Romantically Challenged: Alyssa Milano Talks About the Sitcom’s Cancellation

Romantically ChallengedLast week, ABC confirmed that the network had indeed cancelled Romantically Challenged after just a few episodes.

The sitcom, starring Alyssa Milano, Josh Lawson, Kelly Stables, Kyle Bornheimer, Camden Palmisano, and Sierra McCormick, follows a group of friends who are looking for love. It debuted to lackluster ratings and viewership only dropped from there.

When news leaked out that the show was likely to be cancelled, Milano and others connected with the show encouraged fans to contact ABC and express their support. The efforts didn’t work and the network still cancelled Romantically Challenged.

Milano briefly thanked supporters on Twitter and later wrote a longer statement that says…

It would be so very, very, easy for me to be upset and bitter about the cancellation of “Romantically Challenged”. But… I’m not upset or bitter. Don’t get me wrong; I have moments throughout the day, when I think to myself, “Wait. What the hell just happened?” But luckily those moments are fleeting. And I am well aware that I’m in a business that sometimes makes decisions that are inexplicable. Dealing with those decisions is almost just as much a part of the job as memorizing my dialogue. My only true sadness comes from not being able to see Ricky, Mr. Burrows, Josh, Kelly and Kyle’s face every day. I will miss them like crazy. I already do, actually. Just writing that last sentence made me tear up a bit.

I find great solace in the fact that I did everything I could for the show’s success. We ALL did everything we could do and we can feel good about that. And since I’ve always been a glass half full kind of girl, I think something kind of magical came out of this whole experience. A community was built on hope and a common goal via Twitter. There was no way I could ever delete the RomChallenged Twitter account. That account was always yours. We just kept it updated. I have just switched it over to the official Alyssa.com account so we can keep the community together. It will still be yours. I will keep it updated and I will continue to follow anyone that wants to be a part of our community.

Again, I can’t thank you enough for all of your tireless efforts on behalf of the show. I can safely speak for the entire cast and Ricky when I say, we were all so touched and moved by everything you did! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I hope to be in your living rooms again real soon. Until then, you know where to find me.
Say Whaaattt?

Peace, Light, And Love,
Alyssa

ABC still has three unaired episodes of the show and hasn’t announced any plans to air them yet.

I loved that show, i got really sad when i knew it was cancelled. Just like Isis, i was glad to see Alyssa back on tv. I also loved Charmed, it’s my favourite show until today.

I can’t believe the show was cancelled, they didn’t give it a chance. Personally, I was glad to see Alyssa back on TV ever since “Charmed”. Too bad we only got a few episodes, I thought the show was funny and don’t know what ABC was thinking for dropping it. Very disappointed :(

I am really upset that this show was cancelled. I was so glad to see Alyssa back on television and I got some really good fashion tips, if only for a few weeks. I wish they would bring it back but hopefully she will land something that will stay. Seriously though, what the heck is True Beauty and The Bachlorette…so over reality shows!

“…decisions that are inexplicable.” Is she for real??? I love Alyssa Milano and I usually love all silly sitcoms but this one was a real big STINKER. It was so bad I couldn’t believe ABC actually gave the show the greenlight and put it on after the ratings darling, Dancing with the Stars. If you’re coming on after a hugely successful show and still can’t pull in a decent viewing audience you know something isn’t working. Romantically Challenged was actually Comedy Challenged — just too painful and unfunny to watch. Still love you Alyssa!
