I can’t believe they are cancelling this awesomoe show. The actors were great, the themes were great…all for Jay Leno….YUCK!!! I didn’t like him when he was on the Tonight Show, let alone watch him in his own show. Southland was and still is a great show. I just hope another network picks it up and lets NBC see what a mistake they made in not renewing this show.

oh and one more thing. i really need to find out what happened to the white cop/detective dude who got shot in the doorway of a neighbor’s house during an outdoor bbq/party. i can’t remember the character’s name off the top of my head. and the black chic cop/detective is one bad ass! she’s my favorite female character. and of course ben (ben mckenzie) is hot and his partner has awesome one-liners. one of the best “this is a front row seat to the greatest show on earth!”

this show blows me away!!! i heard myself yelling out and smiling as i watched saying “OH MY GOD, I FREAKIN LOVE THIS FREAKIN SHOW!!” if nbc is stupid enough to let this gem of a show go, then the network DESERVES to be in fourth place!!! i mean come on! the directing rocks, the actors portray real life reactions to real life situations. and very well, too. the way that it DOES have the occasional (but not too much at all) bleeped out word, makes it feel that much more real… WITHOUT BEING ANOTHER REALITY SHOW!! thank god nbc found some REAL talent and hopefully will be smart enough to let it live and grow on as it WILL grow on more and more viewers. i also hope they give a good timeslot that it deserves! LONG LIVE SOUTHLAND!!

to me it means a lot to see this show i am from Los Angeles,CA . I am currently in Virginia . To me is a way to see LA all over again i feel like i am there. My family had a lot of running with the cops and the episodes are really like LA. ACTUALLLY THE episodes are still very sugar coated but all in all it is very good. I hope this show has several seasons.

I have to agree with the comments about the bleeping of the language. It’s okay every once in a while but not every sentence. Also I do agree there really needs to be more action, especially when it’s the detectives there was one episode it was only based on them it was really boring. You need to have action with them too not just the cops!! Overall I really like the show, however, it’s raw and will take some time to get used to this new take on tv. At least it’s not another reality show enough already!!!!!!

the show is tough, i like the whole vibe of it, i believe when something just start outs it is hard to convey your whole idea, but given some time and good feedback i think this show has potential to grow legs. this derailed episode was crazy. im black, but im tired of hearing this race sh** all the time, the fact is, crime is crime and it commited by every race…the change will happen, the shows good!!!

The premise of the show is good, but we need better writers. Just about ALL the criminals are black. ALL are gang members, doing drive by shootings, killing witnesses, and generally behaving in the stereotypical way.

This show is borderline racist. Look at other cop dramas—Law and Order, CSI, Criminal Minds–we see a variety of criminals.

The bleeping of cuss words also sucks. AND we never get closure to the crimes.

I’m not sure if i want to continue watching this show.

Racist? Are you people for real? Maybe the show should be all fiction and not depict what Los Angeles truly is. Los Angeles is a very diverse City and guess what, black people and other races commit crimes. So the show actually depicts real life events as they occur in Los Angeles. Kudos to the producers of this show. The show is no where close to being racist and does and great job depicting real life crime drama in the City if Angels and shows the police in their true state. Men and women like the rest of us doing a job that most people don’t even have the balls to do, Keep the show going! Job well done.

By the way, I am not a Sharpton, Jesse Jackson or Jerimiah Wright exstreamist. Not that I consider the opinions these men hold as being exstream. In fact, I am a proud Black Canadian female who does not wish to see people who look like me objectified to fit a stereotype. This show seems to lack balance and the minority actors seem more like props, void of any real emotion with the exception of the token Black female cop. As viewers it’s our responsibility to critique how were being portrayed and determine if your going to continue watching. That’s not playing the race card. Thats responding to the race card.

I agree this show is racist and cant help but notice every criminal has brown skin. I cant believe I am still seeing shows like this on TV. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a show seperate the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ based on skin colour. This type of programing is a reflection of the network that has created and aired it. I am about 15 minutes into the eposide that has two Black men stealing one of the cops guns and have decided to turn it off. This will be the last time I watch the show and will be contacting the network to give my opinion as a viewer.

This show is racist..all young blacks are portrayed as gang bangers and drug pushers. Every crime suspect is minority of some kind while the coppers are all squeeky clean white and they justify this by casting couple of token blacks in the force..

Clean it up or cancel it. Over all….the show has great potential BUT when language needs to be “bleeped” so often, it takes away from the show. I thought maybe it was just the first episode. So we watched it the 2nd week, when it was bleeped even more, we decided not to watch it any more (didn’t even finish that episode).

