@Darlene – It is not TNT that is cancelling Grace. It is Fox Studio, owned by News Corp, run by Rupert Murdoch (an Englishman)who hired Emiliano someone from ITALY that refused to continue production of the show. Maybe they are part of a religion that denies angels, or maybe they think that Earl is too “strange” to be an angel, or maybe they are simply too money-hungry to let us have this show. We met Grace at rock-bottom, and have seen her learn and grow in every episode. Maybe they don’t want us to see that inner change is possible. I am afraid that we are too late, though. The announcement was made last summer and they have filled the timeslot with a bad-cop show that was so bad it was cancelled by its original network. They do not care about us, they don’t have to. Rupert is a billionaire and Emiliano is his lackey. WE do not count. If you visit the News Corp website you will see how much of OUR media is controlled by this foreigner-run company. Even America’s airwaves are no longer controlled by Americans. They decided that Saving Grace would not make them as much money (as if they need more!!) as some cheap knock-off cop show (Southland). So we lost our SAving Grace. I have no idea if there is a way to keep her; I’m afraid it is a lost cause. Maybe Rupert sees himself as the King and this is his revenge for the Boston Tea Party.
Rupert: if you should ever be made aware of these comments, I promise to retract every one of them and sing your praises (not that you need them!) if you will tell that idiot Emiliano that he has made a big mistake and make him start production of season five. And please do not tell us that the final episode cannot be turned into a cliffhanger instead of the finale. I have been in television and around studios and know that it can be done if you want it to be done.

What, is the network scared because Grace talks to an Angel. In a time when God is being thrown out of schools, that means no Angels on television too? Highway to Heaven played for five years. If you don’t like it, or agree with it, don’t watch it. But don’t take the show away because of an Angel, the show is about much more. Keep the show because it is a great show, “kill off” the angel if that makes you feel better. Grace is the best, and what woman wouldn’t want to be her! If TNT takes away Saving Grace and or The Closer I won’t be watching that station EVER again.

I admit I was very late in seeing the article and learning of this travesty, but since they still have at least a partial season ready to be aired, all they have to do is shelve the final episode, or add a scene that would make it a cliffhanger instead of a finale, and find a studio that CARES about the fans! I am amazed that TNT would allow itself to be run by a production studio…unless, of course they are both owned by the billionaire at News Corp and he is so out of touch with or disdainful of his audience that he pulls the strings and gives us tripe instead of steak. Oh, that’s right, he’s English and likes tripe! Once again we see proof that America is no longer run by Americans…

Have you seen the ads for one of the new shows TNT will be introducing this week? We can’t have Saving Grace, so they are giving us ‘WHY DID I GET MARRIED” – another show in which people will be sitting around or running around complaining about their spouse.
What is wrong with these people????
They take away our angel and give us devils???
Is this really all they think we are worth?
NANCY MILLER – ARE YOU LOOKING FOR ANOTHER PRODUCTION STUDIO? Please don’t let those foreigners take away our SAVING GRACE!!! (Murdoch, a billionaire from England and Emiliano, the studio head from Italy, are the ones who made this decision)

i am really disappointed. i really liked the show. i would love to see it stay on the air. there is so much of the same tv on all the local channels that it is a shame that the only show that is different is going to be canceled. i did love the show and will miss it.

@Roddog – I was with you, all the way to your political comments, which are confusing…it sounds like you don’t like EITHER of the presidents you mentioned! And, I agree with you, Bush did provide us with a reign of ignorance. And yes, we seemed to be overrun with televangelists setting policy for that administration…and yes Obama has a lot of stuff to fix, but he inherited it, he didn’t create it….AND this is not the forum for political statements. I’m certain you can find one or ten thousand elsewhere on the ‘net.
I agree that Fiona apparently doesn’t believe in angels and doesn’t like being confronted with anything resembling redemption or changing of a life for the good. Sounds to me like she doesn’t want prayer in schools, either. So I ignored her comments as being dim-witted and ignorant; my guess is she’s an atheist and is afraid to admit that there is an unseen power in the Universe and that It wants to help us help ourselves. And that’s where Grace and Earl come in: to show us that no matter what our lifestyle, God loves us anyway. BUT THAT IS NOT ALL THAT THIS SHOW IS ABOUT!!!
And to remove this cast and their storylines from my week, forever, is just NOT RIGHT!!!

