“SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE” RETURNS FOR 12th SEASON IN SUMMER 2015

NEW “STAGE VS. STREET” FORMAT INTENSIFIES COMPETITION

FOX has renewed the Emmy Award-winning SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE for a 12th season. From 19 Entertainment, a division of CORE Media Group, and dick clark productions, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE will return in the summer of 2015 with a dramatic new twist.

Throughout the auditions, the dancers who advance will be placed into two teams – the STAGE dancers, featuring those trained in styles such as contemporary, ballet, jazz or tap; and the STREET dancers, hopefuls skilled in hip-hop, animation or breaking. As the auditions continue, the judges, along with each team’s All-Star Mentor, will eliminate dancers until only the Top 20 – 10 Street Dancers and 10 Stage Dancers – remain. When the competition goes “live,” the Top 20 will be challenged weekly to perform a variety of styles, working with world-renowned choreographers. One dancer from each genre will be eliminated each week leading up to the Season Finale. Who will win… a dancer from the stage or the street? Find out when SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE returns in summer 2015.

“SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE is a rare jewel. It combines high art with mass entertainment in a seamless, sophisticated and hugely satisfying way,” said Simon Andreae, Executive Vice President, Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “It’s produced and consumed with tremendous passion and it’s developed one of the most deservedly loyal followings in all of unscripted television. We are immensely proud to be returning it to the schedule with a thrilling new twist that will bring it up to date and introduce a whole new set of rooting opportunities.”

“The competition is going to be much more exciting for viewers and even more demanding for the dancers,” said co-creator and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe. “Dancers from different genres have always been competitive with each other and we’ve found a great way to harness that to bring out the absolute best performances in the best dancers across the country.”

Audition cities and dates to be announced soon.

In September, Ricky Ubeda was named the Season 11 winner during the live two-hour Season Finale. Miami native Ubeda, 18, received the most votes and danced off with the cash prize of $250,000, the cover of Dance Spirit Magazine and the offer of a role in the Broadway revival of “On The Town.” Ubeda also joined the rest of the Top 10 dancers for the Season 11 SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Live Tour, which visits 77 cities in the U.S. and Canada and runs through February 18, 2015 at the Scheels Arena in Fargo, ND. Ticket information and more details are available at www.fox.com/dance.

Over the course of its 11 seasons, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE has received 44 Emmy Award nominations and garnered 13 Emmy Award wins, including Outstanding Choreography for Mia Michaels (2011, 2010 and 2007); Napoleon and Tabitha Dumo (2014 and 2011); Tyce Diorio (2009); and Wade Robson (2008 and 2007). The hit series also received awards in the category of Outstanding Costumes in 2014, 2010 and in 2009, as well as awards in Outstanding Lighting Design in 2011 and 2012.
