Both CBS and NBC have launched new TV shows that revolve around smart blonde women who hold important government positions in Washington, DC. CBS’ Madam Secretary has already been renewed for a second season. What will happen to NBC’s State of Affairs? Will it be renewed or cancelled?
State of Affairs follows a top CIA analyst (Katherine Heigl) who assembles the President of the United States’ Daily Briefing (PDB), weighing the vital security issues that face the nation. She has a close personal relationship with the commander-in-chief (Alfre Woodard) as she was once engaged to the president’s now-deceased son. The rest of the cast of this dramatic thriller includes Adam Kaufman, Sheila Vand, Cliff Chamberlain, Tommy Savas, and David Harbour.
Taking over for NBC’s highly-rated series The Blacklist, State of Affairs debuted in November to a healthy 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.69 million viewers. It was a solid start that was no doubt aided by its strong lead-in The Voice. Some people were also possibly expecting to find a new episode of The Blacklist in the timeslot instead.
In week two, despite still having a strong lead-in, State of Affairs’ ratings dropped more than 36% to a 1.4 in the demo with 5.39 million. They rose up a bit in week three but have been falling ever since. Last week’s installment hit new series lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.62 million viewers.
Though NBC had high hopes for this series, State of Affairs is just not measuring up. The network is poised to finish airing the 13 episode season (there are four episodes remaining after tonight’s) but it’s hard to imagine that they’d consider renewing it for a second season with poor ratings like these.
NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt recently said, “I’m disappointed in what it’s been doing [in the ratings] the last couple of weeks… It’s a show that I think is a really fine show, so I’m scratching my head a little bit about why we can’t get more people to be there for it.”
There’s still time for the numbers to improve but it doesn’t seem likely they’d be good enough to save the show. Hopefully the season finale will offer viewers some measure of closure to the ongoing storylines.
But, what do you think? Do you like the State of Affairs TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or renew the series for a second season? How would you improve this show if it was renewed?
Great show. Please keep it.
Great show and Heights is an intelligent and sexy lead star. Please keep the series going.Thete is so much drama in DC to keep good stories for the show’s theme. GOOD LUCK TO US.
I love this show! Please renew it.
I love this series, especially with a black woman president who is being bombarded by REAL politics and unscrupulous people. I am white so not about race about change and strong people, men and women. I love that Charlie shot him dead, was the worst kind of ego maniac.
This show is about two women in power who are running the world as they see fit. Hiegl is a actor you love to hate. She is cold and you cannot cheer her on, perhaps a male side kick or a twist in the president changing to a man. You have got to even up the sides. We see to much of Hiegl and lets face it – she is not humble like Madam Secretary–
i don’t want the peon in charge of counter terrorism to be humble. this is a great very realistic show,
Your comment says much more about you than about the show. Obviously can’t handle women being in power. Unfortunately, too many people have that attitude. We need more powerful women as role models.
RENEW!!!!!!!!! Please please please please renew the show!!!! I am so inlove with it and totally addicted to it!!
RENEW!!!!!!!!! Please please please please renew the show!!!! I am addicted to it!!
Renew , renew…it’s “our show”!
RENEW! This show is awesome and it keeps making you think with all the twists and turns. And I so want to know who was warning Charley in the end…. so hope it was Nick.
Please renew , I love this program !
Absolutely love this show. It has all the right things to be a success. Please do not cancel.
Charlie is a beautiful and talented woman! Give the show another try!
Please keep this show! It has definitely proven the early PROFESSIONAL reviewers to be a bunch of haters on KH whereas the rest of us can get OVER ourselves and move the hell on. She is proving herself a fine actor and the show’s consistent quality in acting and plotline is certainly worth another season to let the viewing audience have another chance to enjoy and promote it. I mean for goodness’ sake that absolute NONSENSICAL cop show starring Kevin Bacon’s wife stuck around for quite a while. Upon first viewing that show I thought it was a SPOOF on… Read more »
Renew please, We’re hooked on it !!
RENEW! RENEW! RENEW! You cannot leave it as it is. At least finish the story line. Did Nick survive? Did Charlie?
Please renew this show. I love it
