The Closer: Reynolds Not Returning for Major Crimes Spin-Off

Corey Reynolds The CloserWhen Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgewick) leaves The Closer, she won’t be the only one saying goodbye. Though many of Sedgewick’s castmates will be returning for the Major Crimes spin-off, Corey Reynolds isn’t one of them.

Deadline reports that Reynolds declined the offer to return as Sgt. David Gabriel and has instead signed a talent holding deal with NBC.

A native of Richmond, Reynolds was primarily known for his work in musical theatre prior to his seven seasons on The Closer. The actor performed in touring productions of Smokey Joe’s Cafe and Saturday Night Fever before originating the role of Seaweed in Hairspray on Broadway. He was nominated for a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award for the role.

On television, he’s guested on procedurals like NCIS, CSI: Miami, Without a Trace, and Simon Baker’s pre-Mentalistshow, The Guardian.

It’s not known if Reynold’s NBC deal will preclude him for making guest appearances on the Closer spin-off. Starring Mary McDonnell, Major Crimes will be set-up in the final episodes of The Closer and has already been picked up for a 10 episode first season. It’s not yet known when TNT will begin airing them.

What do you think? Are you going to watch Major Crimes? Will you miss seeing Reynolds with the rest of the cast?

I didn’t like Major Crimes when I started watching it, but got to where I really did. It’s a matter of getting used to an entirely different style. I hope the show will be around for a long time.

The Closer was the best show, and Kyra Sedgewick and Corey Reynolds made it a great show along with the rest of the cast, they were all really good. Will they ever bring back Kyra and Corey in a spin off from Major Crimes?

Ii would like to see Sgt. Gabriel (Corey Reynolds) on Major Crimes also. It seems as if something is missing without him. If nothing else, have him appear in several episodes. I BELIEVE IT WILL HELP THE SHOW.

Never liked Raydor’s character and she doesn’t deserve to reap the popularity of The Closer. Will not watch new series.

I am sorry to see both ofthem go but would hope that Sgt. Gabriel would find his way back to major crimes. Even if it is a quest spot.

I like the new show, miss Brenda Lee. I can’t wait to see Corey Reynolds again in another show. He is too talented to disappear.

We watched the first episode of Major Crimes without Brendan and David and it seemed like they were all trying to hard. It was awkward to say the least. I hope we do see Corey Reynolds on another show sometime soon. He is wonderful and very handsome to boot.
