I was devastated to learn that the Network has allegedly cancelled Studio 60. It was finally a show that dared to be a little different and combined excellent acting with superb comic timing.
It was almost as though the show was written for Matthew Perry and for me, has established him as an actor with range who should be taken seriously. I simply can’t believe that the network would bail on this so soon.
Bring it back!

My daughter and I are BIG fans and hope this show survives. We DVR it every week and watch it a couple days later, so probably wouldn’t count in the ratings. The writing is witty, dialog is quick, actors are good and work well together. I sure hope it’s around to watch soon, we’ve missed it…..

OK, I am a fan of studio 60 but some of these comments are wrong. First off, Nielsen does count shows that are DVR, TIVO’d as long as they are watched within 7 days. Second I hate hearing people say that the ratings are low because people aren’t smart enough. I thought that West Wing was a lot smarter and it had great ratings. I think a lot of people just aren’t interested in the behind the scenes look at a late night comedy show. I don’t think it’s as funny as it could be either although it has it’s moments. All that being said, I love the characters, the banter and dialogue but I understand why people aren’t watching. I too hope it gets another chance but I think they need to up the ante.

Studio 60 deserves to be saved, but when did that ever make a difference. The U.S. audience continually demands/receives slop like Wife Swap, Super Nanny & Pussycat Dolls. How could anyone expect a program with some substance to survive. After all, air crap on Monday, sell shampoo on Tuesday.

It always amazes me when a network says they are cancelling a show because it loses x% of the viewers from the show that airs before it. Right, like people don’t have a remote control and a TV Guide in front of them. The whole lead-in thing is a joke. Especially when the hit show in question is about superheroes and the following show is a smart and funny drama. Then add in that it’s opposite a hit show on another network, and what do they expect?

Of course, this is coming from the same network that put Conviction on following Las Vegas and complained that it was losing most of Las Vegas’ viewers. It’s hard to imagine a bigger gap in demographics than that. What, it didn’t occur to you geniuses to put it on following Law & Order?

What’s even more frightening is that Heroes and Las Vegas are hit shows. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

S60 is the only show that I consistently make sure I’m home for, and if I miss it I watch it online. Many weeks, when the show ends, we just sit there for a few seconds and then finally will say something like, “That was awesome. I wish it could be on for another hour.” The premise is brilliant and I especially appreciate the story line about Harriet and her struggles as a born-again Christian in a decidedly non-Christian environment. Thanks for the great way it has been handled. PLEASE keep this show on the air!

It is to this show’s credit that not everyone liked it. That means it appealed to a more discerning viewer than 13 year old giddy girls who say “like” before every verb. I will miss this show. It had some annoying moments, but a first year show always has bugs to iron out. I think that with the talent involved, it would have developed quite well.
I cannot see why the powers that be cannot find some channel in its lineup to keep this show going. I have a bunch of channels on the remote and I would make an effort to find it.

I am one of those TiVo users who forwards right through the commercials, so I can understand an ad-driven network’s resistance to counting me in the ratings, but I know there are more like me who would be willing to pay for such high quality, smart, funny, socially relevant programming. My favorite shows are on NBC–Scrubs, The Office, and Studio 60. My plea to the network, reiterating many above comments, is they they show the courage to do more than other networks are doing–pandering to the lowest common denominator. TV, like it or not, has a chokehold on the American public (watch any child engrossed in a Dora episode), and that much input into the thoughts of an under-educated and under-stimulated generation of Americans comes with the responsibility to raise the bar, to demand more.

I hope you’re right .. I love the show. However a point must be made in all fairness … the ratings have only steadily declined. And if people are Tivo’ing the show then they aren’t exactly stopping for the commercials. Zucker has just been promoted to head cheese and the pressure will be on to do something .. and I find it hard to imagine that they would continue a show this pricey with so little to show for after 16 weeks.

I love Studio 60. I was skeptical at first, but it’s one of my favorites now. I especially like Amanda Peet’s character. It’s not everyday you see the sucessful executive business woman as a mother too. I think she’s a great role model.
I hope the series comes back.
We record it, but sometimes we watch the commercials we really like such as Apple & PC commercials.

Folks, maybe the time has come for a shift in the economic model. Would 4 million Studio 60 fans pay $10 to receive 3 episodes of the show–ad free? Kick in a sponsor or two and we pay less–or get more shows. Point is, who needs a network anymore. Let’s move cableTV-type thinking (programming, I mean) to a non-ad driven/must make gonzo profits downloadable model. We pay $3 for Starbucks…$10 for movies…$4 for magazines…why not subscribe, like magazines, to a TV show?

When will the networks learn? They’ve got a great writer, great cast, and a great premise. Give it a little time, and it will find its audience–the affluent, educated demographic they seek. I am going to add my voice to those above in thanking you for such a positive, thoughtful article about this amazing show. I have been a fan of Aaron Sorkin’s since very early in the first season of “The West Wing” and I feel that “Studio 60″ is on the same path as that other piece of creative genius. Tonight’s episode has generated a lot of discussion for both the storyline and the storytelling. I add my “crossed everything” for a second and third season, to which Mr Zucker has made illussions.

Every time I read something saying it’s “ehhh,” I wonder, “What are these people talking about?” It’s smart, it’s brisk, it has characters I really care about, and when I heard NBC was shelving it I was really very, very disappointed. I haven’t gotten this hooked on a new show since ER started. I appreciate these comments that will hopefully save this intelligent and gorgeously written show from being replaced by yet another stupid reality show. C’mon NBC, give something a chance that DOESN’T cater to the lowest common denominator.

Finally someone who sees Studio 60 for what it is! The comments above are right: every week this show gets better. Hopefully NBC will start to hear from people like you who have their own opinions instead of the nutbars who think its cool to hate it (yet they can’t help but watch it!). Studio 60 is the best show on the air, and for all people’s complaining that Sorkin is rehashing, I say phewft! Danny Tripp and Matt Albie are taking us to a place that none of Sorkin’s characters ever went before.
