TV show description:
This reality series searches for the best American inventor and is the concept of UK entrepreneur and producer Peter Jones.
After weeks of interviews, a group of 12 products and inventors are chosen by the show’s judges; Jones, Ed Evangelista, Mary Lou Quinlan, and Doug Hall. The initial group is broken down into four smaller groups of three, with focus given on a different group each week. Each inventor gets $50,000 to make their products better as they compete to become one of four finalists. In the live finale, the finalists present a commercial for their invention, with the audience at home voting for the winner.
In the second season the finalist pool is narrowed to just six semi-finalists, one from each audition city. They are each given $50,000 and one month to improve their product. The judges then narrow the competition to three finalists and once again, the home viewers vote on the winner.
Each season’s big winner receives business support, entrepreneurial counsel, physical resources, and a million dollars in prize money.
The winning product of the second season is the “Guardian Angel.” It’s a small, pressurized tank of water that’s disguised as a present and placed under a Christmas tree. The package is attached to a small hose that leads to the top of the tree where a fusible link is disguised as an angel. If the tree catches fire, the heat pops the link and water suppresses the fire. There is also an alarm that works without a battery to help get people out of a house alive.
First aired: August 1, 2007.
