Surprise with Jenny McCarthy: Plans for New NBC TV Series Cancelled

surprise with jenny mccarthy tv show cancelledLast May, NBC announced plans to air a new reality series called Surprise With Jenny McCarthy. Those plans have now been cancelled. The network described the program this way:

Actress, comedienne and best-selling author Jenny McCarthy hosts “Surprise With Jenny McCarthy,” a unique variety show that will treat the audience to a funny, irreverent and heart-warming television experience that centers around giving people surprises of a lifetime.

“Surprise With Jenny McCarthy” will spotlight multiple surprises within the one-hour episode — from dramatic reunions to surprise announcements to good-natured pranks with fantastic feel-good twists.

And, whether the surprise is an emotional roller coaster, a heartfelt thank-you, a hero’s reward or a slightly devilish prank with a happy ending, viewers get a chance to know the true stories of the people involved, which makes the payoffs all the more meaningful.

As ringleader, cheerleader, head instigator and mistress of ceremonies, McCarthy helps pull off all kinds of incredible surprises on people from all walks of life. Funny, touching, engaging, exciting and always unpredictable, “Surprise With Jenny McCarthy” will keep viewers laughing, crying and on the edge of their seats.

Arthur Smith (“Hell’s Kitchen,” “Kitchen Nightmares”) and Paul Buccieri are executive producers of the presentation from A. Smith & Co. and ITV Studios.

The show was expected to debut sometime this season but that won’t be happening. At the current TCA Winter Press Tour, Paul Telegdy, NBC’s President of Alternative and Late Night Programming, confirmed to The Futon Critic that Surprise with Jenny McCarthy wouldn’t be moving forward after all.

It seems that only the pilot was shot and NBC has now taken down the show’s page on their website.

What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that this show won’t be airing? Did it sound like it was worth watching?

Jenny McCarthy is just too full of herself to be very honest appearing to audiences. Even though the show seems like it might be making a sincere attempt at doing something really nice for people with its reunions, etc., no one wants a flaky blonde center stage taking all the bows for herself. Better luck to someone who would make a much better hostess than her.

I love Jenny but this turkey wasn’t gonna fly so NBC singled it out as garbage

People are tired of this kind of TV junk, and some of the network suits are beginning to realize this at last.

My dislike of her aside, I would not have watched that. Everything about it sounded boring and awful.