Its a well known fact that Fox TV is run by idiots. They cancel great shows all the time. If a show is slightly cerebral, Fox TV execs are incapable of processing it so it gets canceled. I don’t think its economics as I don’t think any of them muster the mental processing power to understand economics much less the need to sometimes fund something that may not make a fortune but is a worthwhile endeavor. Saving Grace is just such an endeavor. Its a great story that should be told, to its proper end. Further, the moron from Fox that talked about international revenue…what? Ancillary I will give you DVD sales and such, but international? From a TV show? From a TV show on a smaller cable network? Which is precisely the utter stupidity I am talking about with FOX television. It is just run by idiots. On their own network a show gets about 3 episodes to be as popular as American Idol, 24, or the Simpsons. If its not they dump it. In fact had I know Saving Grace was produced by FOX for TNT I would have never started watching it as I would have expected it to get dumped far before the story was over. I originally got hooked for the show by a trailer at a movie theater before its debut. Continued promotion like that would have helped generated more viewers and revenue, but international revenue…man there are some morons in FOX tv.

Fox says they are dropping Saving Grace because they are not making enough money off the show. I just visited the FOX store to buy the DVDs and found that A) they are not even offering her on the first pge (you have to type in the name and do a specific search for the show) and B) they offer it only in a widescreen version. I do not have a widescreen TV and will not buy that version. SO if they are unhappy about no DVD sales, they should A) make the show part of the front page offerings along with ALLY MCBEAL -off the air for how many years now? and B)sell a regular-screen version.

USA has some very entertaining shows now: White Collar, psych and Burn Notice seasons just ended, but Royal Pains and In Plain Sight are returning this month. You might check them out…If we are giving up on TNT if they drop Grace, there really are some decent alternatives. Not with the relevance or redemption that Grace and Earl offer, by a long shot, but entertainig. AND NOT ON TNT!!!
To save our Grace, sign the petition – and, TNT – to save your ratings, KEEP GRACE ON THE AIR! We don’t care what studio does the production work, we just want to have this show in our lives!!!

I just found out about another of our favorite shows that isn’t coming back. We love law shows if done seriously and believable. That’s why we really liked “Raising the bar”. And now we find out that they had a three show marathon on Christmas Eve of all days. We didn’t know about it so we will never know what happened in the end. Just another great show down the drain for no good reason other than corporate greed. There must be a way to save some of these shows even if it means having to pay for them. We used to use Netflix and watch them after the series would complete for the season. We loved the Sopranos, Deadwood, and now we are hooked on Brotherhood that is through Directv. Also Friday Night Lights is a great show with great writing and acting. It’s not for “brainiacs” but it is just a good entertaining show. I guess what we look for is realism that we can believe actually could happen. All the shows that we used to look forward to like Law and Order (all three of the series), CSI, NCIS, have all gotten so convoluted in their stories that we have lost interest in them. There are darn few decent shows on broadcast tv anymore. We have found many on cable channels and now they are started to screw with them. It makes a person wonder where tv viewing is going. I’m ready to just turn it off and read a good book.

Regarding Mary’s note about no DVD sales… well geez, we want the show, now dvd’s. However I did order the DVD’s when I found them online and it wasn’t all that expensive. I got the first season and second season for about 70 bucks. Its actually cheap when you compare it to the Sopranos which are still running close to 100 bucks per season. Some of the others are really expensive too, but I digress. Lets keep on with the talk and figure out what to do to save Grace. I’m still hoping that either HBO or Showtime will grab it up and keep it going. Its the only sensible thing to do. The story lines are as endless as we human beings are. We could all give Earl something to do!
Don’t you just love the relationship he’s built with Grace? Lets keep that petition alive and keep pounding at the networks.

