Does anyone know where this proposed idea has reached? Is the project going forth? We need a new series, I'd like them to complete ST: Enterprise as it was unduly cut short when it's fan base maintained the same size as all other ST shows. Perhaps once the movie is released we will be entertained by many more shows :D

I have always felt that the fundamental difference between Star Wars and Star Trek's popularity is the size of their expanded universes.
Star Wars has for decades been something writers can delve into and extend providing they dont ret-con existing storylines.

Star Trek on the other hand has been a rather closed universe. Roddenberry even went as far as to say that the Animated Series which he himself created and oversaw was not canon along with many of the seemingly "official" books.
We got what Gene and later Rick Berman gave us and we had to like it or lump it. Luckily, most of us, usually loved it.
Star Trek novels have been very popular, but you'll never see anything from a novel or game on the TV or cinema screen.

This is the exact opposite from Star Wars where even Disneyworld's Star Tours ride is canon along with video games such as Lego Star Wars.
But now that Star Trek has finally opened the floodgates for writers to extend it officially, the franchise may become alot healthier.

The public will get the chance to watch, play, read or ignore new realms, new spin-offs; all pulling in different directions.
By watching or buying we can control the direction the universe will take and for the first time experience some of the broad and ever expanding space that Star Wars fans have enjoyed for decades.
