

BEST SERIES EVER, NO MATTER WHAT HAPPEN!

Hats off to Dr. Denis and Peter for having to balls to take such a tragedy in American History and tell there story

The least FX could do is end the show on its hundredth episode, rather than have it end just a few episodes shy. This is a great show and its getting treated poorly in its final years by FX just like Nip/Tuck was.

I am a late comer to watching this show, picking up the five seasons on Netflix. But I’m hooked now.

Season six should focus on Tommy’s physical and emotional recovery. It would be the most painful journey he’s ever faced. Bottom line, he’s never really grieved for the deaths of his cousin, his son, his father, his brother, his marriage, his youth or the promise and hope his life once held.

Actually facing the demons of 9/11? What about his own shame for not going into the second tower? Is Tommy ready to do that sober?

Real heroism on his part would be to seek sobriety for himself, his family and his friends. But he’s too terrified of the implications.

Obviously, I’m deep in analysis mode from recent viewings.

Brilliant, engaging show. Writing is phenomenal. Characters compelling, dark and real. Hilarious one-liners and predicaments. Bravo.

I agree that the show has to end with a dramatic and surprise finish. It would ruin the whole experience if it ended up with everybody (Tommy) healthy and happy.