Ok, I admit the obvious: when I get emotional my typing goes down the tubes. I know her name is Grace, not Gace.
The thought occured to me that one of the reasons we are getting so many cheap trash drivel shows is that the owner of NewsCorp and the man in charge of production are both European. (England and Italy) They are showing their disdain for American viewers by giving us drivel and using the excuse that we don’t support or deserve anything better than the low-cost no effort reality shows they are feeding us. Kind of like “Hustler” in the living room. Yes, that’s what some of these shows are like.
And, to a degree they may be right: Murdoch is a billionaire, controlling an enormous amont of American airtime and publications. He feeds us just enough substance to keep our minds involved for maybe 4 hours a week. The rest of the time he appeals to the basest minds of society, playing down to them instead of trying to lift them above the gutter. He is in in for the money, period. I’m not certain what good his billions will do him when he leaves this planet, but he has proven by his choices that he won’t be meeting Earl or anyone like him. Hmmmm…yes, I am that upset!

My DVR is set to record Gace “any day, any time” so that even when they air it at 4:00AM I can see it. But DVRs don’t help the ratings. I am really in a quandry over this, because they are saying they are pulling it for lack of DVD sales. DVDs are not in my budget right now, but if that purchase would keep her on the air I would do it. On the other hand, why should I reward them financially for pulling my favorite show? Any suggestions out there?

They are giong for the cheap shows rather than the quality shows. Yes, they are keeping some excellent shows: Leverage and The Closer are wonderful. But dumping Grace and Earl in favor of Southland is ludicrous.
My only prayer is that another production company will be smart enough to continue with the Emmy combination that Holly Hunter and Saving Grace provide. TNT would have kept them if FOX had not stopped production.
ALL THEY NEED TO DO IS FIND ANOTHER STUDIO. TNT, HAVE YOU LOOKED?

I can’t believe that you are going to let Saving Grace go down the drain and keep such mindless crap as all the emptyheaded reality shows. I know they are cheap to produce but come on, it’s just dumbing down human beings’ minds. We need more shows like Saving Grace that have some substance to them. Please find a way to save this show. The writing and acting is superb. There just isn’t enough shows like this out there. We have found a few great shows and this is one of them. Recently NBC decided to pull the plug on Southland but with a great letter writing campaign it has been picked up by the cable channel TNT and it is so great. Another wonderfully written and acted show. I can name shows like Damages, Raising the Bar, The Good Wife, In Plain Sight. These are shows that we truly look forward to every week. Friday Night Lights is another show that was going to go down the drain until Directv partnered with NBC and kept it going. We hated to see Sopranos and Deadwood come to and end. They could have kept these two shows going for many more seasons. Instead we get The Housewives of Somewhere each year or The Bachelor or The Biggest Loser. Pablum for the mind. One show that we pray keeps going is Men of a Different Age. It is so well written and acted with a great cast. Probably will be shortlived though because it’s too good.
Well, thanks for letting us vent. I guess we should be greatful for the few good shows that we still have.

I truly believe that Grace could become another Sopranos. Nobody expected that Sopranos would have the impact it did, nobody thought it would last. Grace is the same way. The difference is HBO was smart enough to negiotiate with the cast of Sopranos and do what it took to keep it running. They paid the extra money; they have more than regained what they spent. So the Fox networks need to wise up and realize that Grace is truly a goldmine. The amount of income it could generate is unreal if they’d just give it a chance. Instead there are shows like Housewives of somewhere that nobody cares, people screaming and yelling, drama that makes you sick, geez, I could go on and on what’s bad out there, and instead of looking at those mindless, meaningless shows they leave them and pull Grace. Lets keep the petition going, keep our letters going to the network. I googled Fox network to get their phone number but they were closed at 4am. I tried to call! lol I’ll google it again and post the phone number and address to contact them. I will if the moderator will let me post them. If not, google it yourself and call them. I really wanted a chance to vent to someone and get it off my chest what I thought of them for being idiots. Lets just keep doing what we can.

I can remember clear back to the early 80s when Cagney and Lacey was saved because viewers got angry over its cancellation.

