The Singing Bee: Renewed for Season Five

Singing Bee renewed for season fiveHosted by Joey Fatone, The Singing Bee ran for one season on NBC (from July until December 2007) before being cancelled. It was later revived by CMT with Melissa Peterman (Working Class) as host. The new version started airing in June 2009 and became a big success.

There’s no word on how many episodes have been ordered this time around or when they’ll start airing. The number in past seasons have varied on CMT, ranging from nine to 20 episodes per cycle.

The Singing Bee

Contestants are challenged to sing popular song lyrics accurately in a variety of karaoke-style competitions. Each episode begins with an audience-wide sing-along and a small group of attendees are chosen by host Joey Fatone to compete on-stage. In the first round, the contestants are asked to fill in lyrics to a popular song and the first four to do so move on to the next round. Those who have been advanced are then paired up and compete in mini-games like Scrambled Lyrics, Karaoke Challenge, Blind Start, Playlist, and Singing with the Enemy. The two with the highest score move on to the Chorus Showdown in which they're each asked to sing the entire chorus of a song.
