Smash: Cancelled? NBC Drama Sent to Saturdays

Smash canceledSmash has been sent packing. The musical drama will finish its season on Saturday nights. While the peacock network hasn’t said that the show’s been cancelled, there’s no way they’re bringing it back for a third season.

Smash follows a cast and production team in New York as they try to mount a new Broadway musical. This season, the ensemble cast includes Debra Messing, Christian Borle, Katharine McPhee, Jack Davenport, Megan Hilty, Anjelica Huston, Leslie Odom Jr., Jeremy Jordan, Krysta Rodriguez, and Andy Mientus.

Last season, Smash was a moderate success for NBC, thanks in part to the strong lead-in support from The Voice. It averaged a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.74 million total viewers.

This season, Smash has really suffered without the reality competition’s support. The six episodes that have aired thus far have averaged a mere 1.0 in the demo with 3.48 million.

Other than Fashion Star on Friday nights, Smash is currently NBC’s lowest-rated series.

While there’s no way NBC will be making a third season, there is positivenews. NBC appears to be commited to letting the remaining 11 episodes air. Smash will start running on Saturday nights on April 6th, at 9pm.

What do you think? Are you sad about Smash’s fate? Do you like the show this season?

This year’s Smash has been a downer for me. Musical numbers not as good; story line a bit boring. Last year was great. Get new writers and give it one more chance!

It’s a shame that they cancelled smash I really loved it so much, maybe because I love Maralyn , they have so much junk showers on I really don’t believe in this rating they keep pushing in our paces let the public really vote by phone like they do for dwts and American idol.

Please renew, its one of the better shows that NBC has. I am really sick of these reality shows, what crap, but NBC doesnt seem to be doing too good, maybe they should listen to the people.

I loved Smash the first season when they focused on Karen and Ivy and Bombshell. I loved the music and went around with it in my head for days. This year, Karen and Derek both left for Hit List and everything has revolved around J.Jordan who I don’t care for. If I wanted to watch Glee – I would watch it instead. And enough with the guest stars that really don’t fit into the episodes (they are not moving the story forward instead it just takes time away from the already great cast). Let the season 1 performers tell their stories and go back to the Marilyn storyline (Karen is wonderful in it and Ivy is a really good troublemaker). The season 2 music has not been near as good as the Bombshell music.

Get rid of the writers and the Jimmy character because Karen doesn’t need another loser for a boyfriend….remember her ex………I think she is more intelligent then that. Also, the the cast should be together again in one broadway show which made the show more interesting with a lot of drama. I look forward to watching Smash every week and I couldn’t wait until the 2nd season started. I love all the cast members except the Jimmy character so, PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL this show!!!!!

PLEASE KEEP SMASH!!!!! This is the best show on tv by far. It is smart, inspiring and beautiful to watch. It is a fantastic family opportunity to see Broadway, and we all love it.
Smash brings something very special to those of us who want to watch a tv show with real talent with a PLOT!

It’s clear that ‘ Smash’ was going to be canceled…It did not remain fresh…It lost it’s mojo…..It became scattered ……………Although it was great to hear some great songs and to see some great dance sequences it never found an audience..Fact is….It just lost a story line…Sorry…..Done…

Why NBC? Why? Smash is one of the best shows on television. There is so much talent on this shows and it deserves a third season. It is the one show that has brought family entertainment to my home. It gives us an opportunity to sit down together and watch quality programming. Like another poster said earlier this show gives those who don’t have an opportunity to attend broadway shows a chance to experience it from home. Please give Smash an opportunity to shine. It’s rare to find a program that is original and entertaining that actually has a good plot. PLEASE don’t replace it with some mindless reality tv show because I and I’m sure most Americans are fed up with them.

I love Smash, not always on in my area. Wasn’t on last night. Had to watch on computer
Don’t cancel. I don’t watch many shows but love this one.

I love the show. I watch it every week with my middle school aged daughter. She and I are both sad that the show will be canceled. Please give it one more shot! DO NOT CANCEL SMASH!!!!

I LOVE this show. Everybody on it is so talented. For those of us who can’t afford a Broadway ticket, this is the next best thing. I would actually go see Bombshell if it was ever produced in real life.

My advice, lose the Jimmy character. He’s not likable. I can’t imagine any intelligent woman putting up with his behavior and attitude, no matter how talented he is.

Give Smash a chance to revamp while on hiatus. Then give it back a good time slot.