And that was a show about two strong women, as well. I don’t buy this BS about needing better “ancillary revenue,” etc. I think it’s because no one wants to spend money to pay a top-notch team that thinks, that answers and addresses the huge questions, that has an amazing woman, fierce, tender, “like a force of nature,” as Holly Hunter said.

Sadly, women such as Grace and those before her and probably those after her will continue to lose support — and it will be blamed on money. What I want to know is……why are we still linking women with money? That’s sickening. I’m going to sign the petition and really, really, really, really do everything I can and hope and pray that Saving Grace does come back like stupid Southland, etc. It deserves it.

You are KILLING me, you kidding right? OMG I agree one of the best shows I have ever seen and the cast is awesome. Keep telling people about the petition, by the way, little chance of keeping it on? Might be, but Southland made it back due to pressure from the fans and networks alike, and that is one STUPID show, ditch Southland and keep Grace, I tried to watch Southland …..boring, we don’t need yet one more Law and Order, Adam 12 type show, keep Grace and throw out Southland, I actually switch to Discovery or History Channel now when Southland comes on…..Leverage is highly entertaining as well as the Closer, but Saving Grace tops them all with content and keeping you on the edge of your seat…………….I vote keep Grace ….ditch Southland, so a lot to be said for shows all being about NY, LA, Vegas, trust me there are plenty of other interesting places for storylines in the USA…….Don’t let Grace die !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Cheshire Cat, unless you are talking about the finances of the two shows being “against” each other, and getting rid of one of them based on cutting production costs, then Grace and Brenda were never up against each other; as a matter of fact, Brenda led us to Grace.
Did you see the post from Admin? No matter what we say or do, the statement is: “I don’t think they’re going to change their minds but you never know, they could do TV movies.”
As far as I can tell at this point, the only possibility for keeping her on the air is that another production company with another network picks up the contract and gives her back to us next spring. It has happened with other shows, maybe we’ll get lucky and it will happen with Grace. Look how long it took for Nip/Tuck to get back on the air…of course, they’re gone as of this week. But the writers and script twists killed that show, and that’s a whole different story.
Keep sending the petition to your friends. If it means nothing to TNT and Fox Studios, maybe it will sway someone else.

You’re absolutely right, and I apologize. I first posted mine on 2/27, having copied it from an earlier posting by someone else. I simply did not scroll back up to find it. I was responding to Marilyn’s 3/2 post which said she didn’t know what happened to it.
I am very glad to see that you are continuing to monitor our posts. Is there any possibility that Grace can be renewed before the final episode is aired? It could be difficult to pick the story up after all loose ends are completed and Grace and Earl have completed their mission in whatever way it’s going to be tied up.
I have even written to TNT and other networks suggesting that they find a new production company so that we do not have to lose this wonderful Emmy nominated show. I have suggested that News Corp fire Emiliano and get someone with a brain to replace him and keep Grace. Truthfully, is that a possibility, or are you just going to turn your backs on us?

Update 2/2/10: The Futon Critic is reporting that Saving Grace will return earlier than expected on Monday, 29 March @ 9pm when viewers will get back-to-back new episodes from 9 to 11pm (“Exclusive: ‘Saving Grace’ Returns to TNT on March 29,” 2 February 2010). The next week it will assume its regular 10pm timeslot, though that will be interrupted by the NBA playoffs as of 19 April. There are 9 new episodes left to air in its final season.

Wow, Are you for real… Dose anyone remember a little show called seinfeld, or friends.. Some of the biggest shows in history and for the first few years both of them had crap rateings. How would you know how much money a show is going to make in the future? I’m so sick of networks putting shows on, getting people interested in that shows plot and then pulling the plug.

I hope to god that there is a public outrage for this show to continue. It is one of the best shows on television. There is not to many of those left. Why dont you try to stop investing in the new crap shows that you plan on airing and stick with the ones that work. HEH FOX NETWORK, GET A CLUE!!!!

