It’s been almost 20 years since actor George Takei last appeared in a Star Trek movie as Hikaru Sulu. He’s played the part a few times since then; in audio books, video games, and a 1996 episode of Star Trek: Voyager called “Flashback.” A “Captain Sulu” TV series was considered in the 1990s but never came to fruition.
Takei recently slipped on his uniform one more time, this time for an unusual mission — to inform same-sex couples about their options when filling out the Census. For the first time in history, the US Census will be counting same-sex marriages. Visit Equal Roots for more information.
