The Closer: Reynolds Not Returning for Major Crimes Spin-Off

Corey Reynolds The CloserWhen Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgewick) leaves The Closer, she won’t be the only one saying goodbye. Though many of Sedgewick’s castmates will be returning for the Major Crimes spin-off, Corey Reynolds isn’t one of them.

Deadline reports that Reynolds declined the offer to return as Sgt. David Gabriel and has instead signed a talent holding deal with NBC.

A native of Richmond, Reynolds was primarily known for his work in musical theatre prior to his seven seasons on The Closer. The actor performed in touring productions of Smokey Joe’s Cafe and Saturday Night Fever before originating the role of Seaweed in Hairspray on Broadway. He was nominated for a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award for the role.

On television, he’s guested on procedurals like NCIS, CSI: Miami, Without a Trace, and Simon Baker’s pre-Mentalistshow, The Guardian.

It’s not known if Reynold’s NBC deal will preclude him for making guest appearances on the Closer spin-off. Starring Mary McDonnell, Major Crimes will be set-up in the final episodes of The Closer and has already been picked up for a 10 episode first season. It’s not yet known when TNT will begin airing them.

I absolutely love, love this show!! It appeals to all ages and genders. The scripts and story lines are great, the cast and characters are so good!!! I will really miss Brenda, and her family & handsome husband (hope they still appear) but I will watch as Capt Raydor becomes the new “closer” if the rest of the cast stay the same. They have great chemistry. This is a show I never miss and can watch over & over!!! I will definitely watch the spinoff – Major Crimes. I like that it will still be a female lead and Capt Raydor has softened and become much more likeable.

For some reason I have just got into The Closer and am watching all the shows from the beginning. I absolutely love this show and hate to see it end but was so excited to see Major Crimes beginning in August. The actors all work so well together and I am happy to see that all will be back but wish my favorite, Corey Reynolds, would also have signed on again. I am hoping he does make some guest appearances and wish him the best. He will be missed and hope to see him in some other venue in the future. Mary McDonnell is a great actress and will carry this show on for many seasons to come.

Without Kyra Sedgewick,I don’t think I will watch major crimes especially with Mary Mcdonald.I hate her character on the Closer and it stays with you even if they change her character.I know I wouldn’t want to see her as the main character. I find her very arrogant and how will they now make her in charge with the same other characters and have them work for her.

I will miss the Closer and I will miss seeing Reynolds character on the show he was awesome, His character and the chief had good chemistry. Wherever he moves on to, I know he will do and awesome job. I will be trying to find the new show he will be playing on. He is and awesome Actor. I wish they would keep the show on.
