On Sunday night, ABC aired a new reality competition series. So, how did Shark Tank do? Did it succeed in the ratings or was it eaten alive by the competition?
From The Apprentice’s Mark Burnett, Shark Tank gives budding entrepreneurs the chance to make their dreams come true. To do that, they must convince five tough, multi-millionaires to part with their own hard-earned cash and give them the funding they need to jumpstart their ideas. The five are Robert Herjavec, Kevin O’Leary, Barbara Corcoran, Kevin Harrington, and Daymond John.
But the show’s not as one-sided as it may seem. The business people are looking for solid investments and, once the “sharks” find a project they like, they negotiate to take as big a percentage of the profits as possible. How far is either side willing to go?
After weeks of promotion, Shark Tank debuted on Sunday, August 9th at 9pm. The premiere attracted an average of just 4.23 million viewers with a low 1.3/4 rating/share in the 18-49 demographic. The first half-hour was in fourth place for total viewers and the second half-hour rose just a bit to place in third. The entire hour was in fourth place in the all-important demographic and lost a huge chunk of its lead-in audience.
If the show continues to tank like this, it certainly won’t have much of a future on the network. ABC reportedly still has 12 episodes left to air. Six of them are scheduled to run on Sunday nights and then Shark Tank’s set to switch to Tuesday evenings. Unless the numbers get better, it seems unlikely that ABC will keep those plans.
What do you think? Is the show worth watching or should the network throw in the towel and cancel it already?

Wow, I usually consider myself an expert on good and bad TV shows, and the reason for this is because I’m usually right on.
This show is terrific because it’s real, no acting . These are real negotiations. And, what I like most is the follow up done by your show with the people who actually cut deals with the Sharks. I think it also gives viewers a perspective on what new products are trying to make it to the marketplace. It also tells viewers that if you’re creative, you too might be able to cut a deal someday, even if it’s with a SHARK!
Please keep the show. There has to be a time slot that’s perfect for a show like this. It should be on the air for a long time. At least as long as the “Apprentice”.
I can’t wait for the new season to air. I’ve been a fan of reality shows but this is different, it’s very informative, small entrepreneurs can benefit by just watching the show, I too want to know what kind of business the tycoon thinks will give them profit.
This is the Best show that has aired in years! I have designed a product and have gotten it to market and it is no easy task. The energy and wit of the investors is perfect! Please do not cancel this show. We have been waiting to see its return.
Kind regards,
My wife and I love this show. It would be a shame to see it go. There are so many other crappy shows that could be canceled, why ruin something so good?
please keep shark tank going!!! one of the best shows to watch that is on tv today! thank you
I find the show, “Shark Tank” fresh and exciting! I find myself getting nervous for the people pitching their business ideas or concept. I enjoy it the most when more than one shark has an interest in a new pitch or product and they start to out bid each other! In my opinion Robert is a shark with a heart and Kevin O’Leary is a shark that had is heart eaten right out of him. The 5 five sharks are a perfect group… well done!! Finally some good TV to watch! Bring it back… give me more!
PLEASE!!!!! KEEP SHARK TANK SHOW GOING. WE LOVE THIS SHOW. WE
ALWAYS MADE SURE WE WATCHED IT AND REALLY MISS THE SHOW.
