There’s been no shortage of TV shows about doctors who have lots of problems. Some are ratings hits while others are cancelled after only one season. How’s Rush on USA Network been doing? Will it get a second season?
Rush revolves around a talented and handsome physician (Tom Ellis) who had it all — but then lost it in one fateful night. Six years later, he’s a private doctor who treats less-than-squeaky-clean clientele in Los Angeles. The rest of the cast includes Harry Hamlin, Larenz Tate, Odette Annable, and Sarah Habel.
Launching in mid-July, the first episode of Rush attracted 1.7 million viewers with a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic. It wasn’t an impressive start for a scripted show on USA.
For the episodes that followed, the numbers have bounced all around — up and down like a ping-pong ball. Last week’s installment hit series highs while the previous week hit new series lows. It’s difficult to explain but, when the ratings get this low, it doesn’t take many Nielsen viewers to watch or not watch a show to cause a dramatic shift in the ratings. Still, it is unusual.
Like Satisfaction, Rush has very poor ratings — even when compared to the rest of USA’s ailing scripted series. It seems very likely that USA will cancel Rush but, given the cable channel’s current situation, it could easily go either way.
But, what do you think? Do you like the RushTV show on USA? If you ran the network, would you cancel or renew it for a second season?
10/2 update: USA has cancelled Rush after one season of 10 episodes.
I have to admit that I took a guilty pleasure watching the hedonistic yet competent doctor operate in risky, lucrative, high income high status subculture of LA. Beautiful women are my main focus of this series since getting clean and sober many years ago, so yes I love the vicariousness of his life. I don’t see how he’ll get out of this cliff-hanger…
Ok I am 41 and just started watching this show but it’s an awesome show I am liking the main character he is so attractive….definitely please keep the show. ….I think people don’t know it’s on…we need some more dark shows that are different…I like his assistant I don’t see how he cannot be attracted to her…The woman he likes is a bit odd for him….

Please don’t cancel Rush it is my favorite show I was so sad the season finale came on I can’t wait til the next season 🙂
Keep the show!! Love it!!
We NEED the next series!!! we have got to know the characters and this is hardly your ER/Greys type “medical” drama its about a flawed but brilliant doctor fighting against but also enjoying his demons! We NEED to see the next series to find out what happens!
Am quite ill–but am hanging on to see RUSH return–too many loose ends–really enjoy the show
I really cant get it, this show ( RUSH ) is a fantastic show. Every week my best program to watch was ( Rush ). On TV history there are program that star uncertain then behold it takes a life of its own. This program has potential give them a second chance is a great show. I have Direct TV program to record the last episode and it did not record the full program man was I mad so.
I suspect that like me, many RUSH fans are beyond the 18-49 target audience. The appeal of this show transcends this demographic, and extends itself to the ‘young at heart’ in an enlightened and aging society. ( Many ‘ baby boomers can relate to Rush as well as the younger generations). My point USA, is that RUSH is watched and appreciated more than your measures reflect. I urge you to PLEASE BRING RUSH BACK. It is extremely entertaining!
Thank you.
Please don’t cancel this show!!!!!
I can’t wait till next season.
Love the show please keep it I even wtch it when the r-run thje same episode
Please keep this show. It is a great show about an unusual medical practice. It is on your seat stuff because you never know what he is going to get called to do!
Keep its a good show we are invested in all the characters
please do not cancel this show. it is not like any other medical show at all.
Keep RUSH on – it’s the only TV show I watch. Keeps me interested and it seems very real – I can relate………
If it goes off and doesn’t make season 2, I’m disconnecting my TV.
Thanks Jeannie, I like your endorsement. I too found the show interesting, particularly the excellence of the script. The acting seemed believable, I especially liked Rush’s secretary and his dope dealer. They both soft pedaled their respective lines, clearly could have been more aggressive, but improved the show by playing their parts with dignity and subtlety. Well done. The side kick doesn’t quite match the demeanor of those two, but also provides a credible counterpoint. His girlfriend, though lovely, attractive, and obviously very smart, doesn’t quite make it, she doesn’t seem believable. Personally, I like her. I just don’t believe… Read more »