Stephani, I agree that most shows these days are designed for 12-year-olds, but there are a few that are not only intelligent but have good humor, as well: even though someone else who wants to save Grace does not like Leverage, I thoroughly enjoy it. Let’s not forget Bones and NCIS. Castle is another excellent show in danger of the ax. There are light-weight but thoroughly enjoyable shows on your hated network, USA: White Collar, Burn Notice, psych among them. I will admit that TNT, which bills itself as the “We know Drama” network, is losing its edge. From what I can tell, the only original show other than Grace which is worth watching now is The Closer, which returns next month. They are showing a lot of syndicated shows, many of which I like, but which are also available on other channels. If TNT has any sense at all, they will find another production studio and keep Grace on the air.

Just another network I won’t watch anymore. I stopped watching USA when they took off The Dead Zone and 4400. All the good shows are taken off and all the reality shows are kept on which are brainless. What about those of us who like to watch intelligent TV?

Dear Katie15, I am sorry that you haven’t gotten into Leverage…it is a fun show, to me a very updated Mission Impossible. I like the characters and that they always get he job done while making me laugh out loud several times during each eposode. That being said, I agree entirely that Saving Grace is one of the best shows on the air. I have suggested that writing to Rupert Murdoch, owner of the production company and a lot of other things, with a request to fire that idiot Emiliano (the one who refuses to produce any more episodes of SavingGrace) might be a way to start.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo! Or as they say in Oklahoma, “Do wut?” I love this show! The cast is outstanding and every one of them has a new fan, me! Lately I’ve seen quite a few of them on some of their earlier projects and quickly noticed their talent. After seeing them separately, then as an ensemble, I’m convinced the casting person for SG is a true genius! Good eye!
Not only is it sad that we will not get to see them in Saving Grace, it is even sadder that a quality show depicting life somewhere other than New York, LA , Miami or Vegas will be taken off the air. If for not that reason alone, PLEASE reconsider. One of the reasons I began watching the show was because I grew up in Tulsa. Daddy was a truck driver and sometimes would let me go with him to Oklahoma City, Stroud, McAlester, Enid, etc… Admittedly it’s been fun re-visiting childhood times through watching SG. I am deeply saddened to see it end.

Seriously. I hate these networks. You’ll keep crappy shows like law and order running and leverage but you’ll end one of the best shows I’ve ever seen! I absoutely LOVE Saving Grace and can’t believe the show would lose any popularity? The show has a great cast. They’ve cleaned Grace up a bit so I don’t know why they would cancel the show? The story lines aren’t bad either. Just when I get use to the idea of Earl being around all the time damnit! Alot of fine actors will be out of work un-necessarily. This sucks.

I’ve watched a few episodes and its an alright show but i think holly wants to retire. But Southland is rising and i encourage you people to watch it. I think it beats shows like Raising the Bar, Saving Grace and That other show where with Kevin Bacons wife. But if you email TNT enough and buy DVDs im sure the show will be brought back. I mean we brought back Family Guy and Southland that way so give it a whirl if you people want it back.

We all can see by the quality of mcinep’s spelling and typing that Saving Grace is entirely too intelligent for him/her. Yes, I make typos, but even the phraseology shows a lack of ability to understand and appreciate a show as welll-written and acted as Saving Grace.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we now see the level of audience being sought by TNT and Fox Studios. That is who they want to please and that is the caliber of person they are trying to create with the shows they produce. Fox Studios, which is refusing to produce any more Saving Grace seasons, is owned by Rupert Murdoch and headed by an Italian. This is what they think of American standards. mcinep is their audience. Congratulations.

I really enjoy this show and am very sad to see it end. I love the acting and the stories..it really stinks that the networks think that we only have the brains for the reality show mentality. I will miss this show, the thoughts about a last chance angle and the down to earth characters fashioned after normal, everyday people. We are all flawed and this show makes you feel good about life.. I wish I had my own Earl. He is great.

