The Chicago Code: FOX Drama Cancelled; No Season Two

Chicago Code canceledThe brave officers of The Chicago Code fight for what’s right in their fair city. Unfortunately, that battle doesn’t attract enough viewers to keep their TV show on the air. FOX has cancelled the cop show after one season.

Created by The Shield’s Shawn Ryan, The Chicago Code revolves around the officers of the Chicago Police Department. Veteran detective Jarek Wysocki (Jason Clarke) leads a special unit that fights against crime and corruption in the windy city. Others in the cast include Jennifer Beals, Matt Lauria, Devin Kelley, Todd Williams, Billy Lush, and Delroy Lindo.

The series debuted to an okay 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.43 million total viewers. In week two, it dropped 17% in the demo and the ratings kept dropping in subsequent weeks.

On May 2nd, The Chicago Code hit a series low with a meager 1.6 in the demo and 5.59 million viewers. Last Monday’s episode bumped up to a 1.7 rating but that’s still far from a good number.

Looking at FOX season averages, the cop TV series is the second lowest-rated drama still on the air (after Fringe on Friday nights).

FOX has now decided to cancel The Chicago Code after one season and 13 episodes. The remaining two unaired episodes will air on the next two Mondays, May 12th and May 23rd.

Ryan reacted on Twitter by writing, “Fox suits loved the show, but have a business to run.”

What do you think? Are you sorry there won’t be a second season? Why do you think this TV series didn’t catch on?

Unbelievable decision. Well done Fox, cancel a gritty drama series, no doubt to be replaced by some family friendly, happy ending, sugar coated rubbish :(

One of the best cop shows around, I have no idea why it didn’t catch on. Maybe because they aren’t squeaky clean? That is actually the appealing thing for me. I will definitely miss the series, it is great.

My husband and I love this program and wouldn’t miss it for anything! And I don’t know of one person that I’ve talked to that doesn’t think it was one of the greatest programs ever, especially on FOX. FOX would rather air the idiotic and slutty “cartoon” programs that appeal to kids who shouldn’t even be watching them in the first place. At last we get a really good adult drama and, what does FOX do, cancels it after one season for absolutely no apparent reason. Obviously, by all of the comments on here and on Facebook’s “Keep Chicago Code on FOX, there IS an audience who loves this program and wants it back. This will be FOX’s “last chance” with a lot of people, us included!! If you’re smart, you’ll BEG Shawn Ryan to write more Chicago Code episodes, for a very long time!!

This is a compelling, well written, directed, and acted show. I figured the powers that be in Chicago might have complained, since it hit so close to home.

What is really going on at Fox! This is another one of the shows I truly enjoyed. Bring back “Chicago Code”, just when the plot starts getting thicker you take it off leaving us with the suspense of what was going to happen next. This was a show that contain everything needed to make the viewer come back and watch it again and again. No more American Idol type of show….. Give ” Chicago Code” another chance!

FOX!…are you crazy? When this network first started it on series that the big three wouldn’t dare touch. Now you are beginning to be just like them. “The Chicago Code” was beginning to come into their on. How going back to the that “cutting edge” daring you were known for… bring back the “Code”.

They need to bring it back for season 2 and give it a chance. Maybe it was a bad
night or something. But I really feel it deserved another chance. Besides which
they need to tie up all the loose ends and not leave us hanging. I hate when the
big wigs decide to cancel a show without giving a fair warning and to leave every
one wondering what would have happened. Why not just finish the series giving
it a proper ending.

THIS WAS THE BEST NEW DRAMA ON TV THIS YEAR, BAR NONE. WHY DID YOU NOT PROMOT IT, AND GIVE IT A FAIR CHANCE TO LET MORE PEOPLE SEE SOME FINE ACTING AND SCRIPTS. SEEMS LIKE IT’S ALL ABOUT THE REALITY SHOWS, NOW, AND WE ARE SICK OF THEM. OF COURSE, THEY ARE MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE, SO THAT’S PART OF THE REASON. THE FINE ACTING BLACK MAN ON CHICAGO CODE WAS ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. YOU ALL DID A FANTASTIC JOB, AND HOPE YOU GO ON TO DO MORE GREAT WORK. THANKS FOR SHOWING US JUST HOW GOOD TV CAN REALLY BE. ARE YOU TOP DOGS LISTENING???? WE WANT THIS SHOW RENEWED!!!!
