Ringer: CW Prez’s Thoughts on Cancelled TV Series

Ringer TV series canceled

At the CW portion of the Television Critics Association summer press tour, network president Mark Pedowitz shared some insights about why he believes that Ringer wasn’t a big enough success to warrant a second season.

Pedowitz believes that the complex story about twin sisters may have been better suited to a shorter season. He said, “One of the things you learn about the level of these serialized shows is ‘less may be more.’ Twenty-two [episodes] might have been too many. So if there’s a consideration to redo it, we’d probably go anywhere from six to 13.”

He believes the ratings fall-off was due at least in part to the complexity of the stories. Pedowitz also noted that “it was not performing as well as we hoped it to on the digital-online station and the social media station.” Still, “the fans are still writing me, they want [a second season] desperately.”

Though Ringer is staying cancelled, The CW and Sarah Michelle Gellar — who was also an executive producer on the series — may be back in business together soon. Pedowitz shared that they’ve “had many discussions since May” and offered, “When she’s ready, she would love to come back to the CW and we would love to have her at the CW either as an actress or a producer.”

What do you think? Should Ringer have had a shorter season? Were there other problems with the show? Did you watch the whole season?

Please bring this show back. It’s an insult to say that it was too intelligent for viewers. That’s not why your number in viewers dropped. People have lives, and we still watch things online: netflix, itunes, etc. This show is fantastic, and it had a lot going on for it. Just because a number says something doesn’t mean it’s true. So many people want this show back. Bring it back and ruin it like you did with Supernatural and the Vampire Diaries. But for crying out loud BRING IT BACK.

Why is it that if the show is mindless and stupid it stays but something that keeps you guessing and wanting and waiting for more it gets tossed? This is exactly why I hate tv, I finally find a show that makes feel the way I do when I read a great book and it cancels at the height of climax, disappointed just does not seem to cover it. Oh well, back to my books and good bye television I guess.

i thought ringer was great! i watched every episode of the 1st season and was looking forward to season 2 just to find that it had been cancelled. big mistake! i know there were a lot of twists and turns, and that could be confusing for some, but that’s what made the show so good in my opinion.

We need a another season!! It can’t end like this..
It’s inconsidarate and the audience obviously loved this show.
What can we say to make you believe. Everyone has hard time catching it.. Bur I gurentee I’d you keep them on demand and Netflix where everyone can watch it. It would defiantly make a difference or maybe put it on at a decent hour. I never knew when to catch it.

I thought The Ringer was an amazing show, i was completely hooked, and watched the whole season on Netflix in a weekend and have been dying to find out what would happen in Season 2. I was attempting to research when the new season would start only to find the show is being cancelled. I am very disappointed, and hate that the season ended with a cliff hanger i will not be able to see the ending to. I as well feel cheated, there are plenty of other shows that should have been kicked from the network before this one that had a great story-line and cast. I do hope the decision will be changed, and bring the show back for a second season.

I am so bummed!!! This is one of my favorite shows! I just came online to see when it started up again only to find that it’s been cancelled. I really hope that someone else picks it up or they decide to continue with it. Even if it’s just one more season, I HATE that there is no ending… You can’t help but feel cheated, and that you’ve wasted all that time for nothing.

Really, just add that to one more show that these dumb ass networks cancel.
What is wrong with programing. They won’t be happy till we all stop watching TV period.

I am very disappointed that Ringer was canceled. My friends and I watched this clever series every week! Sarah Michelle Gellar has been one of my favorite actresses ever since Buffy……Please bring her back on Ringer OR another supernatural imaginative show like Buffy. Why can’t someone write another Buffy???? wishful thinking……

I watched every episode and couln’t wait for the series to continue after the Christmas break. I loved the casting and the storyline and was so hoping the show would come back this fall. I am sad to see it won’t be back. Seems like the good shows get cancelled and the bad ones stay on. I will say the final episode was too raunchy for me. All the other episodes were well done without the ranuchiness.
