The Finder: Going on Hiatus, Cancelled?

Finder canceled hiatusThis evening, FOX released some new changes to their schedule that will take effect in the next couple weeks. One of the changes involves The Finder leaving the schedule. Will it be back, get a second season, or has the show actually been cancelled?

A spin-off of Bones, The Finder debuted on January 12th to a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.5 million total viewers. It was in fourth place for the timeslot and lost 29% of the Bones lead-in audience. It was hardly a great start for the new show.

In week two, with powerhouse American Idol as a lead-in, The Finder drew a 2.2 in the demo with 6.58 million. While that was a nice improvement over the first week’s numbers, the show actually lost a whopping 61% of the lead-in’s demo.

In week three, The Finder rose to a 2.8 in the demo and 8.44 million, losing 49% of the lead-in’s demo. For the last three weeks, The Finder’s ratings have dropped lower each week. Last Thursday’s episode hit a 2.0 with 6.18 million, losing 56% of the Idol demo.

While each show is ultimately judged on its own ratings, FOX can not be pleased that Idol is delivering a huge number of viewers and more than half of them are making a conscious decision to turn the channel. It’s become clear, especially based on the most recent numbers, that The Finder would almost certainly tank without having a big lead-in. They’ve given the series the best possible lead-in they have and it just doesn’t measure up. Touch will take over the coveted spot once Finder is gone.

The Finder is set to leave the schedule in two weeks, on March 8th. At that point, there will be five unaired episodes remaining and FOX has noted that the show will return later in the season. While that may be true, it looks highly unlikely that the network will want to invest in a second season.

But, what do you think? Should The Finder be renewed for season two or should FOX just cancel it? Why do you think more people aren’t watching?

please bring it back, one of the most enjoyable shows I have ever seen. Sorry about Michael Duncan’s death, will be sadly missed but still want it back, he will be hard to replace.

Please bring the Finder back. I love the characters they all have such great chemistry. Not to mention how smart it is. I love the setting as well. I want to have a drink at “The End of the Earth”. Please bring it back.

I also enjoyed The Finder; clever dialog. I also do not like reality shows, UGH! I cannot believe entertainment is watching people being inept at everything that is every day living. There is only so much singing competition that I can take. Please keep The Finder. Very sad about Mr. Duncan.

this was a good show. My wife and I loved it. It was terrible news about Micheal Clark Duncan. I don’t know how they could replace his character.
the show was quirky and thats what we liked. I wish it could come back. Hate to leave the characters where they were at the end.

The Finder is a fantastic show with great actors, so sorry for the loss of Michael Clark Duncan, but it will only be fair to air the shows he is still in!! I agree to watch no reality shows and concentrate on shows like “The finder” that offers a variety of feelings. It is not just a mystery, it is fun and interesting and should hold firm! We need shows like this that we can use our imagination to help solve the “questions” The main actor is wonderful!

This was a wonderful, entertaining show. Cancelling it was second only to the tragic news of Michael Clark Duncan’s death. I’d still like to see it make a comeback, although Michael would be so very hard to replace.

Please renew the show. It was soooo much better than others out there. So many stupid and insulting reality shows should be canceled and aren’t. Please put back in schedule.

EVERY SERIES SHOW THAT IS/HAS BEEN CANCELLED IS DUE TO REALITY T.V. not everyone likes it. I use a DVR and every REALITY SHOW RUNS OVER THIER TIME!! CAUSING REGULAR T.V. SHOWS TO HAVE BAD RATINGS THEY DON’T HAVE A CHANCE IF RUNNING AFTER A REALITY SHOW. HMM LIKE COLD CASE/WITHOUT A TRACE/ AND NOW CSI MIAMI. ALL FOLLOWED BIG BROTHER, ETC…THAT TOOK OVER HALF AN HOUR OF ANOTHER SERIES TIME SLOT!!!

You leave on shows that are vapid and give me nothing close to entertainment value (American Idol, How I Met Your Mother, The Simpsons, Futurama, American Dad, to name a few), but when there’s a show that I can enjoy like The Finder, you take it off the air. The arguments alone are worth keeping the show – who is more of a villain, Al Queda or the Designated Hitter? The picture of Walter walking through rocks while in 5 inch stiletto heels was hysterical. I would have been in traction, had I tried that, myself. PLEASE BRING IT BACK !!!!!!!