I love this show! Please Please don’t stop it! Finally a show that I love and watch re-runs over and over I love it so much. Even my teen-agers love it as well as older people! It’s great g=for all ages and it actually has a moral to it’s story! Give Holly Hunter 5 more million to stay!
Why is it whenever there is a hit show like Saving Grace it’s going off the air so soon, why doesn’t someone at TNT figure a way to keep it! I know Holly Hunter is perfect for this roll and I would hate to see her leave, but if it’s her idea replace her with another woman! At least the show could stay on. I only just heard about Grace last night — Oh, no! Another of my favorite shows bites the dust! So much for nuanced drama and fine acting! But there’s no need to dump on Southland (without even having seen it — you can’t go by the previews). It’s another really great show, very well written and acted, with a strong ensemble cast (and even a strong female detective as one of the lead characters). I’m very glad it has been saved!

I think it is terrible that the show is discontinuing. The show’s ratings were great when it followed “the Closer”. Maybe put it back on Monday and check the ratings. I think that the show gives everyone a sense of being with their lives and religious beliefs. It sure does make one think!

Re comment by mcinep… we all have different tastes, and I agree that Saving Grace is not everybody’s cup of tea. So let me suggest this, since this is a blog primarily dedicated to our outrate that Saving Grace is being removed after this season, please do yourself a favor. The next time you see Grace on your widescreen, push the little button on your remote that changes the channel and watch something else. Something that has no texture or meaning. Cheaters would be a good one, try that.
The rest of us know what a loss it is for the show to be discontinued, the cast of Grace has become family to so many of us. So while we mourn the passing of Grace, you can continue to channel surf and hopefully you’ll find something that touches your heart.

I have seen advertisements for the NEW SEASON of Southland…
the ads, which are supposed to be the best and most alluring scenes, make me cringe. From what they’ve shown me, there is no redeeming social value at all, just a lot of cops being “bad cops” – AND YET they are cancelling Grace?? Southland’s ads remind me of The Shield, which glorified a bunch of bad cops. Where is the redeeming social value? At least Earl is working on Grace, making her face her actions. I’ll say it again, this is the European way of telling us what they think of us. We are violent, with no redeeming social value.

I am really getting tired of the networks! They really don’t ever see that they have things right! They seem to end series that are great like Saving Grace, and keep producing shows that I never watch and never would! This is a real great show love all the cast members! I love how different each character is and how they make one big family. They always keep you on your toes. You never know what they are going to do. Prodictable is boring! It is about time they show life from a realistic point of view, ( We are all different and we are just one big family, no matter how messy it is! That is what makes us great)

Chrissie – the ones who pulled the plug on Saving Grace are Emiliano Calemzuk who was hired by by Peter Chernin to take over News Corp.’s Fox Television Studios. Chernin brought in a guy who spent 5 years in Italy. Write them. I have suggested that Emiliano is the one who should be cancelled! This guy is contributing to the dumbing down of America…removing Grace and Earl removes reasons to think. Instead, TNT is giving us reruns of shows with no redeeming qualities, just violence.

I truly do not see how this show could be any more expensive to produce than any other show on the market. The only special effects are Earl’s wings and the occasional trip to the Grand Canyon. I think that some fundamentalist in a position of authority is offended by Grace’s lifestyle, even though she is in process of learning how her actions affect others, and has decided to quit producing it based on his own set of morals. Never mind the fan base, the quality of writing and acting and the Emmy nominations. Fox Studio Production Co. should be ashamed at itself for kowtowing to this in-house censor. This is a fine show and deserves to be left on the air!!

I like the way the show’s characters are growing. Grace’s redemption needs to happen. I love Earl the angel. This show has a lot of merit and it’s a thinking person’s type of TV. I hope you resurrect it in a movie format or some other venue. It’s one of the few good shows that isn’t that reality crap. If I wanted to see that, I’d go downtown Dallas!
I hope it and The Closer return.

It saddens me that Saving Grace won’t be continuing. Unfortunately the Studio Executive that made the decision is only looking @ the bottom-line. This is the problem with our society in general, too much “bottom-line and not enough quality. There are many viewers that don’t enjoy the multitude of “reality shows”. On what planet are any of these shows reality? Most of us are like Grace, we struggle everyday with real issues, relationships, and heart aches.

But the exploration of crime, connections of strangers, and of course angels (bringing F Murray Abraham in was good), consequences are all important and vital to the show. And Holly Hunter is absolutely amazing!…. as always