This show was GREAT!! Can’t wait for more! KEEP IT ON!!! And lets get forget these RACIST remarks posted here. it is a clear indication of the diversity seen in the Precinct Level in LA. As for Northbeach and Justice for all, they don’t have a clue! I am an African American woman who lives in LA and I am very happy to see the lead detective as aan African American woman and love that they brought in one of the stars of Shield! By the way he is an African American too! So get over this RACIST crap you can’t seem to leave behind and join the real world! You both sound like individuals that need to concentrate on joining marches with Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, or Jerimiah Wright. We are a much more forward looking people and sometimes it is our people who seems much more racist than any of the white folks I know or work with.

Watch the first half hour, but the interested faded away. There is no real plot or story line and I can guarantee that it will slowly become redundant as the episodes continues if it lasts.

Wouldn’t it be more purposefully on just watching Cops to get the gist of the REAL thing?

This show is pure b.s..
There’s no way the writers are from L.A.. Who the hell can conceive of a police force in one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the country being so white dominated?
It pains me to think that somehow the producers thought it ok to only show “minorities” (remember this is supposed to be L.A. – whites are the minority in many parts) as criminals, victims and gang bangers.
Also, I vote against using real gang names (i.e. Grape Street). It only serves to boost their reputation.
Boycott this janky ass show.

This show looks like it will be a solid drama if given half a chance, which is rarely done these days by the networks, it seems nowadays that the only way to ensure watching a full season of a show is if it was made for a cable network.

I am not sure about the series yet. Will watch again this week. It moves slow for me with not much of a story line. It was good but not great. Don’t really care for the way the series is set up. It goes from one thing to another, not any true connection to anyone or closure on things that happen such as the policeman getting shot because the criminal wasn’t searched due to the shot cops decision. Then what no real closure. The rookie cop didn’t even get upset about it.

John Wells is clearly out of his element here with this contrived racist Cop Drama.

His caucasian mostly male dominating police force, breaks down doors in the seedy, dangerous oh so spooky neighborhoods, of Los Angeles with no Latin cops or Male Black officers anywhere. Its not only ridiculous but a slap in the face to all hispanic and black officers in the LAPD and if it wasn’t so offensive its almost laughable!

The OTHERNESS created by this Southland on NBC is evident throughout. From the opening gang scene, to the interview with the black teenage girls who witnessed the shooting, to the angry large mad black woman who comes and picks them up and yells out (statements from the white writers no doubt) “These kids are shooting each other because they are wearing the wrong color or ARE the wrong color?? as the officers sheepishly answer “Yes Mam they are”…who the hell wrote this racist contrived crap!

We cannot allow this Systemic Instituional racist mindset disquised as a glossy hollywood cop drama to exist. They fuel hate and instil fear toward the poor working class. Especially when the lead character calls patrolling these neighborhoods like cruising a sewer on a glass bottom boat.
Shows like these that blatantly reinforce stereotypes are an injustice not only to Blacks and Hispanics but to Humanity.

I thought the show was good, if not great. It made me want more and that’s not an every day thing. Pilot episodes are usually hard to do. You have to set up so much of a back story and still fit in the new/current events. I felt the show was lacking just a little because it was trying to cram all of this in. Give it another episode or two and I think it will flow nicely. I didn’t watch the premier the night it aired. (I taped it on my DVR) However, I plan on watching future episodes the night they’re on!

Saw it thursday nite and watched it again on CTV in Canada sat nite. Its going to be a winner. Love the gritty fast paced acting ,editing and role of the camera as an agitated participant . As a cop told me once” its the only job you would ever have were you have to wash your hands before you go to the bathroom” the pilot of Southland showed that reality.Looking forward to more!

I have something to say that southland is a good show but some people don’t understand the show very much. To Me its not the same is the TV show ER and i just wish ER makes a movie for TV only Or on the big screen and dvd and VHS. I will be watching Southland more to see the guy who guest star in ER Tom Everett Scott. Southland is an ok show but I just wish John Wells made a show thats more Medicial like the TV Show ER.

i thought that it was a very good show. I think that it will catch on, or atleast i hope so. the way shows have gone at NBC, i don’t get my hopes up to much about them anymore. I like the times slot that it is in, the problem that i see is all the shifting around of shows anymore. i think, and i am not an expert on time slots and ratings and what not, but if they could just start it out in a time slot and leave it there, people wouldn’t be so confused as to when it is on. we alread know that if it makes it some time, that it will have to change time slot for the new jay leno show. So i hope they find a home for it, and it makes it. it is a really good show, and i feel they are finally, after so many years, they are on to something.

I watched it, and it was pretty good…the problem is, it’s like 20 other cop shows that have come before it-the new rookie is from a rich family and doesnt want anyone to know, and other oft used plot devices. Also, as someone who has lived in LA all my life, I can tell you that, if you work North Hollywood division you won’t be running calls at 116th and something. Whats the matter, the valley not “Ghetto” enough for a cop show? There’s pacoima, you know…..

Also, this does show LA, and LAPD, pretty much like it is. I don’t think it will catch on nationally, because people from LA wont want to watch it, and people in South Dakota, won’t get it. But it was OK.
